Does anyone knows how i can bump an article to top?
Its quite urgent, thank you :)

Gio Takahashi 10-26-2003 06:57 AM

The installation was not as simple as I thought, but I blame that on the bad html coding of the navbar (we have the most nifty navbar, created by my friend) I was able to fix that. The homepage is GREAT, Teck, I love it.

I will definitely customize it to the way I want it.

I would kindly ask all add-on users to release them as vbHome add-ons here, in this forum, as new threads.
Just give credit to the author... if you did not make the add-on.
Here it is an example:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...threadid=56617

Make sure you add it in Portal software section. ;)

Cheers,
Floren.

I've successfully installed this in my site, www.russbo.com/main.html, and have redirected all links to my maindisplay ("_parent") on my initial page, which is a frames page. However, there are two parts of this that I cannot get to refer to the parent frame: the log in panel, and the search box input. When using the log in or search box parts of VB Home Lite on my initial frames page, the results pop up in that small frame, and not in the maindisplay parent frame.

Got all the other parts of it to work appropriately; I'm just stuck on these two aspects. Can anyone point me in the right direction so that I can alter the html to redirect these two results to the main display (parent frame)??

Thanks very much.

how do you make it so your forums are always in the vbhomelite section?

Once you install vbHome it will put a new link in your VBulletin Options. Inside the vbHome section in VBulletion Options you will have the ability to assign forumid's to the forums you want appearing on your homepage.

Anyway, I hope that answered your question. :)

Here is an answer I know. I have dealt with the same issue many times myself, and it's pretty much ongoing. In your vbhome software inside of:

upload/admin

you will find a file called vbhlinstall.php

Upload that file to your forums/admin directory then run that file. Inside there click the option up top for "Articles Indexer". It will verify you have vbHome on your system then update your articles. Sadly, I have to do this EVERYTIME I update my homepage.

NyCwill 10-31-2003 12:29 PM

how can I add like a stat tabling in vb home?... like top 10 poster, top 10 thread, etch.....

Anitah 10-31-2003 08:27 PM

Sorry if this was asked before.

The affiliate links don't appear on the homepage. I have them enabled and they did work before but somehow they don't appear anymore.

What do I need to check in the templates to locate the problem?

A few other questions while I'm at it. Let's see if I can explain this clearly.

1. The polls do a funny thing on the home page. At times it gives you a selector, other times it shows the results, but when it does the bar images don't appear. I changed {images] in replacements to point to the directory, but that did nothing.

2. I have made a separate forum for polls, hoping that only those would appear on the homepage, but all forum polls seem to bump the homepage polls. Is there any way to change that so that only the polls designated for the homepage appear?

3. I have a private forum, and although the forum threads do not appear, any polls in that forum do.

4. I wanted non-registered users to be able to be able to comment and see the results of the poll when they open the thread, so I set permissions to open the thread for them. Although they can see the results when they check "poll results" on the homepage, they don't appear on the thread. Is there a way to adjust that?

Well that's it I guess. Hope I've made myself clear. Maybe it will help to see it.

I was wondering how you could have the forum display at the bottom of vBHome Lite like this...

ronb 11-10-2003 04:58 PM

Can this hack be used on version 2.3.0?

Gio Takahashi 11-10-2003 05:08 PM

Mine is vB 2.3.2 and it works good, Yes it should work o.O

ronb 11-10-2003 05:10 PM

Did you follow all the steps listed in the instructions? Did you need to make any changes?

Gio Takahashi 11-10-2003 05:16 PM

yes I did follow all the steps in the instructions. I think the admin cp files had to be changed....Why what happened?

klaattu 11-10-2003 11:48 PM

Ok I have installed it ....
One problem I have is that the darn php file that gives me the full URL path to my admin folder is not in my (download archive), so I keep guessing my full url.....ence I get the failed opening requiered bal bla bla global php file

where is that darn file....

Fatal error: Failed opening required './/home/httpd/vhosts/clioclub.com.mx/httpdocs/foro/admin/config.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /home/httpd/vhosts/clioclub.com.mx/httpdocs/global.php on line 745

here is the message notice the folder is foro not forum (jn spanish....)

any hints where is the missing file?

klaattu 11-11-2003 05:11 AM

One quick question My images are not woerking and I guess my replacements URL is bad any hints?

diablito 11-11-2003 09:54 AM

I think I've fully understood the install instructions for the hack, but I've a little problem that I'm not able to solve reading this thread...I've done quiet a bit of searching, but can't find problem situations 100% similar to mine.

I have vBulletin installed in a directory "forum" in my root web directory; on my Apache web server, that will be /var/www/html/forum.

As far as I can see, vbHome must have it's index.php and global.php in the root
directory, above the forum directory. However, in the root directory I already have a index.php and a global.php, that belongs to another site I'm running - I can't just overwrite these.

Any idea how to implement vbHome under these circumstances?

TECK 11-11-2003 04:16 PM

Change the vbHL index.php and global.php to home.php and homeglobal.php
Make sure you replace the global.php references to homeglobal.php, everywhere in vbHL files.
It will solve your problems.

I haven't installed the hack yet. My main concerns is that we have to put the global.php and index.php files in the root. We're using a global.php3 file in the admin directory. There's also a global.php in there that isn't used. If i put these files in the root will they be seen.

Also in step 3 we have to change the default admin path. I'm not sure what to change it to.

Step 4 requires a replacement set. What values go in the replacement set itself and for the other 2 do i enter the values as shown.

I'm trying to understand each portion of these instructions so i don't bring the board to it's knees!

klaattu 11-11-2003 04:36 PM

Ok I got it working now, It soo Cool, Thanks Teck you are the MAN!

On a side note maybe the readme =file has the addition to the global.php file badly parsed casue that was my problem opened it in BBedit and zapped the bugs (one extra space) and Voila!! everything works cool.

MindTrix 11-11-2003 04:37 PM

Not sure about your php question, but im pretty sure it wont bring your board to its knees. I've installed the portal and it worked fine apart from a mysql question which i fixed easily. Only problem now is the styles arent showing properly on forum home inside table is showing ok, but bckground of page is still purple :p

Anyways ronb im sure you will like the portal it is brilliant. Maybe install it on a test board first so you can get used to it etc?

Can i ask where that bug is? what code has the space in it that needs to be removed?

i would like nothing better than to but we have no test board or server. What are you not clear about the php. i know i'm not always explaining things clearly. I don't want the main board to be reading the global.php in the root when it needs to read the global.php3 in the admin directory.

Also will the front page have the same skins as the main board does. I'm assuming we'll have to configure that right. Am i making sense? lol

MindTrix 11-11-2003 04:53 PM

I meant i do not understand all of this php and php3 etc because i am still learning myself (basically i dont know the difference between php and php3) so sorry i cant help you with php related questions. As for the skins, you will have an option in your admin cp after installing the portal, to either asign one skin only to the portal, OR, let multiple skins be used at once, so basically whatever skin the user has selected, the portal will be in the same layout/colors etc as the skin

oh ok. So you really didn't have much trouble installing this front page right. BTW i know how you feel. I came in late as an admin on the board and am learning as i go that's why i was afraid i was saying the wrong thing. I'm a programmer by trade but not on web design so i'm taking a crash course. More like crashing head first at times! that's why i'm asking so many questions, i'm cautious.

thanks

MindTrix 11-11-2003 05:04 PM

I pick up easy, and kind of learning ;)

Yeah the installation was a breeze! Surprisingly how easy it was actually as there was not many steps to follow.

Only problem i had as i said was a mysql error when trying to access the portal. To solve this i just changed the portal options in the admin panel to anything really, and it fixed it. Havent had any problems since.

Maybe you should download something like phptriad or phpdev5 to install a local host on your pc. That way you could test it out.

I just did. Result:

Warning: main(./homeglobal.php) [function.main]: failed to create stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/html/codforum/admin/vbhlinstall.php on line 7

Fatal error: main() [function.main]: Failed opening required './homeglobal.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /var/www/html/codforum/admin/vbhlinstall.php on line 7

This error message occurs when running http://<sitename>/admin/vbhlinstall.php in my browser.

I've gone through all the vbHL files many times and double-checked that all instances of global.php is replaced with homeglobal.php.

Just to be sure: the vbHL index.php and global.php (which I have renamed to homeindex.php and homeglobal.php) shall NOT replace the vBulletin index.php and global.php files, but recide in the main html dir above the vBulletin dir, right? I did the file copying like this:

/var/www/html: homeindex.php, homeglobal.php and backend.php
/var/www/html/forum: printarticle.php and vBulletin newthread.php
/var/www/html/forum/admin: vbhlinstall.php and vBulletin template.php
/var/www/forum/images: arrow.gif, article.gif, articleemail.gif and articleprint.gif
/var/www/html/images/polls: bar.gif, bar-bk.gif, bar-l.gif and bar-r.gif

I'm really feeling noobish here... :/

ronb 11-12-2003 03:12 PM

I'm in the process of installing this home page. i did all the steps except the last one. How do i run the vbhlinstall.php script installer?

MindTrix 11-12-2003 03:34 PM

@ ronb

You have to link to it in your browser like this

www.<yoursite>.com/forum/admin/vbhlinstall.php
