Installed thanks. bitly gave errors, switched to tinyurl...all good

subvertbeats 09-20-2010 08:13 AM

Is this mod able to create a new tweet to a single twitter account for every thread posted in a given forum, regardless of who posts it?

I have a news forum that members can upload news to, and would like all of the posts in that forum to be tweeted.

Thanks...

and another thing I find interesting is they are random spiders, normally they are like one spider or another, but these are
90% random/different spiders....

Yep, they come across form the link on twitter. I get huge floods of spiders from Twitter all the time.

I have the same issue here... I know it worked once at the beginning, but now it goes to bit.ly then no tweets (even after checking back twitter after a while).

Where can we check the error log?

Can someone please help me figure out what to put for these values?

Twitter Access Token Secret
I do not see these listed with that name on the twitter app info. There are access URLs, but when I used those it did not work.

Thanks.

nevermind - I have looked and looked on that page, and just as I posted that I saw the My Access Token button on the right and found the info. :o

E.T. 09-23-2010 06:54 PM

Yesterday it stopped working with bitly choosen and get the following error

Code:

socket error: 111 on line 181 in /home/vhosts/dbf4all.eu/httpdocs/forum/includes/bitly.php
#0 /home/vhosts/dbf4all.eu/httpdocs/forum/includes/bitly.php(382): Bitly->doCall('shorten', Array)
#1 /home/vhosts/dbf4all.eu/httpdocs/forum/newthread.php(262) : eval()'d code(16): Bitly->shorten('http://www.dbf4...')
#2 /home/vhosts/dbf4all.eu/httpdocs/forum/newthread.php(262): eval()
#3 {main}

With TinyUrl it is working and also with is.gd, the forum tweets again, but there are no links at all, just the topic title.....

Is there something wrong with my hosting service ?

I don't know, but whenever something stops working suddenly like that and you haven't made any changes, I would suspect server changes. It can't hurt to ask. The sooner the better before they forget what they did.

E.T. 09-23-2010 08:28 PM

good idea, I'll contact them ;)

thanks Videx

Today it sent 2 tweets for the 3 new threads today, without me changing anything anywhere... this is weird.

wow wow wow

Thanks for adding tli.tl bro :)

New version is working great. I have not found yet in the code where to append the twitter post with a custom hash tag, but I will post here when I do..

On the old version each post would have a #FB at the end so my facebook API would pick it up and post it.. I'll figure it out soon I hope.

onehost 09-24-2010 10:04 PM

Enjoy while it lasts...I have only had this setup a few days...got this today:

This is a notice that your OAuth token for SEO Scripts has
been suspended from interacting with the Twitter API

Maybe someone can visit my twitter page and let
me know why they may have suspended my account.

http://twitter.com/seoscripts/

They did not even say why, they just shut me off.

Custom hash tags will be in the next version. There will be a custom field you will be able to enter as many #tags as you like when you create a new thread in a vBulletin 2 Twitter enabled forum, and will only appear in the tweet and not in the thread title. This will not be available for replies or quick replies, only new threads.

There will also be the following options:
  • Enable vBulletin 2 Twitter in all forums
  • Enable vBulletin 2 Twitter in selected forums
  • Disable vBulletin 2 Twitter in selected forums

I will also be removing the tli.tl url shortening service, as it now requires an api key to function, so it is not currently working in v4.0.004. I have spoken to the guys over at tli.tl and they will not budge on removing the api key requirement for reasons I totally understand.

But, that being said I will be adding the following url shortening services that do not require an api key:
  • CanURL
  • Metamark

So, you will now have a choice of five different url shortening services (or choose not shorten at all).

I will also note that I will not be adding any functionality to tweet RSS feeds, tweet CMS articles or tweet Blogs, and that is unlikely to ever change.

As always this will be released to my paid subscribers at Wolfshead Solutions a month before releasing it here unsupported, so you can expect a release here towards the end of October 2010.

No it is not, and is not very likely to be added to the hack.

Videx 09-30-2010 10:09 AM

Perhaps not in this particular mod. But since there's already an RSS feed with this information going out, it doesn't seem too far-fetched that someone couldn't figure out a way to safely truncate that and pass it on to Twitter.

If you don't have a busy forum you can always use Twitterfeed, which does this. We use it for publishing to Facebook:

Is there a reason that this mod doesn't have a way to automatically add a tweet for a new article through the CMS?

After investigation together with my hosting service we cannot find anything wrong, my forum is allowed to do the tweets on Twitter, but none of the shortening services is working.

Uninstalled the mod, reset all the access codes, install the mod again, but still the same issue.

So for the moment there are just tweets from the forum but without any link to the posting itself.

We have no idea how to resolve this.

EconomicVoice 10-02-2010 12:40 PM

I've reverted to Twitterfeed and DLVR.IT.

Because I have chosen not to add support for vBCMS Articles, Blogs as they can be set to publish at a later date (so are not live) and RSS are definitely not live and this hack only tweets live threads/posts to twitter and that will not change.

That's interesting, and something I've often wondered. Just what is the delay with RSS?

First I've heard of DLVR.IT; looks interesting. They check every 15 minutes (Twitterfeed is only every 30 minutes at best). What is not clear is the maximum limit, but it too seems to be better than Twitterfeed but I wonder if anyone knows what the limit actually is?

E.T. 10-02-2010 09:31 PM

Unfortunally this is not working on my forum, so I'd to uninstalled this mod.

Revert to twitterfeed

ceho 10-03-2010 12:46 PM

Unfortunately it wasn't working for me on vB 4.0.7, it caused malfunctions e.g. "Mark This Forum Read" was not working anymore. Settings were all as described above, but as there is no support I had no other chance but to uninstall it :-(. Sad, I still think it should be a very nice mod!

250 a day, but it can be made real time with something called PUSH (haven't tried it though).

Videx 10-03-2010 03:17 PM

The only reference I found to limits was from a post 6 months ago that said there were no limits. A lack of limits might explain the lack of reference to them.

PuSH (http://pubsubhubub.com/) looks like a nice solution for instant feeds. Mostly mumbo-jumbo to me, but might be a great idea for a mod.

THANKS , THIS PRODUCT IS SUPER

BUT UNFORTUNATELY , IT MAKES THE NEW POSTS AND REPLIES KINDA A SLOW

IF YOU MAKE IT IN Scheduled Tasks , IT WILL BE THE BEST EVER

Budget101 10-12-2010 12:31 PM

Moderated posts/threads are shown immediately in twitter- how can we prevent this? Also- all twitter posts are instant, any way to set a 1 or 2 hour delay?

Just noticed that tweets aren't generated by posts made via Tapatalk.

Wizardjv 10-27-2010 02:30 AM

Any news on the update.. I have been looking forward to it for some time now :)

Mosh 10-27-2010 04:39 AM

Hi all,

This hack has now been updated to v4.0.5.

This update adds the additional new features:
  • AdminCP Options to include/exclude forums
  • Hashtags for new threads in twitter enabled forums
This version will be released unsupported here at vBulletin.org on Saturday 27th November 2010.

Regards,

Mosh Shigdar, Wolfshead Solutions.

Videx 10-29-2010 12:14 AM

I can't figure out where to download the update. I paid $11 for the last one. Do I have to pay $5 to download this one? Or wait a month?

Your subscription expired and will need to be renewed.... any other questions in regards to this will need to be asked at Wolfshead Solutions (I will not answer them here as I will likely receive an infraction or ban for advertising commercial services, I have been warned).

dholt 11-14-2010 10:28 PM

I was just wondering if there is a edit that says when it posts to twitter "You Seen This" Description of post then the Link

It posts "Description of post then the Link"

I would like a "You seen this" added before "Description of post then Link"

As I don't want to start all new threads with "you seen this"

Thanks any help will be welcomed.

dholt 11-15-2010 01:36 AM

Has anyone had a Problem tweeting logged into twitter after the auto twitter has posted from one of your forums.

I Got a Message from tweeter that there was a problem with my tweet, so I removed the thread that I tested the auto tweet in, deleted the post to twitter and all was well again.

Not sure if anyone experienced this or maybe just glitch on twitter side.
