Havent tried this yet, does this mean admin can read members PM's ? as this would be a huge confidentiality issue for us, I hope it doesnt, but would appreciate a reply please.

Good question - or rather - good point from TimberFloor regarding confidentiality issues. I guess the answer is obvious, if you are logged in as the user, you "are" the user with the users profile permissions and therefore you WOULD access their PM.

@Valter... 3.0.4 to fix the bug?

LoneWolf71 02-10-2010 01:50 AM

Yes you can read PM's.. It happened to me just now..lol

Good mod, installed. :)

thanks!

TimberFloorAu 02-10-2010 06:00 AM

For that purpose I wont install this mod then, as I think that is a serious breach of confidentiality, and if your members ever caught wind that this was a feature at your disposal your forum would die in MINUTES.

Thanks

My members know we can read their PM's, there hasn't been a problem for them.

I just let them know that we don't go snooping around and only log into accounts if the person is being unrully. If they are breaking the rules, then there PM's deserve to be open for Admins to decide what is going on.

Their is no confidential information since it is a public site. Don't like it don't use it. No need to let the world know you don't agree. Hell you can log into your own database and read PM's so I don't know why you are even using VBulletin....

The only confidential information are passwords, which are unobtainable.

Oh and my forum has over 200 active users through out the day so my forum didn't die within minutes.

Same here. I am the only one with access to log in to other user accounts, and my members know this as well. I assured them, that it would only be done if and when they had issues with their account, or we were testing out new features.

And like you said, if you don't like the product or think it is breaking some code of ethics, then no one is twisting anyone's arm to install it.

Valter 02-10-2010 01:52 PM

There are ways to read private data even without this product, if someone really want to do so.

This was not made for that but to test permissions, fix user account problems etc...

NiTRoN 02-10-2010 07:45 PM

getting error when trying to import the product..

Fatal error: Call to a member function hide_errors() on a non-object in /......../forums/includes/adminfunctions_plugin.php(450) : eval()'d code on line 2

My members know I can read their PM's and no one is worried about it. I also have it in the rules when you register so they know. It's not like we just ++++ around and read them for fun. If something were to ever happen we maintain our right to investigate as far as we need to. This is an excellent mod for trouble shooting, especially permission issues between usergroups.

lemonadesoda 02-11-2010 12:06 AM

I am using vB in a corporate environment where different permissions are set up for each user to create chinese walls across various projects and departments.

This tool allows the admin to quickly check the permissions are set up correctly.

THE TOOL IS A BLXXDY BRILLIANT. Thanks!

And I like the green bar "you are logged in as..." and "exit back out to admin". Well thought out tool.
