will this work for 3.8?
|
mine still working on 3.8
|
*Installed*
Works Perfect on 3.8.0 |
this is a great little plug-in that i've been using almost since i set my board up
i notice it's marked as "not supported" so i guess no tweak was ever released to get it to create thumbnails from embedded [img] files, a facility that was requested early on in the thread? (for some reason if i search the thread for "[img]" it returns 0 posts, and i don't want to wade through all 19 pages if somebody knows the answer straight off) |
You are correct. In this mod, at least, no tweak was ever released to create thumbnails from embedded [img] files. This mod simply, and so effectively, can only grab/see/display a thumbnail 1) if the thumbnail was created thru vB Attachment Manager and 2) if the thumbnail is in the thread's first post.
Possibly doing a search thru all of vB.org's forums may turn something up. ~theOZer |
thanks for the reply, i rather thought that would be the case
as i say, the obvious query word "img" or "[img]" returns no results, i guess because there aren't enough letters in "img"... and in any case, if this mod doesn't handle embedded images, then i don't really want to use any other mod - as this one mostly works fine apart from this (very minor) issue |
Yeah this is a great mod.
I actually started using one made by Gio that creates thumbs like this and also gives you a lot of flexibility and options within all your forums. It's a great product. |
Hi,
I am using this plugin and i am able to display the thumbnails, but if some user links the photo from some other site, then the thumbnail is not displayed. Can you please let me know what can be done to display thumbnails of images linked from other sites. I am using 3.8.1. Thanks. |
Hi,
first of all, I really like this mod! I need only a simple info : There is a way to show the thumbnail in the forum main page ? For example : 8 inline thumbnail to the upper part of the forum (or lower, etc) In the past I had a forum with 8 thumbnail from photopost, now I remove it but I still need to have the thumbnail ! Thanks a lot! |
been using for some time now. it was just what my site really needed.
the thing is, i've always been finding ways for the thread thumbnails to load better on IE. it's just so much more slower when all the thumbnails have to be loaded before the page actually displays plus, on some pcs, the thread thumbnails hang their IE browsers. could it be the intense loading for the browser? theOzer or anyone out there found a better way to load the thumbnails? <DIV> instead of tables perhaps? |
Great mod here. However what about linked images? Any way to get them to show?
|
I just burned 30+ minutes perusing vB.org looking for a hack that would create a thumbnail when someone posts a linked image. I couldn't find anything.
I've also tried to find a commercial software package that offers this feature. No luck for me so far; maybe I need to improve my web searching abilities; maybe. I've seen some impressive forums where on the main page there's an array of thumbnails that when clicked on take you to the post, etc... Where to find out how to do this or where to buy the code to do this is currently beyond my reach. Hmmm. |

Many issues come into play concerning performance and page displays in vB. How many mods/hacks do you have running in addition to this TT mod. Don't forget their pull on your forum reserves. This mod can't be DIV'd or JavaScripted or swanktified. But, try adding Width and Height to your <img tag (see page 19, post #278). Just the Width parameter works for IE but you need both Width and Height parameters for this to work in FireFox and other browsers, so use both parameters. |

Anyway, if you found a way to create this hack I'm stick around this thread :) |
I, too, have nothing more to offer here.

thanks for taking the time to look anyway

My Vbulletin Version is 374 |
See page 8, Post #112. The change to search.php hasn't change, so, the info in this post still applies; this added code works in all versions of vB search.php from 368 thru 38x.

thanks for the help. well, the real problem is with the older or messed up old IE's that some of my users complains about. it works fine with standard or new browsers. even my Nokia phone loaded the page with no problems. Just thought there'd be a way to speed things up like some other classifieds sites. are you saying that if i add the witdh and height tags, the page will load better? I have a rather busy forums section which i use for classifieds. This has made an impact on the server loads right after i used the TT plugin. it's something i will bever remove though. It has improved the site experience so much\ I have since added another quad core server, so server load is back on track. if anyone want to have a look at how i used the thread thumbnails, this is it http://www.zerotohundred.com/newforu...d-performance/ |
6piston,
Concerning older versions of IE. Trying to cater your forum to work in older IE versions is honorable but… why? If someone has IE7 upgrade or IE8 upgrade (dropped today!) or, worse yet, IE6 upgrade "fear," smolly. Upgrade. Much to my amazement and joy was the discovery that the latest version of Mozilla’s FireFox seems to be THE browser to use when viewing a vB forum. So, put a ‘works best with…’ line hidden somewhere in your footer using a really really small font (visualize a cute smiling smilie here). No. I apologize and after rereading see my suggestion as misleading about performance. But, have you tested using width & height? To actually reduce your thumbnails’ size (AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Message Attachment Options > Thumbnail Size) might improve display delay but its messy and not recommended by me. Always first test changes like this in your testvb. My initial post here about using width and height was for someone who just wanted to tidy up, display smaller thumbnails in a list. Nice web site and utilization of this TT mod. Remember, any hookname that “knows” a thread’s thread.firstpostid can be used to grab 1st post attachment info, too. For example, I found one in tags.php, hookname: tags_list_query_data (see pg 12, post 169). How you’ve shaped up your forum shows me you should be able to take this FYI tidbit and run with it. Good luck. Regards, theOzer P.S. Curiously, IE8 was officially released as I (pre)typed my reply diatribe here. IE8 seems to "handle" using HighSlide in Image Resizer (which I use with NO image resizing, just HighSlide). Hmmm... |
Finally installed and got it working.
Now, I really need the thread thumb to show up above the thread itself on showthread. I already have a spot for the thread title above the first post, that works, but I can't get the thumbnail to show up. I copied and modified the template code from the threadbit, and inserted this where I want it to show up: Code:
<if condition="$tt_displaythumbs"> |

I used this mod here to begin with, then found provb AF and haven't turned back :) |

Does it let you show the first attachment of the first post of a thread in the thread (and search, and tag listings)? If there's a commercial product that we can use instead of this I'd be willing to go that route. Right now the last piece of the puzzle is being able to display the image thumbnail above the thread, near the top of the showthread template. Do you know if that's possible? Thx! |
PM sent instead of posting in this thread anymore ;)

kyle1745,
Thread Thumbnails in (your selected) forums works in all vB38x versions so far. You should not need to make any changes/tweaks to this mod's base thread thumbnails plugin after a vB update. To display thread thumbnails in your Search lists and/or your Tags list you need to tweak search.php and/or tags.php (like we have had to for all previous vB version updates since 368). If you have the 'Thread Thumbnail - Search' plugin turned ON - Did you change, add the TT code to the vB3.8.x search.php file? (see Post # 112 on Page 8 or do a Search this Mod looking for search.php, whatever) If you have the 'Thread Thumbnail - Tag Search' plugin turned ON - Did you change, add the TT code to the vB3.8.x tags.php file? (see Post # 169 on page 12 or do a Search this Mod looking for tags.php, whatever) In my testvb instance I successfully upgraded to vB3.8.x, after adding the TT code to both search.php and tags.php, and both plugins work for me. ~theOZer |
I am installing this into a 3.8.2 forum.
I added the plugin, and set the forum id. I do not see any thumbnails in the forum. |
I also start gettign database errors when I add this plugin:

hi theOZer
thank you for supporting this mod, was using this mod for sometime only on the forumdisplay i am now ready to integrate into search, so i tried doing it last night by activating the plugin for search and then applying your codes in post #112 to my search.php for 3.7.2 But no thumbnails shows in search, it looks like default. is there some further template mods i should be doing? as you can see here, my forumdisplay tt's are working perfectly: http://www.zerotohundred.com/newforums/cars-for-sale/ Thanks! Tom |

Hi I just LOVE this Mod, Thank You So Very Much you saved me a ton of work and made my movie web site look like it should. WooHoo! Only 1 problem I am having is that its showing the full size of the poster instead of a thumbnail,, did I miss something somewhere?

Good Thing is that the Forum Search and The Forums Still show the thumbnails albeit all of them are the full size, wish I could change that. |
Work excellent on 3.8.1 with vbSEO.
Thanks. |
