You have to download the definitions in Add-On link.

cCurl support is in the 2.5 version :)

Just out of curiosity does this have an impact on performance? I'm on shared hosting and I don't want to use too many resources.

Not really. One of the main ideas of the modification is it uses less then umpteen BBCodes for various media. Unless your hosting the media yourself, your not going to be using anything but the source's bandwidth, which their offering up for use anyway.

Thanks Jedi.

Installed.

What about if you have it set to extract destination data?

That would increase load slightly when you edit or create a new post that contains one or more matching media links. However it really only impacts during those points.

The best thing to do for speed is to add only the definitions you need and enable file caching.

HTHs!

How would I go about creating a tag for plain' old MP3 playing? eg: if I wanted to link www.thanks-geek.com/yourule.mp3.

Cheers sir, another great mod from you. :)

webuser99 09-29-2008 04:29 PM

Where can I see a full list of supported websites? It'd be cool if there was a way to auto play audip files or something with some media player.. like [media]abc.com/1.mp3[/media]

or [media]abc.com/2.swf[/media]

Let me know!

dieselpowered 09-29-2008 05:51 PM

Just upgraded and setup the permissions to not show the videos to a the unregistered group...do I need to rebuild anything, cause when I log out, I can still see the videos?

dieselpowered 09-29-2008 06:07 PM

Looks like you have to rebuilt the post information.

This is actually not working how I hoped...is there a way to make it so that instead of members who cannot view the video being shown a link to it, they get a notice that there is an embedded video and they must register to see it?

I know that they do not have to be registered to view on youtube or the others, however, we would like them to atleast be tempted to register on our site in order to view the video.

You must be under the impression that I am even half as smart as you when it comes to coding...here is what I can do. Can you tell me what template and what change I would have to make and then I will do that :)

Thanks my friend, another great mod from you as always!

Like The Geek said, see my thread in the Add-On. :D You won't need any BBCode and you can customize the MP3 player.

What template would I change so that if a member does not have permission to view a video would be shown a link to register and maybe some text that shows, Embedded video, please register to view.

Thanks, I really need it to function this way.

sweeps78 09-30-2008 07:54 PM

I'm looking to make the switch from using Goldbrick Audio/Video Media System to AME. By the sounds of it, it is a fairly easy switch? I'm currently using a media BBCode tag with Goldbrick, so I would just have to deactivate Goldbrick, activate AME and run some sort of conversion?

One last question, how stable is AME 2.5 RC1 running on vb 3.7.3?

Try the ame_output template. Change:

<a href="$ameinfo[url]" title="$ameinfo[title]" target="_blank">$ameinfo[title]</a>

To something like:

You must be registered to view this damnit.

:D

Should be easy I guess. Uninstall GB, install ame, then check out AME's conversion tool which can convert non ame media tags into URL tags. You can the run AMEs rebuild tool to rebuild URL tags into ame tags. Sounds long winded, but its not.

Im running 2.5 RC1 on 3.7.3

HTHs!

dieselpowered 09-30-2008 11:46 PM

I receive a huge dB error when installing on a fresh vb 3.7.3 PL1 with a fresh copy of AME 2.5.

I would post it but the error is HUGE!

Nadeemjp 10-01-2008 01:09 AM

wonderful add on i was looking for this for quite sometime nwo.
one question though, i have like 11 styles. do i need to modify them all or would this automatically modify them?

plus, in future which ever style i install, would this automatically copy itself into those or do i ned some manual maneouvering?

Hi,

Thanks for this great mod, but I am having problem with the YouTube video title.
When I use a video with Chinese title, there title becomes "?".
Please check the attached image. The original link for the video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUL2Y0CeYGc

Can you fix this?
BTW, I am use v2.0.2

MonkYZ 10-01-2008 01:41 AM

Is it somehow possible for unregistered/guests to see some kind of table/picture instead of the video with a message like "Please register on forum to be able to see the movies" ?

I think this would also increase registration rate. Plus, it would be something instead of nothing for guests (if permissions set to not allowed for guests).

Thank you in advance !

Yes I did this, it requires them to register in order to view embedded videos.

2.5 is the only one that uses templates, but they're added automatically. So, unless you plan on doing some customizations to the containers, you'd not be editing anything.

dieselpowered 10-01-2008 05:20 AM

Question, it appears that in order to make previous post that include AME within them to follow the new rules, you need to edit the post and then save it again...is there a more automated way to do this so that all the posts with AME info in it follow the new rules (like who can view?)

dieselpowered 10-01-2008 06:15 AM

Anyone having a problem embedding google videos? Mine was working and after upgrading to 2.5 no longer works for google videos...

All I get is a small box with nothing in it, but the info extracts and shows in the header of the box?

Thanks!

Hey Tides, I don't really ahve a solution for this right now. I managed to sort out most character encoding issues, but admit that I struggled to get chineese to work correctly. This is simply down to my lack of understanding character sets. Maybe someone with some more experience in this arena can help me out :)

IN the meantime, you can turn off extracting titles, or simply remove it from the template :)

Thats correct, as per all the info written about the system, the conversion doesnt happen 'real time' but rather when post data is saved. This minimises the footprint of AME dramatically. If you had 150 definitions searching each post that was displayed would noticably slow down your forums.

There is a rebuild tool in the admincp->ame cp->tools menu for rebuilding old URLs. I suggest you check that out (just make sure that you read about the tool and understand it first)

hmmm... looks like google just changed thier url format. /sigh

Scratch that, they have changed their whole system. Looks like Google now links to original content via a frame. This will make it very hard (if not impossible) to translate google video links to embeded media as we will never be able to tell what source Google is linking to.

Yeah, Google Video has decided to be another one of these endless video harvesting site, just like LongIslandOnline. I don't quite get the point of that. But in any case, Google Video will only work for Google hosted video.

@xtremeoff-road: When you try to embed the URL for a YouTube video you found on Google Video, you have to use the YouTube permalink. Not the Google link. That's just one of the downsides to sites that decide they want to be harvesters of everyone else's videos. I'm just going to have to go through all these new sites their adding and see if I can make a working definition for each of them.

although i have uploaded the image to image/misc folder of the respective styles but i am not seeing the amazon icon.

rest of the procedure was followed as told.

am i missing something?

The Geek 10-01-2008 01:04 PM

Is there a broken image?

sweeps78 10-01-2008 01:30 PM

I'm trying to convert all my media tags to ame tags, but can't seem to get it working correctly. First off, I just went back a week for safety reasons.

I went to Tools->Convert Codes and entered "media" (no quotes or brackets) into the Codes box. Then, in the Conversions box, I entered "\1" (again, no quotes or brackets). This converted all of the media tags to url tags.

I didn't know what to do at this point, because I thought this would have converted my media tags to the ame tags that AME uses... So, I tried to Rebuild my old posts and had the following settings:

Remove [ame] codes => no
Ignore previous => yes
Test mode => no
Verbose => no
How far to go back => 1 week
Per page => 100
Seconds per page => 10

First of all, there's some sort of nasty bug with this, because after I clicked Save, there were 27 pages that the system tried going through, 24 of which were past 1 week.

That aside, I didn't see any of the url tagged posts get converted to ame tags.

What am I doing wrong??

The Geek 10-01-2008 01:34 PM

The convert tools change media tags to URL ones, not AME tags. Once you 'un-media' them, you can rebuild as you mentioned.

What version are you using?

Try running in test mode and verbose so you can see the changes it is trying to make.

Also remember to click install if you have installed :D

sweeps78 10-01-2008 02:19 PM

The version I'm running is 2.5 RC 1.

Quote:

Cool, that's what I thought:)

Quote:

That's just it. When I try to run the Rebuild, it says there is 29 pages to go through, but only 4 of them are within the week that I specified.

I did perform a little test of my own. I created a new post in a hidden forum. This post contained 1) A youtube video using the media tag 2) A youtube link with the ame tag.

When I ran the Rebuild, the post showed up with the message:

Quote:

post 21127: Ignored (already contains ame)

Hostboard 10-01-2008 02:35 PM

Better support, more media coverage I am a convert from "the other one" :D

Thank you!

The Geek 10-01-2008 02:48 PM

Sweep - it will have ignored it because you posted it while AME was active. Since the ignore previous option was set to yes, it wont try to reprocess those that it knows have been 'amefied' ;)

Sounds to me that the only hiccup here is the time restraint. Everything else should be cool ye?
