I see your comments just fine. Why would you think they would delete your comments and leave the others?

If you want to use multiple fourms for CMS comments. This is a fairly none obvious use case, but probably a popular one.
Excactly what i have waited for!!! THANKS SO MUCH !!!!!

swiftor 10-08-2010 06:40 PM

I never quite got that... can anyone give an example scenario in which you'd want to use multiple forums for CMS comments?

I've not noticed any be deleted

That's the Vbulletin bug tracker. But it's not your fault - he should have included a link or two to illustrate his point. As soon as I read his message I wanted to go look and see if I had voted, but without a link I wasn't going to go track it down myself.
The link is in the first post at the bottom :)

Well, it depends on your situation - if you really want to use the vb CMS in a similar way to vbAdvanced; for example you may just want to highlight the best threads from each of your current forums a featured posts section; thus you want comment threads in different forums.

This mod has been planned to be put into vbulletin for version 4.2 thanks to everyone who voted.

Linkage please? That's almost like claiming it will be added in vb5.

Congrats Carnage-! :)

> > Promotion of post to article splits discussion. New thread is started. No way of merging threads (a lot of errors occur then).
> > Having discussions split is issue in the roots of forum software. Promoted post splits discussion. It needs double admin attention, it breaks thread, users start to talk about same things in two places. Even commenting capabilities of cms article are limited. So it is wrong.
> > Article comments should be linked with promoted post. No new thread started, if article is promoted post. Article comments should be displayed under article and as forum thread.

Congrats on perhaps the most useful functional plugin programmed. I can't believe this wasn't as standard from 4.0.0.

Robbed 10-29-2010 03:42 AM

Does it work with 4.08? If we do use it will we have problems when vb includes it in 4.2

mmacrypt 10-29-2010 04:01 AM

I just upgraded to 0.8 and it's working fine for me for what that's worth.

Juggernaut 10-29-2010 04:07 AM

I am using it with 4.0.8 :D

thunderclap82 11-17-2010 06:50 PM

I'm having an interesting problem. When we post a regular Article it lists the article twice in the What's New? listing. Once with Article: in front of it, and a second time without that. Yet both posts point to the CMS article.

Any idea why this is happening?

I should add: I updated to 4.0.8 but it broke my theme, so I downgraded back to 4.0.7.

Carnage 11-18-2010 07:59 PM

it's possible that the comments thread in the comments forum is coming up and the article itself is coming up. I don't think that this mod is specifically responsible: check the settings for your default comments forum.

carrlos 11-21-2010 11:46 PM

Carnage-, is it me or are all threads promoted to articles absent from the "New Forum Posts" and "Forum Threads" sidebar blocks when using this mod? And subsequent comments? Solution?

Carnage 11-28-2010 02:38 PM

I can't say I've noticed that happening but it could be because the system is now treating those threads as cms content... do they appear in recent cms comments blocks etc?

carrlos 11-29-2010 12:13 AM

Yes, they do. Do you have a work-around? My users like the sidebar blocks (which I have temporarily removed) and have asked for them to come back.

sticky 11-29-2010 02:31 AM

So when this becomes a part of 4.2 how will the upgrade work? Will I need to disable this mod/uninstall it before upgrading?

Carnage 11-29-2010 05:13 PM

I've just had a quick look at the new posts block. The main db query that generates it strips out the threads which are associated with a CMS article. The work around would be to remove that condition in the query. You may then want to limit the forum(s) selected to not select from the normal cms comments forum.

I really couldn't say at this point. Since I'm using this on my own forums I will need an upgrade path myself so will be planning + developing one once vb 4.2 is available to me.

Can you give some help on how to do this? ;)

Carnage 12-05-2010 09:46 AM

ok, go into includes/block/newposts.php

Find:

PHP Code:

            $posts $this->registry->db->query_read_slave("
                SELECT post.dateline, post.pagetext AS message, post.allowsmilie, post.postid,
                    thread.threadid, thread.title, thread.prefixid, post.attach,
                    forum.forumid,
                    user.*
                    "
. ($this->registry->options['avatarenabled'] ? ",avatar.avatarpath, NOT ISNULL(customavatar.userid) AS hascustomavatar, customavatar.dateline AS avatardateline,customavatar.width AS avwidth,customavatar.height AS avheight" "") . "
                FROM "
TABLE_PREFIX "post AS post
                JOIN "
TABLE_PREFIX "thread AS thread ON (thread.threadid = post.threadid)
                JOIN "
TABLE_PREFIX "forum AS forum ON(forum.forumid = thread.forumid)
                LEFT JOIN "
TABLE_PREFIX "user AS user ON (post.userid = user.userid)
                "
. ($this->registry->products['vbcms'] ? " LEFT JOIN " TABLE_PREFIX "cms_nodeinfo AS info ON info.associatedthreadid = thread.threadid \n" :  '')
            . (
$this->registry->options['avatarenabled'] ? "LEFT JOIN " TABLE_PREFIX "avatar AS avatar ON(avatar.avatarid = user.avatarid) LEFT JOIN " TABLE_PREFIX "customavatar AS customavatar ON(customavatar.userid = user.userid)" "") . "
            WHERE 1=1

$forumsql
                AND thread.visible = 1
                AND post.visible = 1
                AND thread.open <> 10
                AND post.dateline >
$datecut

$globalignore
                "
. ($this->userinfo['ignorelist'] ? "AND post.userid NOT IN (" implode(','explode(' '$this->userinfo['ignorelist'])) . ")"'')
            . (
$this->registry->products['vbcms'] ? " AND info.associatedthreadid IS NULL " :  '') . "
            ORDER BY post.dateline DESC
            LIMIT 0,"
intval($this->config['newposts_limit']) . "
            "
);

remove this line:

. ($this->registry->products['vbcms'] ? " AND info.associatedthreadid IS NULL " : '')

but leave the ." on the end.

carrlos 12-05-2010 10:15 PM

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Will it be the same for threads?

Edit:
It worked for both, thanks! ;)

then i get a double post - for some reason it also happens more frequently on the iphone hence the screen grab, but it does happen on other os too, just less frequently

any ideas?

Hamish Gill 12-17-2010 03:04 PM

GeorgeB85 12-18-2010 08:07 PM

Having an issue. I just tried this mod out, and it is NOT showing the comment anywhere. Not in the thread or the CMS article???

Anyone?

EDIT: Figured out why the comment was not posting, but it only stays in the CMS ARTICLE and not the original thread.

Crimm 12-23-2010 08:06 PM

Thank you SO much!

I'm having a similar issue - when I promote an article that has replies in the forum thread already - it shows that there are X comments on the main page, but when I click "read more," it won't display said comments.

StonePilot 01-03-2011 03:53 AM

Works great! MOTM!

Wish it were retroactive on previous threads that I made and disabled comments on, then I linked to the original thread post myself. :-(

kesandal 02-05-2011 11:41 AM

There is a big bug!

If you have a couple of comments in the thread and there is pagination used in the CMS-Artikel.

You click on Page 2 or some page >1.
Then there is a redirect to another post in the forum!

====
Edit:
I found the error.
But how to fix this???

CMS-Link: community/content/xyz-106/
The proper thread in the forum: /community/f10/xyz-101/

And when I click on page 2 in the CMS-Article I'm redirected to:

/community/f5/this-is-a-completly-anoter-thread-106/

The problem is the 106 in the URL of the CMS-Artikel and the 106 in the URL of the forum-thread.

Carnage 02-05-2011 03:29 PM

Works fine here: http://www.giveupalready.com/content...oshop-Tutorial (this was promoted from a thread)

What version of vb do you have?
Have you customised any templates to do with comments/articles in the cms?
Do you have any other plugins which do things with comments/articles?

RedPoint 02-05-2011 04:18 PM
