No, that's not possible with vB's bbcode manager... It would require additional hacking.

Sorry for all the questions. I have an issue that you may have already addressed, but I don't know that it has been addressed.

After creating text within the SHOWTOGROUPS tag, anyone without SHOWTOGROUPS access cannot view the information by looking at the post directly.

HOWEVER, if they were to go to a User's public profile and look at that User's posts, the resultant is that they can see the SHOWTOGROUPS info as well.

Is this a known item? If so, is there a fix for it?

i was woundering if it was possible instead of using the bbcode to hide stuff is there anyway i would add another box to the newthread template so when content is put in it it is hidden until a reply is made.

I just checked it and Yes, with vb3.6.5 and vS-Hide Hack Resurrection ver. 2.80 the information hidden by SHOWTOGROUPS is revealed during a show-user's-posts search in msg. preview if that post is short enough to fit the hidden content in that preview.

When unauthorized user clicks on the post that preview reveals the hidden content (or a part of it) the full post appears and the protected content appears hidden (as it should)

I will update to v.2.8.1 and see if that issue repeats.

Just updated to v.2.81 and the issue appears to be fixed - in post preview now it shows:

".:: Hidden Block (for usergroups: N/A :: 0 - Invalid Usergroup(s) Specified) ::."

as it should for unauthorized user-groups.

For authorized users is reveals hidden content.

When you do the update, is it just installing the product? Are there code changes in addition to what was done previously?

The updates required have been posted in this thread on every update - please find and read through those posts. No, it does not only work in Expanded Edition, but you do have to make sure that you do all file modifications correctly. Thanks.

Ok, here is a better description of the issue. If the user in question is not in the groups in the [SHOWTOGROUPS=xxx], they can see part of the hidden post if they do the following:

1. Look at a user's public profile who can see the post

2. Click on "Find all posts by user"

When the results of this are displayed a little preview of the post is displayed, and it is here in this preview that you can see part of the hidden post.

I have gone through the update and carefully done every single change exactly as dictated in the instructions, but this is still an issue for me. I am wondering if there is a place in the code of vB that is not part of the changes here, or if am over-looking something.

The correct syntax is:
[HIDE=10]"Pass:Maidenrulz"[/HIDE]

Where 10 is posts required.

hi m8 was wondering is it possible to put a box underneath the message box and everything in this box is automaticly parsed with [HIDE] [/HIDE] tags would that be an easy alteration. and is it also possible to make it so a user has to reply to see the hidden content like if you were doing a riddle they could post there answer and see the real answer afterwards

just like admins can view with out any permissions requirement, is it possible to do the same for some additional usergroups. i.e the admin can view even he doesn't have the reqd post count rite, similarly can we add additional usergroups ??
