Sorry not the most experienced. I not see "enable usergroup options" where is that?

This has been put on a forum that has never had any chatbox or shout box. Followed directions carefully. Still can see the chat box admincp, but not chatbox on the forum home page.

Could someone be a lot more specific than "Yeah buddy, enable usergroup options."?

Thanks

Stile2 11-25-2008 03:10 PM

Never mind I figured it out.

Stile2 11-25-2008 03:19 PM

Ok I can see it now but I am using a VBa CMPS integration page and the chat box shoves the center column to the right and off the screen.

Fix?

VBDev 11-26-2008 04:55 AM

Sorry but this doesn't mean anything... Can you reformulate yout sentence please ?

Hey is this chatbox very heavy on the server?
do you think it will run smoothly on a quad core server with 2 GB ram with a 100mbit port.

OMG, you all but made me spit my soda all over my screens. Are you serious? I think you need 16 cores to run it, or your system will flop... It's a plugin, not an application ;)

I have about 30 sites running on my one server, and even with them all posting/chatting at the same time, server load is very minimal.

And the 100Mbit port no ISP uses unless you have a T1 or straight fiber connection. It's usually 10 based.

Just loading your main page looks like the server is struggling. It has to do with packets and data. Almost certain it's their issue.

I bought my server from ecatel,
they are very known for selling offshore servers.

This is like their best server they have,
are you sure its not good enough?

Yeah, it's not good enough. I'll give you an address where you can send it, then buy a new one.

MY GOD, do you not understand sarcasm? ;)

When you say bought, you mean hosting I'm guessing, since Ecatel doesn't actually make servers, and instead they host and offer co-location. Sadly, they are horrible at hosting.

If you can run a website, you can run this plugin. The load imposed from it is not even a factor so no worries.

Never mind, this chatbox is seriously not worth the hassle of dealing with the coder or people on this thread.

Uninstalled and deleted!!!!:down::down::down:

How is it wrong to say it killed my forum? It did, database errors everywhere and then no pages would show properly as the database was so messed. I'm talking from past experience, not everyone likes every single thing. I said it killed my forum, which is true.

Anyways, if you read the readme file it CLEARLY tells you how to uninstall. And EVERY person that had issues including you didn't follow those instructions. I know this because I've installed it on about 2000+ sites for people including uninstalling, troubleshooting etc.

Reinstall the product, FOLLOW the readme, and it will uninstall fine.

1. You never posted here for help.
2. You posted in the Ajax(non evo) thread for something else, but again, not asking for help. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....postcount=1977 By that post it looks obvious you don't understand some settings as that issue is easily remedied.

It takes me all but a few minutes to set this up on any site and 100% work. And I'm not the developer. I just like the product and offer support freely. If you want help, ask. I can get it working for you if you want, just pm me info like ftp and forum account and I'll help.

And the reason I support it so much, is every forum I have it running on, user impressions (amount of time spent on forum) more then doubles. People went from a few minutes to hours.

Yeah buddy, enable usergroup options. ;)

Maybe I did do something wrong but un installing most mods means simply going to product manager clicking un install, with this it didn't work and broke my forum.

Well, I would suspect you should be asking about the cpms in the correct thread to begin with. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=169965

The coder is more laid back then anyone, so I don't see how you can assume that.

Uninstall instructions :
-------------------------------

You must carefully follow these steps if you don't want to screw up your forum when uninstalling the chatbox.

1/ Remove the chatbox files from your forum directories
2/ Uninstall the MGC Chatbox Evo product
3/ You're done with the uninstall

Lets get a few things straight bud.....

First off, you should be doing backups of the database to begin with. If not, there is nobody to blame but yourself for poor administration. Of course that's also how I learned way way back when I first started with VB. I installed all this crap, had no experience with it, messed it all up, had to start over. Learn from your mistakes. You claim the chat messed it up, I'll challenge you to prove that because I'm 99% certain it was user error. The chat makes it's own tables, and doesn't affect vb's. Somewhere, somehow, you probably did a boo boo and you admit it by saying you just clicked uninstall and never read the readme. ;)

And for your second reply. Uninstalling mods doesn't simply mean click uninstall. Almost every plugin/mod comes with a readme. How did you install the product if you didn't read that file? ;) Because in that readme is the install info and uninstall info. Don't get me wrong, I hate reading those long ass files sometimes (more then a few lines = long haha) but the developers make them for a reason and I also messed up the chatbox and had forum errors way back when I first started using the earlier mgc chats. The time it took you to post your reply , is the same time it takes to read the uinstall info.

Do yourself a favor. Start doing db backups with any changes. It's so worth it in the end. It gives you more flexability.

KevinL 11-26-2008 03:10 PM

I don't know...I've had to uninstall this and install it again a few times and haven't had a problem yet.

It's by far the best chatbox I've found...

Yeah as you can see guys the next version won't be 1.1.1 or 1.2.1 but 2.0.0 !

This means that some part of the software have been totally rewritten in the upcoming version. This time it's not the PHP but the javascript !

As stated long ago, I add to modify the chatbox js code in order to apply the new vB ajax way of use based on YUI syntax. And here you go ! I have had time to do it and it's working well !!

This migration will lead to major enhancements in the version following the coming one ! BE PREPARED :D

Back to the subject ! So development is going pretty well, there is still one feature to be moved to YUI : the dialog box. Then there will be still few other bugs to fix (remaining one in the list) and perhaps some other additionnal features as well and the release will be ready for ... beta testing !
As many changes have been made to the javascript core of the chatbox I want true beta testers not just users that want to see how the new version looks like ! As a consequence, the beta phasis will certainly be a bit longer this time in order to give users the time to test all features of the chatbox (not only the one they use frequently) in order to make in-depth feedbacks of the new release !

So hold on to your keyboards, baby is coming :D

As Always, YOU THE MAN! :D

I've installed the script...but I can't get it to display on my forum. I know on the readme it tells you how to fix this...but when looking for '$search_text = '$forumhome_markread_script';' I can't find it to replace with $search_text = '$chatbox_forumhome'; any help please?

VBDev 11-27-2008 06:00 PM

There is a mistake in the readme, it doesn't start with $search_text but it's $find.

Hope that help ?

ScottCM 11-27-2008 06:05 PM

Yeah I managed to find it...did both changes still doesn't display lol. Any ideas?

masterweb 11-27-2008 07:14 PM

Is there any live demo to see it in action?, or maybe can someone using this mod tell me his / her URL to take a look of it?. Thanks in advance :D

Alright I have it displaying correctly now! Only problem now is I can't post anything on it, the little circle loading thing is just constantly turning round.

mattpist 11-28-2008 06:46 PM

i have a minor problem, it seems that the chatbox is being inserted below my thread list description and above the thread list itself. ideally, id like the thread list description to be below the chatbox (and just above the thread list). yet i can't seem to find where in my template code the chatbox is being inserted. can anyone help me with this? look here to see an example:

http://squattheplanet.com/forumdisplay.php?f=99

note that the forum sections' description is above the chatbox, instead of being down by the "new thread" button over the list of topics.

any help would be much appreciated!

jediteknoman 11-28-2008 10:11 PM

Whereabouts is the "Help file" for the chatbox?

At the moment I'm seeing a mixture of English and French wording... here's an example.

Quote:

General help
The MGC Chatbox Evo is really easy to use

You can :

Send chats : you just have to enter the text in the dedicated input field and then to validate it by pushing the return key ou by clicking on the OK button.
Format the chats : once you un-collapse the chatbox formatting toolbar by clicking on the BBCode button, you have access to different formatting options for your chats. You can format a chat by selecting a part (or the totality) of it and then select one of the buttons/list. You can also add empty formatting tags by selecting nothing and clicking one of the buttons/menu thus allowing you to add the chat text afterwards between these tags.*
Access to the different channels : you can have access to different channels restricted to only some usergroupds or for specifics use of the chatbox. The different channels are accessible from the buttons on the left of the chatbox.*
Edit your chats (or others chats) : the edition of a chat can be done by a simple double-click on it.*
Use specific commands : some commands can be accessible in the chatbox depending on the will of the administrator(s) of your forum. These commands let you execute specific actions of formatting, management, etc... You will herebelow the information on the command which are accessible to you. You must notice that you are not forced to use the command prefixes (/command_name) when you use them in the channel they are attached to (except in the general channel).*
* : Depending on the settings chosen by the administrator(s) of the forum, you might not have access to all these features.

Is there a way to put it just to the one language of our chosing? Or can we edit that? Cheers

There have been reports on problems with utf-8 in this thread, but those seem to be fixed. Unfortunately utf-8 is not working for me. When I switch the language to utf-8, the shoutbox won' t be displayed in IE7. It works fine in FF3.

In IE7 you are able to view the archive, but small and full-size shoutbox won' t be loaded.

chatbox timeout is no longer working after i upgraded to 1.1.0. also some of the new database tables weren't created during the upgrade so I had to do them manually. Is the timeout also related to a missing database table?

To achieve this I think you have to follow the style issue how to in the chatbox readme even if you don't really have a style issue but more a chatbox placement concern :)

Hum you mean the inactive function ? I have tested it recently and it does (on the current up-to-be-released version).

I am having issues with my 2 other channels, this only happens when i sticky a chat in gen channel, it seems to stop the other channels working and no chats are displayed, i turned off the sticky feature in user groups and removed the stuck chat all working fine now, any cure for this?

In your AdminCP

vBulletin Options > General Settings > Add Template Name in HTML Comments

Is this set to Yes or No

jerx 12-01-2008 09:52 AM

The "Add Template Name in HTML Comments" is set to no. I have turned it on, but then the shoutbox will even be empty on iso encoding. Therefore I turned it off again.
