I was done a long time ago. People just jumped in to a post that was never directed towards them.

Kym

Well my post WAS specific to this mod. It had an exploit and the creator never made a post about it.

On the other hands, I see that emails are sent out, IF and WHEN someone puts the mod into the quarantine section. But that took awhile in the mean time people's websites were taken offline.

Anyways I am done with this discussion. No point in taking this thread apart with all these replies.

Some people will agree and some won't and heck some won't understand at all.

It's all fine by me.

I just hope everyone that got hacked has found a way to recover their forums again. :(

The Realist 05-24-2011 04:12 PM

I didnt and lost a 4 year old forum because of it :(

I 100% agree with this statement.

PiroX 05-24-2011 07:12 PM

Please add Phrase support. If it is somehow possible to use $vbphrase['name'] instead of text, please tell me. I can create phrases by myself but i need to let them call instead of the text

this would be very nice and a good improvement for multilanguage boards

When sharing a thread to Facebook and the Advanced Forum Rules plugin is enabled the thread title doesn't get picked up by the Facebook Spider. Instead the Forum Title is sent.

i.e If I share a thread with title : Test Post 1 found on Test forum to Facebook.

On facebook it reads :

X Shared Link
Test Forum
www.testforum.com/thread/test-post-1

When it should actually read :

X Shared Link
Test post 1
www.testforum.com/thread/test-post-1

Interestingly enough the blog posts are not affected and display the titles fine.

The spider displays and unknown location in WOL so I take it its been redirected to the Accept Rules page? Or something of the sort.

The workaround is to uncheck the Users Must Accept Rules to : View Forums | View Threads or set the unregistered group in the excluded list it seems to work.

And those errors are????

The dev is going to need more information in order to know what he is supposed to look for. How do we know this isn't a problem with only your site?

Hi Valter,

this is a really fine and needed mod and comes in very handy. Especially the display of the time and date, a user has accepted the rules - but may I have a suggestion?

I had to set up a whole set of rules. In particular we are talking about 7 different rules for 7 different scenarios. Let me put it in an example so the problem gets clearer: If user A accepts rule 1 but not rules 2 to 7 noone could tell which rule user A has accepted. Could be everything from rule 1 to 7. Means, he could have accepted a minor one (#3) while he disregards #1/general rules.

I would be glad you could do some changes to that so admins and mods could see, which rules a user accepted and when, and which one he disregards until now. Guess the best place to display that would be the memberprofile page, where you already placed the display of rules accepted.

What do you think about that? Any chance?

Probably better off dping a full backup if you use Cpanel. That way you ALSO backup the files instead of just the database. Since many mods here use extra files. If you are missing them and can't remember which ones you need.

Then having a full backup is much better. And with server speeds these days it takes less than 2-3 mins.

Personally I rsync off from my dedicated server to a cloud server for all my files, which also pulls my db backups that are run daily :p

I just can't imagine. So if user A doesn't accept that he can't troll, he's allowed to troll? Can we get a link to these 7 sets of rules?

Khriz 05-27-2011 01:37 PM

thanks

Lynne 05-27-2011 02:43 PM

You should be modifying phrases in the admincp, not in the xml file.

I think the best way is to use cPanel to setup a daily backup with weekly and monthly retentions and install MySQLDumper and set that up to make automatic backups. If your forum is not THAT large, you can set MySQLDumper to run every two hours or so. You can even set it up to transfer the backups to another servers of yours using FTP or just randomly download the latest backup every week or so just in case your server's HDD fails.

If you don't know how to setup cPanel/WHM cron backups... simply ask your host and I'm pretty sure they'll do it for you ;)

Is there any way to make this mod work for users using Opera Mini?
some of my users can't post anymore as they are using Opera mini and they are unable to accept the rules.

Hi,

Has this issue been resolved?

My customers using opera have to flip to IE (/shudder) to accept the rules, on opera the button is just greyed out.

Thanks

Hi Valter,

for some reason we are experiencing a weired behaviour, may be a bug.

Users who have already accepted the rules reported back, they couldn´t send PMs. All they see is the rules pages with the timed counter. Even when they accept the rules again, with the next PM they run into a loop which brings them back to the rules page over and over again.
It happens when sending a PM from the user menue inside a post, replying to a PM etc. It doesn´t, when a user is sending a PM from inside his own profile.
(Anyone else experiencing that?)

Settings were set, that PMs can only be send by users who accepted the rules before. I disabled that now temporarly.

Could you be so kind to have a look inside that issue and come up with a fix for that?

steviewonder44 06-12-2011 10:49 PM

What does it mean when a member who logs on to my forum several times a day yet have not accepted forum rules and they have to accept them to enter any forums or threads?

Maybe a bot?

Videx 06-12-2011 11:20 PM

Could be. We've seen a lot of those. Kinda scary that they can get past my clever Q&A but can't figure out how to accept the rules.

Alfa1 06-12-2011 11:27 PM

AFR uses a javascript function that bots tend to have problems with.

Has this Mod got still a problem with hackers being able to inject into lockout admins as this happened to me again today, and looking for what did it, but at this stage unable to find out why. Though only been looking for the past hour. I thought I would post this in case others strike the same problem as I have. I had to use tools.php to allow me access to my admincp which I had in fact changed the name of, and in the config.php file as well.

There are no "known" current issues with this modification, yes previously however it was patched. If however you do determine this was the cause and have proof simply report the modification post and include the information at hand so we can review otherwise it could be another method being used on your site perhaps?

Can someone help me?

I am having trouble creating a post/thread via vbulletin mobile android app that I bought as a suite. I noticed the plugin is causing the problem.

Can you help to teach me how to add the code below?

Code:

if (!VB_API)
                {
insert plugin code here
}

But how to insert and where?

BayLee2 08-06-2011 09:34 PM

login to your admincp

Settings --> VSa - Advanced Forum Rules --> "Forum Rules" text color (blank to use style's default) edit the box and save. not sure on making it bold might have to edit a phrase.

Sin

BayLee2 08-06-2011 09:55 PM

OMG I feel dumb. Too simple, LOL~!!! Musta overlooked that...

Drache 08-28-2011 08:35 AM

nvm fixed. thanks for the hack. it's great.

imported_ahw 09-07-2011 07:00 AM

I have strange problem with this hack.
I have tried it once and it worked. After that I uninstalled it. then I reinstalled it.
Now, Automatically add "Forum Rules" to Navbar is set to YES but it doesn't appear.
also after applying the rules it didn't work..

Detox550 09-08-2011 10:18 PM

Could someone add the rules into paid subscriptions page. So it's like a ToS before moving on to buy it.

SweDev 09-13-2011 10:10 AM

Thank's Valter!
Installed in 5 minutes, no problems. Seems to be working ok. But real test in a few days when we open the new forum...

Tip: Took me a while to understand how easy it actually works for editing and adding new rules. Maybe you should add a little small "walk through" in your description?

knikio 09-17-2011 12:10 PM

can i make the rules windows to show only when the members in my forum are downloads a files ?
(sorry on my bad english)
