I caught the comments earlier in the thread re it working on 3.7 .... BUT, will it work on 3.6.11 (don't ask about why not upgrading!)

mykkal 03-18-2009 05:28 AM

Hey King, how are you?

Please, if you know...I'm just wondering if you know what code I need to change so that the "tweet" title reflects the title of the post "tweeted".

Are the .svn and .DS_Store Folders needed on a Linux/Windows Server or are they only for Mac?

And can you integrate a more modern and Twitter-Like Icon to send the Tweets?

This blue old Style Button in the Package looks terrible. :(

Waiting for 1.1. :)

I haven't tried it, but I don't see why not.

Thanks. :( I am not a good graphic artist. But, I have attached the new one we are using (thanks @fattony69!).

And .svn and .DS_Store can be removed. They are hidden on mac and I totally missed them. .DS_Store is a Mac thing... So yeah, delete. :)

ATTN: I need opinions. Twitter opened their OAuth integration beta to the public and I really want to use it, as it will remove the need for me to actually store and secure a users password, thus removing the mcrypt requirement.

But, the requirement for using OAuth would be for you to individually register an OAuth application specific for your site. I would provide you with all necessary details, but it won't be as simple as upload and install. Would you rather keep it as this, and not use OAuth (which I will learn as it provides a secure method of not sharing a users Password!) for vBTwitter? Please, I need opinions. You may also @vBTwit me on Twitter and I'll get the replies!

What i still hardly miss is a Profil-Box for each User showing his last X Tweets and a short Twitter-Statistic for every User.

I understand. Just noticed that its been done in your test forums for a long time now. How long off is the release? If its a more then a month can you just PM those few lines of code? If you can't I'm totaly fine with it.

Traffic on my site would jump 35%. Its needed.

But it should be completely phrased.

In my opinion i'd like to stop including new functions until we release 1.1 and then we can discuss the new features.

If we now include all wishes, 1.1 wouldn't be released until december 2011;).
Don't know how king kovifor is thinking about it, i'm just the co-author^^

redlabour 03-18-2009 09:33 PM

Just a Hint - if you make a Profilebox in 1.1 - it just seems to be one or two Lines of Code to integrate the Statistic to the Head of it. ;) There was another Mod here on vb.org that does this. Maybe you can get some ideas from it who to use the Twitter-API for this.

I installed the live topic mod after this one. This mod works fine, even with Live Topic. However, the Live Topic gives a browser error whenever someone posts a reply and the reply is not showing up. I disabled Live Topic for now 'till there is a fix. I have posted a ticket on the board of the Live Topic coder too. Just thought you might wanna know what I came across :)
Love this mod, can't wait for the next version.

Well save that for 2.0. :) 1.1 will be feature packed.

ETA? Few months?
Or weeks?

PHP'S MCRYPT EXTENSION IS USED, BE SURE YOU HAVE THIS INSTALLED (MCRYPT IS USED TO ENCRYPT PASSWORDS).

PHP'S CURL EXTENSION IS ALSO USED! THE API CALLS ARE COMPLETELY DEPENDENT ON THEM!

Hello, can anyone tell me how or where I can get these files to install?

This mod will not work, installed on www.bud101.com please check it out and let me know if it works. not working for me.

You need to contact your host about these.

taytaysdad 03-22-2009 09:59 PM

thank you I will contact them and see what they say!

They said both are installed on my server, so it should work.

taytaysdad 03-23-2009 11:01 PM

I keep getting this when I try to tweet a thread/post

"We're sorry, but the Username and Password provided within your User CP could not be authenticated. Please modify either your Username or Password to match your current Twitter Username / Password and try again."

I know the acct is good cause I can log in through twitter Any help is great.

King Kovifor 03-23-2009 11:31 PM

What version? And some passwords do not work through the API, so that may also be your provlemo.

taytaysdad 03-24-2009 03:40 AM

Im running version 3.8 vbulletin

What type of passwords wouldnt work?

FireFish 03-24-2009 06:10 AM

I usually don't do this, but after spending 2 hours on this, I can safely say that it does not work as described. I do see the settings options show up with username & password fields, but it does nothing when saved.

ragtek 03-24-2009 08:56 AM

What you mean exactly with "does nothing" ?
Could you look into the DB if the things are stored in the Usertable or not, pls?

thx

I think if they have special non-ASCII characters, maybe with accents or something. I'm not entirely sure.

Are any of the plugins disabled?

taytaysdad 03-24-2009 08:50 PM

I upgraded to 1.03 and followed directions minus

the code edits and everything seems to be linked up and working

Do I need to do the edits?

Also do I need to edit any other code?

site is www.bud101.com

Ok, here's the Million dollar question (literally).

I notice when you "Tweet this post", on twitter is says "Check this out!" (which I modified) and a tinyurl.com link to the post.

Is there a way to make it work with this linkbee mod:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=192044

So instead of converting to tinyurl.com links, they become your Linkbee.com links?

plumbingskool 03-25-2009 05:05 AM

Hi ,

Can I just make a simple suggestion?

Hope about just doing something like this:

PHP Code:

<a href="http://twitter.com/home?status=Currently reading <?php the_VB THREAD FUNCTION(); ?>" title="Click
to send this page to Twitter!" target="_blank">Share on This On Twitter!</a>

AND THEN

that will bring them to twitter and they can login or it will post the message if they are already logged in as most people are all day long anyhow.

I think trying to bridge the log in is just way over board for a simple "twitter"

I love the module though, and I would just just the above to keep it simple :)

Brandon Sheley 03-25-2009 05:33 AM

oh I missed the update on this, I'll see if it works on our dev forum.
Thanks! :)

member007 03-25-2009 04:06 PM

I installed this and test it out on twitter and it posts a link to Check this out! http://tinyurl.com/dxk7kq . When I click on this link my spyware blocks it said this site is a spy site. Beware.

thats because your spyware program sees tinyurl as spam/spyware - that has nothing to do with this hack

The million dollar answer is I don't do any converting once so ever. That tinyurl converting is not done by my modification.

That won't be done as it'll be bridged in several new ways in the next update.

That's the fault of either (a) your site being considered spam or (b) tinyurl is considered SPAM. It's not my modification.

I can see no point in a forum's users littering their twitter pages with a stream of Check This Out text with no description in the links of what the potential visitor might be looking at? I can't speak for other web users out there, but I don't have a tendancy to click on links just because they tell me to click here or to check this out. If you could find a way to form a better link, perhaps by pulling in the post/thread title, then this mod could be mildly useful.

Until then, I am uninstalling this mod. I wish you success as you try to get this worked out, and I would revisit this mod if you can communicate better to users what exactly the link is going to be about.

Good points.

Brandon Sheley 03-28-2009 02:34 PM

still didn't work for me, even on the default style :(
oh well, I'll try the next update

Remington 03-28-2009 06:23 PM

I click to Tweet a message and get this:

Quote:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /home/password/public_html/forums/includes/twitter.php on line 29
It appears as though I have all my requirements installed on the server.

Hm. Odd, as it is running on my site without problems. Mind emailing me your /includes/twitter.php file? doglover3049 @ gmail.com without spaces.

Please, if you know...I'm just wondering if you know what code I need to change so that the "tweet" title reflects the title of the post "tweeted".

For the record, this took 69 lines of code in a preliminary testing stage. With error checking it does error checking in several steps:
  1. Format Tweet with post title.
  2. Find length of tweet + link, if under 140, skip to the last number.
  3. If above 140, it uses the TinyURL API to create a shortened link and recreates the Tweet.
  4. Rechecks length, if under 140 skip to the last step.
  5. If above 140, it takes the post title and shrinks it so that the tweet is exactly 140 characters and adds a '...' to the end of the chopped off title.
  6. Send Tweet
This needs to be coded for thread titles, so it'll be at least another 69 lines of code, compared to the 10 it was before this detailed tweet functionality.

mykkal 03-28-2009 08:56 PM

oh i see. is it possible to release a patch for this version with this functionality?
i know the members are burning for it. It's just that 1.1 is feature packed. I wonder if it will take a good deal of time to code and debug. I realize you do this for free so your time and availability has to be considered to.

That's a major feature :) I'm quickly depending on your mod.

I am no longer developing 1.0.x; it would require fundamental changes to how the plugin works, which is why I am saving it for 1.1 / 2.0.
