No worries mate, I have the code working in full already for foreign characters. I'll PM you the link to my site so you can see (the site is not yet ready for public release -- but close). I'll get that code to you Dean C.

Zhen-Xjell 11-03-2005 12:48 PM

It appears your account doesn't permit PMs nor emails.

I've done this work for Googletap: http://googletap.com and you can see it implemented here (in phpbb and phpnuke):

http://castlecops.com/f167-Unterst?t..._Ad_Aware.html
http://castlecops.com/c42-Espa?ol.html

Actually...

One of my admins already posted the link publicly:

So here you go, the vBulletin implementation (remember, we're not "live" yet -- still setting up the logo, template, etc -- so take pity ;) ):

Paul, pop in the vB.org chat and we can chat there (if I'm around). I don't want to just go changing the character class to (.*) purely for optimization reasons.

This isn't exactly what I'm looking to do. I know how to get it working with foreign characters, I just don't know what the W3C spec is on allowing such characters as ? in URI's :)

What gave you the impression I'm using (.*)? I don't code that way.

I'm all hex on this one.

Seems to work fine for me yinyang :/

Thanks,

it works : http://studiocityforum.com/t6-any-go...-day-care.html

Maybe clear your cache/cookies?

that sort of worked. thanks for the suggestion. here's where it stands now, and can people who have this working, let me know if this is right.

on the forum home page, the forum names now come up in the URL. however, the thread titles in the URL in the last post section still show "showthreadX". however, in the forumdisplay, the thread titles show up in the url.

is that normal? if not, what else do you think i'm doing wrong?

Dean C 11-03-2005 11:50 PM

The last post URLs are not rewritten on purpose, please see previous posts for an explanation as to why :)

One more question

I use the hack "Latest Threads on Forumhome"

How can I make these URLs be rewritten as well?

Or are they and only don?t show up because of the forum link bug?

No idea, someone else will have to write that for you as I have no idea what the variable is for the threadbits for this hack. And as I've said before I have no intentions of supporting any other modification :)

i think the same logic applies here as to the Last Post on why these URLS shouldn't be rewritten. in essence, they are technically most recent Last Posts.

Not really, but it's a modification for vB. This modification is for vB, not for its modifications ;) If i went and did the rewriting for every modification, I'd have no time :)

Found another Bug!

If i want to rate the a thread with this URL:

http://www.rapmatics.de/t384-quotein-bisschen-rapquotep-free-download6-trackskinkerlitzchen.html

there will be an 403 Error!

If I open up this Thread per its real URL everything is normal.

ILTK 11-04-2005 08:48 PM

Regarding the last post and other links that will be treated as duplicate content, imo it makes more sense to remove them alltogether for guests (Spiders) with conditional statments in the templates.

That's what I have done, all links that are php versions of the pages that the hack rewrites I have removed with conditionals for guests, takes a couple hours but well worth it.

I have also removed archives and external.php because they leak the php versions to, if someone grabs your feed then other spiders can follow the links to the php versions from wherever feed is used.

Remember not all guests are spiders. The last post even serves a function to guests who don't bother to register. As the new post indicators work off a cookie/session :)

ILTK 11-04-2005 10:46 PM

Yeah I know, but I'd rather downgrade slightly for guests and not risk dupe content, I have of course tried using the forums as a guest and evaluated the changes, and unless you know vbulletin well, you'd never know what was missing, if you do it right it's very small changes overall, like missing lastpost links/lastpost.gifs, just show last post dates instead with no link, sort links on forumdisplays I just downgraded to text instead of a link etc..

And hey, more reasons for real visitors to register :)

kafi 11-05-2005 09:50 PM

I'm not going to set it up to allow foreign characters yet until I see documentation on how foreign characters are allowed in URLs.

Thanks and i hope the you add some of the VBseo feature :)

Did you read about this bug? It is not urgent for me, but if this Hack comes out from the betastate it should be fixed.

I tested rating a thread at http://de.castlecops.com/forum using this plugin (and modified to match a bit of http://googletap.com for foreign characters) with absolutely no issues. I can also merge threads with no issues either. I can't seem to replicate the bugs.

vau7 11-07-2005 03:29 AM

Rating at all is not a problem, just in a thread with a URL like this which has beeng generated in this case. I think there was an Problem because the user has used Quotes for the Title.

You can use the new URLs to move particular postings? I cant believe that.

what do you mean you can't beleve that? Moving posts/threads works fine, what are you talking about?

adventideas 11-07-2005 06:43 PM

This plugin is working like a charm on our board, but the only problem i'm having with it is that it breaks up pages after 10 posts.

Anybody else experienced this or know how to fix it? I tried to double the post #s from inside the admin, to see if it would just even it out but no matter how many posts I set it to display before splitting the page, it keeps showing only 10 posts inside a thread and then splits the page.

Thanks everyone.

Glad i'm not the only one then :)

It's a very good plugin. Splitting the pages after 10 posts is the only problem i'm having with it.

And it works if you put the rewritten URL in the field for the thread the Posting has to be merged?

Bump for an answer :)

Dean C 11-08-2005 07:59 AM

The perpage setting is hardcoded in the .htaccess file. This cannot be avoided unfortunately due to the way vB outputs its pagenav URLs, so if you want to change it find where it says pp=10 in the .htaccess file and change the 10 to the value you want :)

But I do not think that url needs foreign chracters. At least in my language we have same letters as english, but we use additional punctuation marks to differ some letters from each other (latin2),

than I only need to translate for url rewrite this letters into normal letter without punctuation symbol. For example ?=a ?=i ?=e

pls .-)

Well that is something different :) But what use is it having an english character set in your URLs when your site is foreign? Your search engine users will be searching in google, yahoo or msn etc using foreign characters and your URLs will not have these characters so the benefit is lost.

adventideas 11-09-2005 07:30 PM

Hey Dean C, is there a way to remove the hardcoded post # from the htaccess, or is that a must, in order to make this plugin work?

mikehawk 11-09-2005 08:07 PM

Is there anyway to make this work for individual threads?

The post# is not hardcoded anywhere
