Run the vBHome (lite) uninstaller (vbhlinstall.php I believe).

mccollin 07-28-2003 11:05 PM

I've loaded up a vbhomelite on my test site and all is well except that I get no lines on my news articles? I have tried changing it from the default 5000 to 0 and to 1000. Get no lines regardless.

Here is the test url....

I like to know this too.

cinq 07-29-2003 04:53 AM

Has been brought up many times previously ....

Run the article indexer in vbhlinstall.php

mccollin 07-29-2003 11:32 AM

Thanks. That did it.

Now, how would one create multiple home pages for the same vbulletin install. I've seen it done, but don't see any immediate way to do it. Where I saw it done before, they were using a different directory for each page.

Thanks again.

cindyd 07-29-2003 03:27 PM

Gary, thanks for your help yesterday.

I figured this out... no need to reply.

Is there any (relatively easy) way to get the 'users online today' hack to list the users on the vbhome index instead of the forumhome? I looked at the code but I dont see where I could put the users online code because it's different from what the hack says. Is it possible?

Leo Wyatt 07-31-2003 06:57 PM

Im not sure if anyone can help, but can you tell me what I've done wrong when installing vbhome? [Check attachement]. The layout isn't right, and it wont take from my forum style

Gary King 07-31-2003 07:09 PM

Revert your home template.

Gary King 07-31-2003 07:09 PM

For using your forum's style, it's in the vBHome options in vBulletin Options

Leo Wyatt 08-01-2003 10:05 AM

All my templates are un-editted and I already changed it from the vBulletin Options, and it still won't. Any ideas?

thejeepthatcan 08-01-2003 01:48 PM

Will this work with 3.0.0 beta 4?

I don't think so; TECK is devoting his time to working on his retail script instead.

cogimo 08-03-2003 07:03 PM

www.chopperweb.net

Hialls 08-03-2003 10:32 PM

Floris 08-03-2003 10:40 PM

You are free to modify the source code to your own web site.

Hialls 08-03-2003 10:46 PM

dontpanic 08-04-2003 01:57 AM

Does anyone happen to still have a pristine copy of this hack file?

searchengine_indexer_v14.zip (for vbHl)

It went away when teckwizard.com went down earlier this month...see what happens when you don't pay attention to things for a while? :)

TIA!

Yes you are. The only place you can post the file contents is in this thread.

Regards,
Floren.

minodsy 08-04-2003 08:58 AM

if you want to look at my hacked version of vbhome:
http://www.dsy.it/

it's only in italian, and there's still a lot of work to be done (look at the number of queries :| )
please don't register to the board, there is nothing to test.

Run the article indexer in vbhlinstall.php

Hey mate, me and others have done this, BUT should you have to do it every time you make a news post? I'm guessing not as after you have installed it, you are told to delete the install file, thus not having access to the Article Indexer after you have Installed, Indexed, then deleted the Install file. The dilema I am having, and have been having since install is: I installed, posts were not populated on the front page, ran indexer, posts appeared on front page, deleted the installer as told... Then, made another news post, The body post didn't populate on the front page, the title/who posted/time all that was there, just not the body of the post... SO! I uploaded the installer, and ran the indexer again, fixing the problem. Shouldn't there be a call to this function when ever a new news post is detected? I'm sure there is, but do you know why it isn't being executed on many of our sites? Thank You again. :)

Test Site: http://www.lanx.org.au/temp/
Not going live until solution to this has been found.

TECK 08-04-2003 02:36 PM

What editor you use?

kyzen 08-05-2003 04:43 AM

for what mayne?

Looks very good :)

kyzen 08-05-2003 08:25 PM

LOL! When I said still doing it, I meant that they news isn't populating on the front page, see how there is no text in the latest news item "Good News Spammers!", I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have to run the article indexer everytime I post something in news for it to show up on the front page, did anyone figure out why it does this? I know a few of you were having the same problem. Have I missed a line in the code i had to insert, did I not install it properly, cummon peeeeeoples :p

p.s. Thanks for the praise too guys ;)

Elrum 08-06-2003 01:04 PM

I got the same prob.

I uninstalled and installed new version.

After posting for the news I have to re-run VBHLINSTALL.PHP to get it displayed.

Else there is the empty box. With the old version, everything was fine.

Plz help! :surprised:

Check the newthread editing... what editor do you use?
Make sure is a php editor, like TextPad, etc. ;)

kyzen 08-07-2003 05:38 AM

Ok, I figured out why it was doing it for me and maybe a few of you too... You dirty n00bs ;)
Cause most of you should, like me, like to test and skin stuff before putting it online, you make a /temp dir on your server, and copy the forum files there for testing... You edit the files that your supposed to like the hack asks. Now, when you make a new post in the "news" section of your forum, after installing this hack its actually inserted into to tables in the database, the default vBul, and one that was created on install of vbHome, the purpouse of this is the trimming option, if you want only 1000 characters or whatever on the front page... Anyways, some of you may be posting in your "current" forum, not your "new" forum, it's the same except for the part of code in newthread which populates the second table created by vbhome, so that why everything else appears, but the body doesn't... for me anyways... All Good Now!
Is this anyone elses problem... stupid n00bs :p

dcevoclub 08-07-2003 06:46 AM

so is anyone going to port this to v3?

I got your point what the mistake was. But I dunno what you exactly did to fix it, maybe a cause of my bad English.

Could you leave me a PM or write it here?
