Sorry but I tried to read all 206 pages of this thread. But it got read old fast. I just have one question and I am hoping I get the answer I want.

Does vbHome (lite) 4.2 work with Version 3.0.0 Beta 4?

Cal Poly Forum 07-19-2003 04:19 PM

Seems that everyone is getting this problem, I can only think that
there is a line of code that is not executing... I got that Invalid
SQL error aswell, then it went away?! Go figure. I haven't look at
the hack in any great detail because I have been too busy skinning
and designing my new site, but from what I remember seeing on
installation, this hack adds a few tables to the database. I'm not
sure but this hack doesn't read from the vB db does it? It reads
from the tables that it creates? So for somereason when a new
piece of news is written, it make a duplicate of the post in it's own
tables and the front page reads from there? So for some reason
the body of the post isn't getting populated in the home page
tables on creation. Maybe something to do with the "display length"
of the front page news? All speculation and guessing, but this
prob doesn't seem to be getting any suggestions :p Just trying to
get the ball rolling.

Dalius 07-21-2003 03:56 PM

Oversight, I had your error. I fixed it by going to AdminCP --> vBulletin Options --> FrontPage and set my settings.

It went away then.

Hey everyone. I have a new issue.

When I try to login from http://www.winsector.com/index.php (vBhome), it redirects me to vB (http://www.winsectors.net) saying I logged in. That is ok, but when I go back to vBhome, i am not logged in.

You can uninstall when you run the installation script.

vBHL is a great piece of software but it will not work with vB 3!
Please read the posts before your reply. Teck is working on vPublish, a great portal system integraqted with hivemail and vB.

I tried to install it and got this message, I am new to this! What could I have done wrong.

I'm not totally sure how to install these files but the way I did it was to type in the link to the file and click go. That is how I got that message

Strange, you shouldn't be getting that error.

Well, open up the vbhlinstall.php, go to line 7, find ./global.php, and replace with global.php

Should work now.

trued 07-27-2003 08:37 PM

Quick question: How to i edit the: Web Site Quick Links and Friends and Affiliates.

Also is it really a necessity to have this image on the bottom: http://www.w3.org/Icons/valid-xhtml10.gif with the link...it takes me to a site im not quite sure what it's about....it's very strange...and it's talking about my site?? I don't understand it.

deathemperor 07-28-2003 05:49 AM

I think I'll kiss it when it works with vb 3 :D

mccollin 07-28-2003 06:25 AM

I am in the process of converting a site that was based on phpBB to vB. The forums are moved, but I need to redo my portal pages. This script looks like a possibility, but I need to verify if it can do the things I need.

* multiple portal pages for a single vB installation (example, a car website might have a main portal page for its home, but then have a Ford page, a Chevy page, etc... )
* selecting more than one news forum for news on one page (this merges the news from the forums selected into one date sorted stream for the news on that page - example, the Ford page might have taurus, mustang, and explorer news forums included in Ford news.
* list of most popular threads in a forum
* list of most recently added threads in a forum
* list of most recently update threads in a forum
* ability to do multiple lists of news headlines per page.

What I need to do is currently in action at http://pdaphonehome.com/phpBB2/i700faq.php and http://pdaphonehome.com

Would this hack be a good base for me to recreate these pages? I don't mind making changes to it to get what I need, I just need a solid foundation.

I found out why i got the error it was stupididty on my part. But I'm still confused about the user friendlyness of this prog.

I can't figure out (probably cause it's 3 in the morning and I been going at it for 3 days str8 with little sleep) how to customize the page.

I'm good with html but php fries my brain.

Try searching for its current content in your templates.

The w3.org image is to show that your webpage is valid XHTML 1.0 transitional, which means a lot if you're a perfect coder (although making your site STRICT instead of transitional is much better, for me anyways ;))

You can simply customize the main template, which should be the first template in the Home Page Templates set.

Remove the ./ in that line.

cindyd 07-28-2003 07:58 PM

Hi Gary:

I removed the './' but the error still comes up.....that's the part you meant, right?

I was left with this:

PHP Code:

require_once(  . $adminpath '/config.php' );

Gary King 07-28-2003 08:01 PM

Replace the line with this:

PHP Code:

require_once( 'admin/config.php' );

cindyd 07-28-2003 08:10 PM

OK, I did that, now I am getting the same error message about this line:

PHP Code:

require_once( './' $adminpath '/db_' $dbservertype '.php' );

Gary King 07-28-2003 08:31 PM

Replace with
PHP Code:

require_once("admin/db_".$dbservertype.".php");

cindyd 07-28-2003 08:43 PM

I've done that, but now the page looks very strange.

The screen shot is of the forum "main page" I guess, and the second shot is of my private forum area.

The banners are missing, the templates I have are wrong, the link buttons at the top are wrong.

Do I have to make these adjustments, within the templates I uploaded? They were all custom.

cindyd 07-28-2003 09:01 PM

I have a private section on my board and I see under Latest Forum Discussions, threads from that board are showing! Yikes.

cindyd 07-28-2003 09:49 PM

I had to uninstall this, would someone tell me what I have to do to get my templates back the way they were?

I reuploaded the template.php that I had saved, but that didn't do it.

How do I delete all those "home" templates?
