Correct, there were no changes in the templates/xml, only the php file :)

I think it might be a good idea to stop GET and POST shouldbox sends after a non-active period, as well as when the shoutbox is minimised. Should save some bandwidth.

It would probably save on resources, but bandwidth? Highly unlikely, it's only requesting a minimul amount of text, which on average would sum up to about 1/2kb, evern with a lot of users it would hardly make much of a difference.

But stopping requests during collapsing is a good idea :)

Looks like I worried too much then.:) The web log might be misleading:
"POST /vbshout.php HTTP/1.1" 200 13604

My web stat based on web log has bandwidth gone up a big notch. Web server load is so far so good, around 0.4 only. I changed the shout table type to "HEAP", so DB server will not be a problem.

Boofo 08-15-2005 09:59 AM

You still can't delete a specific shout with this.

Zero Tolerance 08-15-2005 10:21 AM

Ensure that when your trying to delete a "/me" shout, just enter what they typed, for example, if it said:
Quote:

*Zero Tolerance laughs*
You would put: /pruneshout laughs

I'm referring to a regular shout, not a /me shout. ;)

Duh! ;)

Try it with a smilie at the end of it. ;)

Blam Forumz 08-15-2005 02:22 PM

It works for me, I just put the smiley's shortcut (or whatever you call it!) and it prunes it, for instance

/pruneshout hello there =)

Then you must have a magic board because it doesn't work for me. I have already tried it over and over but since it works for you, I guess it must be me.

matt2cacnio 08-15-2005 03:10 PM

for some reason, the shoutbox doesnt work with Aria skin. Any suggestions of what to do?

Blam Forumz 08-15-2005 06:00 PM

Is it possible to allow people to use Smilies but Not vB code?

jesus likes pie 08-15-2005 07:07 PM

hey this kinda owns.

whitetigergrowl 08-15-2005 07:33 PM

How do I get rid of all of the duplicate smilies in the shoutbox? There are no duplicates in the database. I am running 1.6 of the shoutbox.

Gizmo5h1t3 08-15-2005 07:39 PM

updated, still working a treat on RC2

Zero Tolerance 08-15-2005 09:13 PM

Boofo - You sure you uploaded the new vbshout.php?

Blam - Uhm, i'll look into it :p

whitetigergrowl - It just randomly selects emoticons, if you have a decent amount it shouldn't display duplictayes, but if you have only a small handful it is likely it will. I'll force it to bypass this in the future so duplicate ones are not shown :)

Thank you. I've got around 60 emoticons. I've done everything from having only about 10-20, to having all of them showing. And no matter what I do, it most always displays duplicates in some capacity. Some times are much worse than others. I appreciate you fixing this. Thanks!

wolfyman 08-16-2005 02:44 AM

hey, awesome chat! I'll vote this HOTM for sure!

I'm interested in the smilies but no vb, also. OR link parsing, I don't want to promote spammers.

I'm having a problem with it in firefox, it hangs on "loading".

Are sounds a possibility? Like being able to talk into a microphone and let it broadcast?

Also... also... I forgot what else, I'll be back when i remember. :D

In firefox, press CTRL+F5, should re-load the files then and skip loading from cache.

Microphone? Hmm, i doubt that will be a feature.

wolfyman 08-16-2005 03:10 AM

hmm, ok... now it's working, but it's not reloading for me. I have to f5 or refresh to see the post, and trying to post again tells me "Posting is in progress"

I remembered my other question - how about a way to automatically turn it on and off at certain times?

That's my main wish, I can't believe it slipped my mind earlier!

Blam Forumz 08-16-2005 07:52 AM

Ok, I have spotted something, when in IE you can scroll in the shoutbox using the scrollwheel, whereas in firefox you cannot, sounds like its a firefox issue to me though

sensimilla 08-16-2005 11:33 AM

works like a charm :) thanks

loonytune15 08-16-2005 02:03 PM

seems to be working great on my test board, only problem i had was wondering how to change the options in it. Then it occurred to me that they were in the vbulleting options.

*installed*

Vizionz 08-16-2005 05:39 PM

I think it would be a riot :D

I've never seen it done, but a friend told me he was in a chatroom with sound - how does that work? (not meaning to go off-topic or anything :P)

Vizionz 08-16-2005 07:42 PM

yahoo chatrooms have that option. i not sure how they script it but a easier way to do it would be flash but as far as the microphone and people in a chat its hard to keep that under control cause you always got someone who wants to be a ass.. and will just keep whoring the mic and either saying stupid stuff or just playing music through it all day which will mean others cant talk. the only way a mic is good is with private rooms usually. and if ya want a chat with a mic check out the plugin section theres a flash chat that is hosted by them and it allows video and mic through flash https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=93539

XtremeOffroad 08-17-2005 04:16 AM

Great addition "Installed" but how would I go about changing the default color to white or something lighter?

Thanks

Vizionz 08-17-2005 08:54 AM

it should be set to default of your forum

NuclioN 08-17-2005 09:36 AM

How to alter the permissions for the /prune or /pruneshout so supermods can use this??

thecool 08-17-2005 10:59 AM

Great Shoutbox.

My question though, is does the censor work within the box? (didn't seem to recognize my sensor settings).

and can we get a better way to delete shouts within the next update.

thanks

be cool.

DeMiNe0 08-17-2005 11:11 AM

How can you make this hack show on all pages of the forum?

Not the case for me, see http://www.xtremeoffroad.net/forums/forum.php

Edit: Strange, Today it's working with white as the board.
Guess it's fine now.
Thanks

Is there a way to let unregistered people post?
And does it erase the shout msgs's after XShouts To Display. Doesn't it save it so you can click page 2 and see the rest?

I'm afraid not, no. It doesn't auto prune shouts, you can do so by using the commands shown in the main post.

lttcoder 08-17-2005 08:26 PM

Zero Tolerance, I dont want to prune it. I want to keep all the msgs stored in db. But I want also to display all the msgs. How?

Zero Tolerance 08-17-2005 08:32 PM

You can change the number of messages shown in the vbulletin options.
