Are you addressing me in your post? If so, what do I rename to index.php? |
Drumsy, the archive script uses Apache's ForceType directive. Most of Apache servers have it installed by default.
Check with your host to make sure the module is installed. If you use another server then Apache, the script will NOT work. |
lol teck, can u help me with my problem?! o_O
|
I probably should have read more. But does this work with beta 5?
|
Okay techies.....
I have installed it. I have set all the settings in the admin control panel. Currently the main page looks like this www.thegrimescene.com and is just the main forums page. I would like to have the main vbulletin forums page be a second level page that users can go into if they click a button called "forums" at the top of the HOME page. Here's my dilema. I'm not that familiar with the templates and various files, but am willing to pullmy hair out and learn to get the look I want for the site. Heck, I'll even grow a few grey hairs. I wan tthe HOME page to look VERY much like the home page on this BBS (except with my theme and colors) in terms of layout. I'm not sure HOW to get the new installation to become the main page and the current main forums page to become the secondary one. I really need some help from someone who will understand that I'm trying, but am just not as expereinced as you folks are. I have done some minor hacking with success, but thisis the largest thing I have tried. Please help me. Beth:) |
by the way...Teck, why does the server have to be Apache? I will have to contact out ISP and see if it is....you're saying it's a requirement right?

Teck,
THANK YOU SOOOOOO much for answering me. :) Please bear with me, I have a couple more newbie type questions. Am I placing the index.php in the same location as the index, htm was,and also what is the default look for the index.php??? Will I still have my banner and my buttons, and will the page have the look I need or do I need to edit the index.php first, and copy past certain code into the .php file that is currently in the .htm file? (she wonders if she said that right.....) Beth ;) |
I'm concerend about the location of the files. I installed just ast you prescribed, but I just noticed that I don't have an index.htm i have an index.html, and it is under ADMIN. Your instructions prescribe placing index.php in the ROOT. My root is outside of the rest of the installation of VB. My installation begins at FORUMS, then goes to ADMIN on the next level in and so on.
Somehow, I also...um...seem to have an index.php in both my FORUMS and ADMIN folder. But I don't know if it is from VBulletin or VBHome. I don't want to blow up my board. Help...please...someone... :( |

the vbhome index.php 'builds' an html page from various templates in your database. Don't edit it unless you know what you are doing. It will use your forums colors, etc. utilizing whatever you have set for your forums. Do you have to go to www.yoursite.com/forums/ to get to your actual FORUM homepage? If so, you will see an index.php in the /forums/ directory. This is vbulletin's index... leave it. What do you see when you go to the root of your domain? www.yoursite.com/ Some hosts will put a generic index.html page there as a 'placeholder'. That gets deleted and replaced with index.php from vbhome. |

By the way... the index.html in your admin folder is not needed. It's only needed if your host doesn't recognize the index.php You can delete the /forums/admin/index.html , or just rename it to index.html.off or similar to ease your mind (instead of deleting). |
I'm a little confused about what you wish to accomplish.
Do you want to use VBhome as your new website, to integrate your entire site, or do you want to keep your current homepage and use Vbhome just within your forums? Most people build a site around vbhome (I think).... If you are looking to keep your existing homepage and have vbhome only associated with the forums, then you will have to make a new subdirectory and move the /forums into that subdirectory. ie... www.thegrimescene.com/ existing main page www.thegrimescene.com/contractors/ vbhome page www.thegrimescene.com/contractors/forums/ actually.... maybe you could keep /forums/where it is and just add the /contractors/... not sure. |

It used to work before, and then we upgraded to Apache2. Is there a way to check myself if it's there, since someone on my end did the upgrade? |

I have installed vbHome and everything appears to be working , with one minor exception. I cannot get the homw=e page to take on the style that I have loaded (different from the default style). I do have the default setting in vB set as the new style. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help. |
