Spam is an insulting term, please do not use insults when thanking a coder for using their modification they provided for free.

Feedback can be left in a more professional manner, or not at all.

I know I would prefer someone didn't come into a thread for a mod I created to tell me they removed a copyright link or other code I placed in there which are within the forum rules to advertise my services. It's a petty thing to do- if you don't like a mod as it is provided then don't use it. No one is forcing you.

That's fair enough, if it was just a copyright, but that's not the case, immediately after you install it you have some sort of redirect in the ACP and it starts some sort of comment feed and it is filled with advertising for his premium version of Spam hammer, I find the whole thing kind of ironic that he promotes removing spam while at the same time feeding it to you, I guess I could probably say nothing at all like you say but I think it's fair warning to others who may install this mod.

@ OP thank you for the mod but please don't hijack our ACP to advertise your Premium mods, also you may want to consider some modifications to your code for the Avatar resizing, I modified it so the Max Width is the only thing you need to worry about and have the height set to auto.

I also fixed the links for reputation and friends so they actually go to those pages instead of just your profile page.

Code:

        case 'reputation':
                $link = "{$vbulletin->options['bburl']}/usercp.php?#reprecv";
                $value = $vbulletin->userinfo['reputation'];
                break;

        case 'friend':
                $link = "{$vbulletin->options['bburl']}/profile.php?do=buddylist";
                $value = $vbulletin->userinfo['friendcount'];
                break;

I also removed the lines between the groups as they don't look nice with dark styles, other then that the actual mod is very nice.

That is fair feedback and still makes the point you are not happy with the advertising, as well as alerting others to expect this. :up:

That isn't fair feedback;

1. Nobody is hijacking anyones admincp. You install the plugin it shows a message you click decline and you never see it again until you upgrade/reinstall the mod or click the link at the bottom of the plugin settings screen. There is no copyright link, no spam.

He's not alerting anyone of anything, or helping anyone make an informed decision. He's lying, doing it deliberately, and trying to inflict damage on the image of the mod. Everything he's making up now is in reaction to being caught breaking the rules.

2. This person goes from flaming and calling this mod (and our other ones) an expletive (before your edit) to "That's fair enough, if it was just a copyright", "the actual mod is very nice". It's a complete 180 -- keep this in mind.

As an author, you at least can relate to what a load of crap that copyright comment is. If there was one, he'd be raging more. I stopped putting copyrights in because that's what everyone asked for, but nothing is enough for people like him.

You are totally right in saying he doesn't have to use the mod. Honestly, he shouldn't even be allowed to continue posting in this thread. Imagine someone coming into one of your various mod topics and doing exactly the same thing.

3. What's ironic here is that I long ago implemented the two resizing options in the AdminCP to fix the avatar problem he was talking about, and I did it faster because of his (entitlement-minded) request. It's like being spit on.

After the fix, I never heard anything from him until yesterday when he wrote the nasty post you just took down after I released an update adding a bug fix and a new feature, both of those unrelated to the post-install message.

Neither of us wants someone like that using our mods, but that's the smaller issue. The real issue is that people like him can come into a mod topic, suck it dry and the attitude is that "it's ok".

BirdOPrey5 11-27-2013 11:49 PM

I apologize, I have not installed the mod and really don't know what it does to the AdminCP. If it doesn't do what he claims hopefully those who have used it will also speak up and let the truth be known.

Not saying you're not providing the truth, but obviously it would mean more coming from a 3rd party than the mod author.

Max Taxable 11-28-2013 01:06 AM

It does exactly what the author says it does and nothing more. I know because I installed it but for reasons unrelated to the Mod itself, had to take it down.

I have installed this mod and all seems well...
