Thanks for an excellent hack, I'm starting to get rid of the "first-timer" problems here.

However, there's a little problem that I can't figure out:

When I first installed vbHome, the articles and latest discussions showed up fine, but nothing under Recent Articles. I tried to figure it out, but with no luck. So I disabled it.

After running vbHome for some days, this started to irritateme a bit, I really would like to have the recent articels showing up. So I enabled it again. Then my first article suddenly showed up, but not my 4 or 5 articles posted after that.

I've run the article indexer from vbhlinstall.php, but that didn't help.

I would also like to add a Recent articles showing only threads from a spesific forum(s), is there a hack for this around?

Any ideas, anyone?

Sorry, I am new comer, too long a list to go through, can someone let me know the download link of vBHome? Thanks.

Just found it on the first page.

mariannet 11-26-2003 12:23 PM

UPS!
Love this hack and have been using it for a while. Now my kids want christmas and I have made a style for this. I want this style to be standard on the homepage but can't remember how to specify this?

MindTrix 11-26-2003 12:42 PM

I think its in this portal, or the other one i get confused. If i am right it will be in your admin control panel underneath vBulletin options. Scroll down to the bottom where the FRONT PAGE part is and i think its one of the last options.

I could be thinking of the other portal though.

Hi,

Apoligies for this "stupid" question, but how do I change the colours of the scroll bars?

I have edited the "home_headinclude" template to put the code that I require that I believe is...

SCROLLBAR-BASE-COLOR: {categorybackcolor};
SCROLLBAR-ARROW-COLOR: {categoryfontcolor};

...however it remains the defauly gray option and does not use the new colours.

Thanks in advance.

Being that Teckwizards.com is dead, does anyone have this hack for the "article source"???

funny to see you over here too, fellow vBgarager...
yeah, you have to go back into the admin control panel and reset the option to show it. that option was reset.

zsmom 12-03-2003 05:12 AM

I just installed the hack and had to tweak a couple things to get the colors, styles & image paths working so everything is good except I have these errors at the top:

Warning: Unknown(./vbs_counter.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/xxxxxx/public_html/global.php(930) : eval()'d code on line 6

Warning: (null)(): Failed opening './vbs_counter.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/xxxxxx/public_html/global.php(930) : eval()'d code on line 6

Any ideas??? Thanks!

Ive been trying to figure out how to get the skin I have installed on my board to work in my home page? I know its probably a stupid question, but Im confused, can someone help?

MindTrix 12-03-2003 04:12 PM

Log into your admin cp, click vbulletin options and scroll to the bottom of the page. Should be around there.

Text-ghost 12-04-2003 10:07 AM

Anyone know how I can get my birthday box back?

I had birthdays on the Portal for ages, with no proble. I noticed the other day it was gone. The templates are still there, and the $birthdaybits is still there, yet nothing appears on the portal. I tried pasting the table into the home page, but didn't work.

A weird thing: I had a look in the database and there are only 3 files for templateset id -2 (which is what the birthday code called). One was 'maxloggedin' and the other was 'onlineloc'. I don't appear to have either of these templates, but no matter. The the othe one was the 'birthdays'. However, there was not only thousands of them, but they were all pointing to the profile of this one user and all were dated the same date in Sept.

Is it possible I got hacked? If not why on earth did I end up with thousands of templates for that one user. I have deleted him (he's never posted) and deleted all those templates from the DB. But I still can't get my birthdays back on the Portal. :(

Anyone know how I can fix?

Thanx

Hi,

That won't work, the DNS for your site and the way the intenet is set up will not permit that. You will need to move you files for vbulletin into its own directory, ie. Forum/ then edit your paths and then install vbhome at root level.

DNS refreshes to root index.html and if you have a index.php (well on my servers) then it defaults to the .php extension. Some cp software for servers such as cPanel can allow redirects that are quite intricate, but not even in your case. its best to move the files.

My 2?

uh i was afraid of that. thanks for the input.

no problem

bozzy 12-08-2003 04:04 AM

Okay, I moved the forum scripts to a forum directory, and installed this hack, following the instructions to a T. I got an error when going to the vbhome index:

"Fatal error: Cannot redeclare archive_nopermission() (previously declared in /home/bozzyswo/public_html/unrulypolitics.com/global.php:378) in/home/bozzyswo/public_html/unrulypolitics.com/forum/admin/functions.php on line 2588"

Somebody tell me what the heck this means. else this hack is useless.

bozzy 12-08-2003 04:05 AM

PS-- I just love the fact that the readme file has no troubleshooting info. How dare somebody release a hack and not support it! ;-)

bozzy 12-08-2003 04:10 AM

I wish somebody else has this problem and knows what to do...

it's free, and it does work. figure it out, and stop being an asswipe. teck worked hard on this, and provided 240 pages of free support right here, and yer gunna come in here, leech his free hack, and insult him. go away now, go figure it out, or read through this thread. if it's not in here, yer prolly doing something stupid. wtf kind of noob has a directory structure with a . in the filename? (/home/bozzyswo/public_html/unrulypolitics.com/global.php)

bozzy 12-08-2003 02:11 PM

Nope, it wasn't something stupid. It was because vbHome is not compatible with vbArchive, once I removed vbArchive, it worked...but it was stupid looking and ugly, so I uninstalled it.

bozzy 12-08-2003 02:13 PM

wtf, there is nothing wrong with having a '.' in the filename, using the domain as the name keeps things ORGANIZED, [Edited due to abusive language - assassingod]

Also bozzy,

You are currently showing up as unlicensed. To be able to download hacks and/or receive support here at vBulletin.org, we ask you to please click here (vB-germany users click here) and enter your email address, to show us that you are licensed.

Thank you.

bozzy 12-08-2003 02:15 PM

*oh and I read thru this hack and no where did it say that vbArchive caused this error. I saw it in a different thread here, with only 3 replies. But sure enough, that was the problem. But its moot, because vbhome is stupid and ugly.

MindTrix 12-08-2003 04:28 PM

Please can you keep the insults down ;)

The author does supply support for this hack, but not everyone can be online every minute of the day ;)

If you have an error which you cannot find a fix for and no-longer wish to wait, simply un-install it.

I also dont see how vBhome can be classed as ugly as it runs off the style you are using.

Once again i ask you nicely to keep the insults down ;)

Cheers!

bozzy 12-08-2003 05:35 PM

FYI, I wasn't being insulting, until cablemirc called me an 'asswipe'. Take it up with him. He also didn't notice that I had a ";-)" after I said "How dare somebody release a hack and not support it!" as I was just being facetious. I'm sorry cablemirc didn't get the humor, but calling me an 'asswipe' was uncalled for.

MindTrix 12-08-2003 05:43 PM

I agree with your point, yet none the less, i didnt say the request too tone the language down was aimed at just you ;)

And also, i did notice the wink at the end of your line, i was mearly explaining too you the point of the author not always going to be here.

But you have to admit yourself, the comments on vBhome lite beeing 'stupid and ugly' was un-called for as im sure you can imagine the work and effort put into a release such as this.

Finally (bout time lol) im not trying to start an argument, more or less trying to stop one ;) So, sorry you didnt like the hack or could not get it work for you but i guess that is the gamble you take with free additions :p

dmark101 12-08-2003 07:54 PM

i want to think that removal is the opposite of installation, but is that correct to think this for this hack?

it's not being used as often as i thought it would be, so i figure it's best to go ahead and remove it. does the install page have an uninstall?

wez 12-11-2003 08:39 AM

Hi, ive done the installation as stated and i get this error:

http://www.streetrace.co.uk/vbhome.php

bare in mind that vbhome is normally index.php - but i dont want to make it the homepage yet until i get it working... would appreciate any help.

PHP Code:

<?php

I didnt paste the whole file because the only modification to the original index.php was the variables i included at the top.

wez 12-11-2003 08:46 AM

Ok i changed the path to the ROOT for the global.php - It now finds the missing function, but now im getting...

In your admin cp, click on vBulletin options, then scroll down to the bottom where the portals settings are.

Add some forum id's etc that you wish to display and save changes. See if that helps you

wez 12-11-2003 03:38 PM

thanks for the help, but ive moved over to MyVbIndex - worked 1st time on setup.

MindTrix 12-11-2003 03:40 PM

Well so did this portal :p Usualy you get that database error because you havent changed what forum ID you wish to show etc.

Oh well least you got something up and running :)

Experience 12-14-2003 12:52 PM

the select statement for the news posts is wrong, at least with vb 2.3.3

i get null values for anything pulled from the post table for that statement in there.

has anyone fixed the 'news post' select statement ?

Seby 12-16-2003 02:06 PM

Hmm, can someone help me with indexing my news in vb gamma, the script supplied with vbhome doesnt work any more. I know vbhome doesnt work for gamma but I still need to index my newsposts.
