I have a quick question.

Using Paypal, you can send people money as a gift and pay no Paypal fees. In other words, it's free to send or receive money as a gift through Paypal.

Since donations are essentially a gift of help, why is Paypal getting a cut from it?

I think this is a great mod, just missing a few important features.

It is possible to define subscription like donations, yet unfortunately this does not use the vBulletin Paid subscription service which would be ideal for the task.

The dates displayed used should use the standards used for the respective language file. I have American users who expect the "mm-dd-yy" format and European users who expect "dd.mm.yy". Unfortunately, I can only choose one or the other. Please set this to use the language file specific settings.

I have 4 language settings on my forum. "English US", "English UK", "Deutsch (Du)" and "Deutsch (Sie) (Deutsch = German). Both "English" settings" show the Donation bar correctly. Both German settings always show 0 USD received and an empty bar despite donations being present. How do I fix that?

When I set the system to display the list of donors, it is possible to prevent the actual amounts being displayed, but this can still be guessed due to the display of "Subscribed for xx months" on the list. This allow this text to be optionally removed as well.

I strongly suggest this mod to be altered to optionally initiate the paid subscription service to implement the payment and subscriptions. This would have several advantages.

1. Subscriptions could be paid and activated for the requested time automatically. No need to manually check and apply subscriptions
2. The donor is immediately given access to the VIP group and the donation is immediately shown on the donation bar.
3. Most importantly, the subscription will automatically expire at the end of the subscription period
4. A reminder is sent to the donor at the end of the period, thereby possibly encouraging a new donation.

If this could be properly implemented, this mod would be truly ideal.

Paypal transfers from a personal account to a personal account are free, but merchant accounts require fees. Perhaps either you or they have your paypal set up as a merchant account. I don't think you can take donations from credit cards without a merchant account.

Thank you nogerorob. I have the Paypal Premier account. I've been able to send and receive money between my Fiance's Paypal account and mine with no fees.

I just don't think it's really right that Paypal can take a fee from a donation. But then, I know they take a fee from the sales price of goods, and that's fine, but they also take a cut of the shipping money people pay, and I don't feel that's right either. The shipping fee is for the cost of shipping the item. It's not profit you're making, so when they take their cut of that, you're covering the rest of the shipping out of your own pocket.

Reminds me of the time when my ex used to drive a truck and had a gas card for fuel. I was getting bills and one day realized that they were charging state tax on top of the Federal Tax portion of the tax bill so we were getting double taxed. They reimbursed me though when I brought it to their attention.

Taking money from donations I feel is just wrong.

Great mod as always Cyb!! We've been using it for several months now, but for the first time I am using the Donation Bar and it works like a charm.

Only question I have is: is there a way to set up an open ended donation "drive" instead of monthly or yearly? We are starting a donation drive and it may last longer than a month and I didn't want it to reset at the end of the month, is there a way to have it run until it is "done" regardless of how long it takes? Thanks.

It may be that people are paying you with credit cards. I know they fee for that. Hey, PayPal provides any transaction that's a logistical service you have to pay for. Now whether the amount is fair is a whole other question.

The only serious competitor I've heard of is Google Checkout, I'd probably try that out if it seemed like more people would use it. The name recognition with paypal is really good, and the last thing I want a potential donor to do is ditch out because they didn't recognize the payment service.

I love the modification, but I'm having a slight problem with it. I have it enabled to move users to the donator user group after being confirmed, but for some reason they won't stay there. The total donation counter remains the same (even after re-confirming their donation), but the usergroup keeps getting reverted back to plain old Registered Users. Does anyone know of a way to solve this problem?

I think htis modification is great, and have been using it on my forums for a little while.
When I addec vbadvanced to my forums, I wanted to add it to it. So I did, and it appeared to work, but when I click on view donations I get this page error:
How would this be fixed?

find all references to "misc.php" in cyb's code and templates and replace them with your server's URL to misc.

For example: http://yourDomain.com/misc.php and http://yourDomain.com/forums/misc.php

Include the stuff after the question mark too, don't delete that or you'll be adding more problems. That's something you need to get used to doing to all installed mods as a vBA user.

Got error when trying to upload product

Question: If someone subscribes for $1. Do I set it to "1|1" for it to be a reoccurring subscription that will bill each month? It doesn't seem to work if I had it set up for "1|12" which I assumed was $1 a month for 12 months.

I did the full instructions in installation, "view donations" does show up under quick links, but it leads me to a smilie face page, I need to confirm my donators asap and i keep getting held back by this...

Damn, 21 pages of reading & no answer to my problem :p

First things first, cyb man, fantastic mod ;)

Now I'm hoping as somebody can help me with a problem which I'm sure one of you fine folk will know the answer to.

I've installed the hack & it works great, so long as I'm using a skin which has donate, user_cp, members etc... in the navbar.

The problem is the current skin I'm using has user_cp etc... In the header so therefore the auto install of the 'donate' link into the navbar doesn't work (Obviously not because it needs going in the header)

I can't for the life of me figure out what code I need to put, I know it will be something similar to this..... I'll use the 'user_cp' code in the header as an example.

Can anyone help me out & give me the full code that I'd need to add the donate button into the header like that. I've tried going through the navbar templates of all the skins it works on, but even though it is installed & working the code doesn't appear in there :D

I hope my problem makes sense to someone.

Nevermind I've solved it, all I had to do was add the following code after the user_cp code above in the header.

I have the same issue, none of the donations show up in the donations bar....even tried on a test install fresh VB and no go....I must be missing a step

Well, this mod or hack is not that hard to install. Like the instruction said. All we need to do is just IMPORT PRODUCT and go the vbulletin option to turn it on. I don't see any big step we got to do in this mod. Well, in the instruction below got 4 steps, but the last 3 steps are OPTIONAL ONLY . Anybody got any ideas?

There seems to be a big issue with the control panel to confirm donators not working. My link to the control confirm donators gives me a smilie page, could this PLEASE be fixed, otherwise I will be forced to remove this donate product and look for something else which I would hate. So Please could someone look into this? I did all the steps , even the optional ones.

Nevermind. I found my error. Under "usergroupid" in the options, I wrote the name of the user group instead of the id number.

Could someone please help me? I REALLY need to get this to work...

I have this installed and can view the donations page, but when I go there it won't let me see any of the donations. I'm the admin of the board, but can't confirm any of the donations. Any idea whats wrong?

Is there a possibility of making it work with IPN in the future?

The problem I get is a PM report each time someone submits the donation to PayPal but doesnt actually go any further, just simply leaves the forum pages.

With IPN, it could automate the process and confirm donations then send a PM?

Would be great if this could be added.

One other thing, at the moment once a user has donated, the link back to my website shows as this: Any ideas how to change this path?

This is because the mod assumes that you use usergroup ID 6 for your administrators.

I do not and use my custom usergroups. As a result, you need to manually edit the template "cyb_paypal_list" and search for:

installed for a while now and works great, if everything is installed per instructions then its simply used by admin, selct which groups an donate,etc (i just put all groups) and make sure admin group is set to confirm donations

Well I am an administrator and I am in usergroup id number 6, so it should work???
