Darkmaster92 08-23-2009 03:11 PM

It seems to work also on 3.8.4
Nice mod, now lets see if it works well :)

Its a rather strange issue >.>

I'm one of the tech's for the MGC mod...If you can't get MGC to work, it's usually the Mod_security issue on Apache....PM me if you need help. As I don't check this thread...

Thanks...will try this.

Peter Caparelli 09-27-2009 05:14 PM

I've downloaded the "Stop-The-Bots" hack, backed up my vB database, made the additions and substitutions as per steps 1, 2 and 3 of the install file, but I'm stuck at #4:

"***Forth: Upload the contents of the upload folder."

I see the contents of the upload folder, but WHERE am I uploading them?

I'm eager to install this hack as it's been so well received, but can someone give me a push inb the right direction? Please?

VB1r@n 09-28-2009 03:38 PM

thanks
mark as installed

i know this sound gona strange to everyone but i was having this problem .i simple disable the hack then i try to register its work fine as i have install the hack so dont know what causing it . but its work (100%)

richTV 11-12-2009 03:09 AM

was getting the same thing so i uninstalled it under vB3.8.X as i figured it wasn't working correctly for this.

unless it is a conflict with https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=183329 ????

best to search in the vB3.8 section for a newer addon.

was a nice hack when it lasted, tnx for sharing it none-the-less. :)

noppid 11-12-2009 01:00 PM

This mod works fine under 3.8.4. We have found most problems are usually a step missed in the install process.

cowboycoalition 11-16-2009 12:03 PM

i have installed this and i still get a bunch of registration bots that register. am i doing something wrong?

If you give us a link to your site, maybe a quick look could tell us something.

Not one bot registration has made it past my junk yard dogs, Stop The Registration Bots and vBSFS, in the past 10 days. Legit users got in without issues. But between them Stop The Registration Bots and vB Stop Forum Spam defeated every single bot. In fact, the ground around my site is practically littered with the corpses of dead and rotting bots.

Way to kick butt, noppid. {loud applause, cheering, foot stomping, howling and wolf whistles} I say, HELL YES!!!

Thank You!!! :D           :D

websissy 02-17-2010 01:12 AM

21 days and still counting. STILL not a single spam bot has managed to get in. We've been forced to buy a backhoe to bury all the bot corpses... The bots Stop The Forum Spam does NOT catch and kill, StopTheRegistrationBots does.

So far, so good...

This pair of tools work!

I installed this last year on my 3.8.2 Forum and it stopped them all. It works perfectly! But, I now have a 4.0.2 install and I'm getting hit with Bots all the time.

Is there a version of this for VB4? I hope, I hope, I hope?

With vb 3.8.4 this mod no longer serves its function. It looks like they have figured out how to get past it.

Peter Caparelli 04-15-2010 09:36 AM

So what is currently our best defense against reg bots? I use vB 4 at one URL, and 3.6 at another.

Didn't think vB4 users would want this. I'll get it in the editor and see what we can do.

Why not?

I had it for an old 3.8 board and it worked wonders. I haven't found anything similar for vb4.

Great. But I figured the vB 4 registration would be pretty strong. However, I guess more hurdles for spammers to get stuck on can't be bad.

I'm uploading the 4.0 code to a test server right now. PM me if you can help.

Works on vB 3.6.12?
Or is there an alternative?

adwade 11-29-2010 01:10 PM

One available alternative is ZB BLOCK. It just requires a single line of CODE added to your global.php file and your vB forum is protected from many kinds of bad 'bots.. Oh yeah, and it's FREE!

ZB BLOCK
Don't let the robots in the door!
A GPL V2 PHP Protection Script for your site.

This php security script is designed to detect certain behaviors detrimental to websites, or known bad addresses attempting to access your site. It then will send the bad robot (usually) or hacker an authentic 403 FORBIDDEN page with a description of what the problem was. If the attacker persists, then they will be served up a permanently recurring 503 OVERLOAD message with a 24 hour timeout.

White Devil 11-30-2010 04:48 AM

This page does not look very serious

career 01-07-2011 12:52 PM

Thanks noppid!
Before -100-500 registers per day
After - 50.

madmax1228 01-07-2011 01:06 PM

I have been using this for a long time and LMAO at competitor boards who are slammed daily with bot registrations. I concur this is a great mod!

Afterglow86 01-08-2011 05:43 AM

I've just installed due to a recent bombardment of registrations of a suspicious nature. Let's hope it works.

Artes_Marciales 01-09-2011 02:04 PM

Thanks!!!!

xlguy 01-15-2011 07:27 PM

We are using the "skip rules" plugin and have our forum rules as part of the register page. We found this increases sign-up rates. However, it means we cannot use this Stop Registration Bots plugin. Would it be possible to change the plugin so it doesn't rely on the user passing through the rules page first?

Thanks for this link! This is exactly what I have been looking for as I am continuously being bombarded with hacker-bots attacking my register.php script, leading my ISP to threaten to close down my site for using too much of the shared resources.

I've installed it and already the log fie is showing many malicious bots being turned away. We'll see how it goes...but looks good!

adwade 03-09-2011 07:01 PM

Plenty welcome. My killed_log.txt files typically run 2mb/mo in size, so you can just image how many undesirables ZB BLOCK keeps off our website. Several admins have had a few issues with it, but as with any new program there's going to be a learning curve. Zaphod is great about responding to questions and will help you any way you can. Just watch your logs for awhile, and you'll soon be able to pick out anything questionable you might want to allow onto your site. See also, General Request - Zb Block - Stop Spam & 'bots @ Server

This mod is brilliant one :)
Thanks man

AuroraStorm 03-17-2011 09:58 PM

Thank you! This was right on time. I recently reopened my board registration and I got hit with spam bots. I hope this helps.

AuroraStorm 03-28-2011 08:51 PM

Okay, I have a problem - this hack disabled my Thank You Hack. How can I prevent that from happening?

jeremyalyea 06-04-2011 09:10 PM

Anyone know how to disable the email that says: "Possible Bot denied forum registration"?

Go to vBulletin Options -> Stop the Registration Bots Options -> Email Notification and check no.
