Is there a release date / estimate date for when the new version will be released? I am interested in installing this mod but will there be any point if the new version will be released soon.

I think it will be released when he got fixxed the problems he found :D But testing with this release wont hurt you i think just take the one that is in an post somwhere in this topic it had an small problem fixxed.
