So then that .htaccess looks fine?^

And I don't need an .htaccess in my root? That seems odd... Spiders are not crawling any pages.

iojam 09-03-2008 03:03 PM

.htaccess looks ok. What is your sitemap URL?

BOSS 302 09-03-2008 06:56 PM

forum/vbseo_sitemap

But my homepage (vbadvanced) and forum are like named the same thing even though I named them separately. When someone views my homepage or forum it says the same thing when I view who's online. viewing forum.

The spiders seem to get stuck on one of the indexes and not go anywhere else.

I was told I do need a .htaccess in my root as well. What goes in it?

And are you sure my .htaccess looks okay for the FORUM root? I see rewrite engine on twice.

And what about the URLS in that htaccess? Do mine need to go there?

htaccess file has to be uploaded to forum root is mentioned, if I have vbadvanced portal system, then where should the file be uploaded to ?
I have my forum is "forums" directory where as the portal shows up in the index page i.e mysite.com/index.php .

iojam 09-05-2008 10:46 PM

arena,

try to disable text sitemap generation, remove all files from data/ folder generate sitemap again.

realmr,

you should upload it in forums/ folder.

Shmaba 09-05-2008 11:13 PM

Where does the HTacess folder get uploaded to?

Toupsx 09-06-2008 12:20 PM

I get
Quote:

Error 404 - Not found

Your browser can't find the document corresponding to the URL you typed in.
whenever I click the link for the sitemap link under sitemap files.. same for all the files in there.. and also I'm getting absolutely nothing from the Sitemap Downloads Log because the wrong url is being submitted to the search engines because they getting nothing from it as well..

veenuisthebest 09-06-2008 12:32 PM

amazing mod I must say.. wonder why i did not noticed it before.

I have few questions:-

1. Why is that .htaccess in forum dir required, i mean what does it actually do ? Is it just for pointing to sitemap file that is in the data dir from site root ? Can't google download sitemaps from inside directories coz I see in Webmaster tools that we can add from inside dirs as well.

Example: sitemap.xml
Example: directory/other_sitemap.xml

2. Right after generating sitemap, is it submitted to Google instantly ? I see in my webmaster tools that it still says, "You have not submitted any Sitemaps".

3. Is it okay to set "Generate Yahoo-Compatible Text Sitemap" to NO. Is it as important as google's ?

4. I have included group.php, album.php and tags.php, yet I see this in report details everytime I generate sitemap:-
Album URLs 0 (-)
Social Group URLs 0 (-)
Tag URLs 0 (-)

Also, I checked in sitemap_1.xml manually, there aren't any url's of either of those 3.

5. In the Sitemap Downloads Log, I see only Google and MSN downloaded my sitemap and not others. Does it take some time ?

6. If I'd like to index other custom vbpage URL's (i.e. not default vbulletin's), how do I do it with this mod and not manually ? Do I need to create a custom addon for that ?

Thank you so much.

You do not upload the htaccess folder, instead just the .htaccess file in it to your forums root.

iojam 09-06-2008 12:51 PM

Toupsx,

did you generate sitemap?

veenuisthebest,

1. it is required that Google finds sitemap in the topmost folder of the site (forum).

2. Google, is "pinged", but it cannot submit sitemap to your google webmaster account, you should do that manually.

3. Yes, it's not required for Google. Earlier text sitemap was used for Yahoo submission, but now Yahoo supports xml sitemap as well.

4. Do you have any groups/albums publically accessible on your forum?

5. Yes, it might take time. You can submit sitemap to Yahoo here: https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites

6. You can either create an add-on (similar to ones includes in "addons/" folder) or manually insert all URLs in "extra-urls.txt" file and they will be included in sitemap as well.

Yes, its auto-generated over 15 times now, and I manually tried several times. (installed this a while ago didn't know that the links weren't working =\

1. Okay
2. Does "pinging successful" means that sitemap has been successfully submitted to the respective SE's servers ?
3. Okay
4. Yes, i have the groups/albums enabled for guests.
5. Okay
6. So this means that we can index static url's with extra-urls.txt and for dynamic urls we need to create an addon, right ?
7. In the email I get "Live.com Ping" as well but it does not display in Report details in the admincp.

Edit: Think I found a bug. I have 9 static URL's listed in "extra-urls.txt". Then I generated a sitemap. FINE ! All 9 are loaded in the sitemap. But the scheduled task that ran at 2 am did not caught those URL's and gave a -9. Then I manually ran generator and got a +9. Seems scheduled task ain't checking "extra-urls.txt"

Thank You !

what is the problem?

This is probably because you do not have the .htaccess in the forums root with the required contents. Read the installation manual.

Hi vBSEO,

I have uploaded everything to the tee (I hope). and when I enter the adress: http://www.yoursite.com/vB-root/vbseo_sitemap/ (with my address entered :)) I get what is showing in the attachment below.

I also did your test to see if my mod_rewrite is able. It re-directed me back to Google homepage - so no problems there.

Your help would be very much appreciated.

PS. I pretty new to this, but am 99% certain all files have been uploaded correctly. I am running 3.6.8 Patch Level 2.

Many Thanks,
Welshy2008.

http://www.yoursite.com/vB-root/vbseo_sitemap/ should be http://www.yoursite.com/forum/vbseo_sitemap/

replace vb-root with your forum directory

Thank you - That works great.

Welshy2008 09-08-2008 11:50 AM

Sorry - I thougt I'd updated this - 404 has been taken care of.

(I hadn't entered my "Forum" in the address. :()

its a .htaccess issue, check it ! It should be in your forums directory with the required contents.

Are you sure .htaccess works on your server ?

If it doesn't, then you'll need to manually move the sitemap to your forum root.

abdobasha2004 09-08-2008 04:12 PM

I contacted the host provider and they said there .htaccess is not enabled
how can i move the sitemap manually

thanks a lot

Run the sitemap generator. Then simply copy the sitemap_index.xml.gz and sitemap_1.xml.gz files from forum/vbseo_sitemap/data dir to forum/

Fireproof 09-08-2008 05:14 PM

Make sure the data directory under your vbseo_sitemap directory is set to 777 permissions. Also make sure that all files and sub-directories under the data directory have the same permissions.

Toupsx,

do you have sitemap files created in data/ folder?

veenuisthebest,

2. it's still recommended to manually submit it in google webmaster account.
6. yes.

kyle1745,

you should submit http://www.sitename.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz

veenuisthebest 09-09-2008 09:24 AM

I do have groups, albums and tags enabled and all 3 are enabled for guests as well, still it doesn't pick any URL's of those. Says 0 URL's in report details. I manually checked the sitemap, the url's aren't there.

Thanks

Fireproof 09-09-2008 02:41 PM

I am successfully generating the sitemap files, and they are in the vbseo_sitemap/data folder. However, they are not getting re-written to my www.mysite.com/forums folder (even though the report page says that is where it should land).

How can I diagnose what is going on with the htaccess rewrite? I have put that file in www.mysite.com directory as well as www.mysite.com/forums directory as well as www.mysite.com/forums/vbseo_sitemap directory. Nothing seems to help.

hima85222 09-09-2008 09:14 PM

When i do generate for the site map, i get this result and it's not good because it don't list threads, posts into the process, here is a picture

veenuisthebest,

please try this: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...ow#post1569430

Fireproof,

you can check if mod_rewrite works on your site as described in http://www.vbseo.com/f77/how-check-i...my-site-21502/

hima85222,

are your forums open for guests?

hima85222 09-09-2008 10:24 PM

No, it's closed for guests

iojam 09-09-2008 10:35 PM

Private subforums are not included in sitemap, since they cannot be viewed by SE bots anyway.
