Any possible way we can get this to work by userid? I would rather not create a new usergroup for this and IP's change often so I'm not sure if I want to use that.

Great hack though :)

Why not ?

The answer is no, because I really cannot see any reason not to use it as is. :)

Thanks Paul for all the hard work that you've put into this.

haha

Edit the usergroup setting in the ACP, miserable user options (part of vb options).

Any idea what's up w/ my problem here?

Nope, no idea.

You think it might be another hack screwing it up? FWIW, I'm running 3.5.0. I could list all my hacks if you think it would help. Also, I'm using MKPortal and the forum is viewed within the portal.

WichitaRacing 02-22-2006 01:04 AM

Bump for anyone who can help.

tokosan 02-22-2006 07:32 AM

i gotta say this is the best hack after months of using it, it is so much fun.

mad propz to da head hacker :D

YLP1 02-22-2006 09:27 PM

Excellent hack..... I could have missed it but I have version 2.03. Do I need to uninstall this version before installing the xml for version 2.04?

Thanks in advance...

Excellent hack... I gotta tell ya.. I run a community website and I do our council reviews every week.... politics has a way of bringing out the nastyness in some people.

Excellent indeed...

PS: On my wish list is the ability to add via User Ids......

Paul M 02-22-2006 10:15 PM

To upgrade from 2.03 to 2.04 just import the latest version with overwrite set to yes.

There is nothing I can suggest since I haven't a clue why you have this specific problem.

parajsa 02-23-2006 06:13 PM

Hi there Paul M,
Thank u for the amazing hack, it helped me a lot, but i had a problem, when I enter one Ip addressed like 134.11.78.899, it does not affect only this whole Ip, but the whole range of IP, which begins with 134.11.*.*, is there a way that this wont happen?

Thank u in advanced,
parajsa

Paul M 02-23-2006 06:46 PM

I can't see any way for that to happen.

Jon. 02-26-2006 05:20 PM

Awesome! Thanks!

maybe because this ip 134.11.78.899 doesnt exists? ips goes up to 255, like 255.255.255.255, so the ip you block must be at maximum 134.11.78.255, and not 899 ;)

OAndrea 03-04-2006 02:00 AM

Installed this and it doesn't work.:( It has literally no effect on the user group I set it to

Then you must have done something wrong somewhere.

Stanley Steamer 03-05-2006 06:22 PM

This is the first time I have ever tried to install a hack.
When I upload the miserableusers file from my PC to my download plug ins page I am getting this messege.

XML Error: not well-formed (invalid token) at Line 1

Rick Grunwald 03-05-2006 07:05 PM

You get that if you try to use the Themes area to install the XML (not saying you werre doing that) Try through the plugins area and let it do its own naming etc.

Anyone who knows more than I do please jump in!

Rick Grunwald 03-05-2006 07:08 PM

I also have to say THANKS for this. It is at the very least hilarious. I don't have any issues that require it but I set up a test account and let some folks try it after a normal login to verify that everything was running ok

The usual reply is a disgusted "Oh my GOD":devious:

Stanley Steamer 03-05-2006 08:15 PM

This is the first time I ever uploaded a plugin, so I am probably doing it wrong.
This is what I am doing.
Admin control panel>plug in system>download/upload plugins>browse to the file on my PC,select it> import.
then I get this messege.

XML Error: not well-formed (invalid token) at Line 1

YLP1 03-05-2006 08:21 PM

Sorry for butting on ... but since I have upgraded to ver 3_5_4, I am having similar issues with adding plugins. I have requested help from the member support area.

Right now the only way I can add plugins is to : manually add them or upload the xml file to the includes/xml folder and import from there.

In regards to the upgrade to new version... I did a complete upgrade to my live board and clean new install on my test board and both are having problems with the import of plugins.

When I find out anything knew I will post.

Stanley Steamer 03-05-2006 08:47 PM

I upgraded to 3.5.4 last week, but like I said, this is the first time I ever tried to upload a plugin so I am not sure how to do it.
I can try uploading it to my xml file and see if that works.

It's a product, not plugin - import it via the 'manage' products area

Stanley Steamer 03-05-2006 09:59 PM

I just tried that.
Manage products>add/import product>browse and selected the files from my PC> Import.
I got the same messege.

XML Error: not well-formed (invalid token) at Line 1

Should I up load the files to my xml files on my server?

Stanley Steamer 03-06-2006 12:01 AM

I up loaded the files to my server and imported them, but I am still getting the same message.

I suggest you re-download and unzip the XML file because it looks like you have corrupted it somehow.

Stanley Steamer 03-06-2006 12:21 AM

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Stanley Steamer 03-06-2006 12:28 AM

That did the trick, Thanks paul!

Stanley Steamer 03-06-2006 01:23 AM

It isn't working.
I created a test account for the miserable users group and tried it but it isn't doing anything.
Everything is installed, it's in the vbulletin options and in the products manager.
I put the user group id in the vbulletin options, but it still isn't doing anything.
It is set for global/start.
What did I miss?

Paul M 03-06-2006 01:27 AM

I don't think you missed anything, hard to be 100% sure without seeing your set-up.

Is the plugin system enabled ?

Stanley Steamer 03-06-2006 01:35 AM

Plugin manager>plugin system. It says miserable users is active.
is the user group supposed to be miserable users or miserableid? (see post 35 & 36)

Paul M 03-06-2006 01:42 AM

There is a seperate setting (in vb options) to turn the entire plugin system on/off.

The name of the group is not relevant, the setting (again in vb options) requires it's numeric usergroupid to be entered.

Stanley Steamer 03-06-2006 01:59 AM

In vbulletin options, plugin hook system. It is set to yes.
I entered the user group id, (id:17)
Should it be, miserable users (id:17) or just the number?
Everything else seems to be installed and turned on.
It isn't doing anything.
I can jump around the forum and open threads, make posts as easily as anyone else.
I know I must have missed something somewhere, but what?

I clicked on my test accounts screen name at the bottom of the page in what's going on and it said I was banned.
But I can still post and jump around the forums like a normal member.

Paul M 03-06-2006 08:43 AM

Sorry, without access to your ACP there is nothing I can tell you.

Stanley Steamer 03-06-2006 01:47 PM

I found it.
In vBulletin options where you write the groups id number, I was putting in "id:17"
I deleted "id:17" and just put in "17"
I guess it was reading the group number as id and not the number itself?

lil doggy 03-06-2006 01:58 PM

heheh - I love this hack - installed and works like a dream

many thanks

** clicks install **

Stanley Steamer 03-07-2006 03:03 PM

This hack is great!
It's annoying even when testing it with a test account!

Nathan2006 03-08-2006 02:00 PM

This is great!

Will have some fun with this lol :)

Thank you
