Do you need to have VBSeo or Zoints SEO installed for this to work?

iojam 08-15-2007 09:35 PM

kollam003,

if you can PM me your ftp login details, I'll check the permissions.

You should create .htaccess file as described in installation instructions, in this way sitemap file can be accessed via forums root.

The .htaccess file is in the forum root directory. Do I need to edit it somehow?

iojam 08-16-2007 04:41 PM

If you already have .htaccess file in forums folder, you should add rewrite rules for vBSEO Sitemap Generator to the top of it.

dilbert 08-16-2007 05:08 PM

Will this work for us Windows folks?

This is what's in it...

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]

Lethe 08-17-2007 05:42 PM

nice addon..
just one problem.. it takes the urls for the sitemap from only non restricted topics.
For example when i dissallow my guests to view the inside of a thread the url doesnt gets included in the sitemap.. is there a solution for that? (for viewing posts inside a thread i expect that the guests log in or register)

LanciaStratos 08-18-2007 03:50 AM

I have a very large forum with 87,000 threads and 2.4 million posts. Obviously, this will result in a very large sitemap. Has anyone else successfully installed this plugin on a similarly large forum? Can I expect a performance hit while the large sitemap is being generated?

That's the way it should be. Spiders, like Guests, are not logged in members. If Guests can't see a thread, neither can spiders.

To include those in a sitemap would be asking spiders to crawl threads which in fact they will never be able to "see".

nvm...
i removed the permisson part in vbseo_sitemap_functions.php and its working now like i want..
thx anyway..

iojam 08-19-2007 06:10 PM

Michael2,

those are rewrite rules for vBSEO Sitemap Generator, so you don't need to change it.

LanciaStratos,

vBSEO Sitemap Generator will automatically split the sitemap onto parts according to xml sitemaps protocol.

I know it's a late reply but I ran into this as well. You are using a slave database server right? If so that is why. Just change the data type to mysql from mysql_slave to import it. Then change it back to mysql_slave once imported.

i upload the file

but the host delete it automatically

if there is any file modification?? plz help

how can i fix that???

AFemaleProdigy 08-23-2007 12:47 AM

I am running this on two different sites. Both are giving me database errors when I run the gen with "Include Show Thread Pages" set to "yes". If I disable that, the map is created with no problems. Any ideas here?

It gets to this point and gives a database error:

Code:

[SECTION START] showthread [0s (+0s)]
***update***

I did some testing and noticed that if I disable "Smart Priority for Show Thread Pages", but leave the "Include Show Thread Pages" enabled then I do not get the error. So it seems there may be a problem with that priority feature???

DieselMinded 08-23-2007 05:02 PM

It wont let me delete the download log why?

It's not deleted, but just becomes invisible via FTP, it's normal.

Do you have "vBSEO URLs" option enabled?

Michael2 08-23-2007 09:48 PM

iojam - Thanks for helping me sort this out. Our replies have been spread over a few pages so I'm going to delete/reinstall and let you know what I've done and what error(s) I'm getting.

First, my forum is in the boards/ directory, it is not in the root directory. Not sure if that's what's causing the problem. Everything seems to be there, it's just looking for it in the wrong place.

Ok, uploaded the contents of the "upload" folder to boards/ directory. Chmod'd the boards/vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder to 777. There is not a .htaccess folder in the forum root so I uploaded the .htaccess file supplied. Imported vbseo_sitemap.xml.

Ok, now in the admincp these are the default selections I changed... vBSEO Installed set to no, Auto-Notify Yahoo set to no, entered password for vBSEO Sitemap Interface Access Password.

Now to Google...

I enter my site as http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/. The seo admin says my sitemap url is http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/sitemap_index.xml.gz so I entered sitemap_index.xml.gz but when I enter that I get a 404 error.

So long story short I guess that's where I'm at right now. When I run the task I see the files being created, I just can't get the right URL in to Google for some reason.

Michael2 08-23-2007 10:15 PM

Ok, I think this is the url I need to submit to Google...

http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/v...p_index.xml.gz

But it's looking for the files here...

View errors for: http://www.veggieboards.com/sitemap_1.xml.gz

They're actually located here...

http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/v...temap_1.xml.gz

How do I get it to look in the right place? If it's the .htaccess file what exactly do I need to put in there? And does it go in the root directory or in the boards/ directory?

I keep getting this error and I looke dover the install instructions and everything is correct.

iojam 08-26-2007 12:00 PM

Michael2,

you should submit http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/sitemap_index.xml.gz URL. Make sure that your host supports mod_rewrite if you get 404 errors for it.

Shouzen,

try to reupload all vBSEO Sitemap Generator files.

alfa2 08-26-2007 07:54 PM

Nice mod.
Thanks

DieselMinded 08-27-2007 01:12 AM

Well I fixed This .... i didnt have the "." in front of .htaccess

DM

wolf32 08-27-2007 01:28 PM

Thank you very much for the hack. *Clicks install*

However, aren't you supposed to have a 'Site Map' generated at the bottom right hand corner of the footer? I can't seem to generate one Here

Zagis 08-28-2007 03:24 PM

I unistalled the product and deleted all related files a few weeks ago but Google still looking for http://www.site.com/forum/vbseo_sitemap/sitemap_index.xml.gz

How can I fix this issue?

  • Delete the sitemap from your Google Webmaster acount if you have one.
  • Delete any references to the sitemap from your .htaccess file.
  • Delete any references to the sitemap in your robots.txt file.

I know that sounds a bit strange but I've deleted everything including the references to the sitemap from those files.

My Google Webmaster acount is pointing to the sitemap I use in a different directory.

djbaxter 08-28-2007 05:19 PM

Make sure you double check the .htaccess files in both your root directory and the http://www.site.com/forum/ directory.

Make sure you have deleted the entire http://www.site.com/forum/vbseo_sitemap/ directory.

Make sure you haven't added any links to http://www.site.com/forum/vbseo_site...p_index.xml.gz on your forum or anywhere else.

iojam 08-30-2007 06:48 PM

wolf32,

no, vBSEO Sitemap Generator only creates XML formatted sitemap for Google/Yahoo and doesn't modify your site's pages.

wolf32 08-30-2007 10:21 PM

That's all I needed to know, Thanks.
