Teck: There is a problem I think in the latest readmefirst.htm install instructions, I am running 2.3.0 and Step one says

"Open template.php file (located in /admin/forum folder)"

This folder doesn't exist :) I think you meant /admin/

Well anyway I've either got it wrong, its a vB 3.0 thing or I've helped you out a little,

Thanks for the great work

I installed everything and it all went down smoothly except when I went to open my index.php thru my web browser. I got the following errors;

Quote:

Database error in vbHome 2.3.0: Invalid SQL: SELECT COUNT(*) AS total FROM thread WHERE forumid IN( ) AND dateline>1056526894 mysql error: You have an error in your SQL syntax near ') AND dateline>1056526894 ' at line 4 mysql error number: 1064 Date: Wednesday 25th of June 2003 09:56:37 AM Script: http://www.shroomsinbrazil.org/forum/ Referer: http://www.shroomsinbrazil.org/
I checked the global.php in my root folder that I uploaded and I did put the correct url to forum/admin and everything is correct. Could anyone identify my problem?

Appreciated, Thanks,
gl

Hi Teck

Great hack. It works fine, though I have an issue with my newly updated 2.3 VB. Can't post a new thread in my forum, after I altered the newthread.php. Here's the code I used (just the altered part, lines 280 or so):

$DB_site->query("INSERT INTO post (postid,threadid,title,username,userid,dateline,at tachmentid,pagetext,allowsmilie,showsignature,ipad dress,iconid,visible) VALUES (NULL,'$threadid','".addslashes(htmlspecialchars($ subject))."','".addslashes($postusername)."','$bbu serinfo[userid]','".time()."','$attachmentid','".addslashes($mess age)."','$allowsmilie','$signature','$ipaddress',' $iconid','1')");
$postid=$DB_site->insert_id();

if (in_array($foruminfo['forumid'], explode(',', $articleforum))) {
$DB_site->query("UPDATE thread SET articleid=$postid WHERE threadid=$threadid");
}
indexpost($postid,1);

// update forum stuff
if ($visible==1) {
$DB_site->query("UPDATE forum SET replycount=replycount+1,threadcount=threadcount+1, lastpost='".time()."',lastposter='".addslashes($po stusername)."' WHERE forumid IN ($foruminfo[parentlist])");

Any idea where I've gone wrong??

And, what's the best way to show index.php on a front page, where the front page is framed? (If I add a frame, and have index.php show in it, when someone clicks on a link, it stays in that tiny frame).

My board is at www.russbo.com/main.html

Thanks!

As of august 1st, the teckwizards.com web site will be closed.
I think, so far, the site played a good role on helping people to solve their problems with vbHome (lite) as well to get cool information and tips related to PHP and MySQL.

So, if you want to download any hacks or mods for the current free software, now is the time to do it.

We will start focusing from now on our retail script, vPublish and we want to make sure our time is devoted fully to it.
It's a great project that will make many web developers happy.

Here there are our goals:
1. Create a rock solid product, query efficient and fully reliable on any server platform.
vPublish will be a very flexible piece of software that will incorporate all options a busy webmaster ever wanted, in order to make a web site easy to manage online.
2. Create a solid alliance with HiveMail web e-mail product.
We will contact the HiveMail product manager, in order to develop a close relationship with their product, since we want to make sure our products are purchased together.

I want to personally thank all users for their help and devotion to our little community and I want to promise you that you will not be disappointed with our new retail product.

Feel free to make any suggestions or comments.

I hope the support for the new product is a lot better than it was for the old project. As long as the price they are asking for it is more than an owned vb license, I'll wait for vbulletin's front end.

TECK 06-29-2003 10:40 AM

vContent will probably be the same or more...

I doubt very seriously that they would charge as much for it as they do for an owned vB license. And their support is impeccable. Yours is good if the questions we ask aren't "simple" in your eyes. I'm still waiting on the birthday fix you said you would give.

TECK 06-29-2003 10:17 PM

Rest assured that a paid license will be impecably supported. :)

I already am :) It won't be free for download to licensed vBulletin members :D

I've just installed vBhome and am enjoying using it very much. I have a minor problems however.

I've gone into the database and edited the paths for the smilies because I use BB Code and smiles on many other pages and needed the full path in the database.

I now use your hack and find that my smilies are now showing up. upon checking the image it's pointing to the following:
Code:

http://domain.com/http://domain.com/forum/images/smilies/happy.gif
I'm guessing that your file must be adding forums url onto the beginning of the path, is there anyway I can disable this?

Whatever you do don't critise on teckwizards.com because you'll be banned :rolleyes:

What do you mean banned? None of the members are banned, since we believe in free expression.
Sorry, someone did banned you but it was not me. I removed the ban and here it is the answer:

I installed your nice portal but now i have some questions:

How do i post news to the site?
And is the only way to edit the site template through PHPAdmin?
And how do i edit its colors?

cinq 07-02-2003 02:25 AM

You are supposed to have a forum for news and annoucements and what not.
Whatever is posted there will be 'published' on the index ( front page news ).

Templates can be changed via your vB AdminCP.

Editing of colors mainly in the templates too , look under home_headinclude template.

Sulaiti 07-02-2003 09:41 AM

can I Install it for vBulletin Version 3.0.0 Beta 4

pad 07-02-2003 07:23 PM

yay, i got it working ;)

but i have a few questions:
i noticed the site using the default style. is there a way to make it use another template?
and where (what template) can i change my site width to 800 pixels? (cause now its smaller)

~Pad

hass 07-06-2003 07:48 AM

for some reason the news articles it pulls out are displayed from the oldest to the newest.. whilst i obviously only wanna pull out the latest 5 or whatever.

has anyone else experienced this?

Celtic_Mad 07-06-2003 11:59 PM

Where it says {imageshome} to fill in in the replacements part. What do i fill in there? On the index.php page it's not giving me the button pictures, check it out at www.timtalk.net/index.php
Thanks

same build up of columns
same box's on the left
even in the same order.

But the code can't be the same as its a different software platform. I dont' believe you can copyright features and structure ;)

Cal Poly Forum 07-12-2003 10:57 PM

Having a problem.

On http://www.calpolyforum.com several of the images are not showing up. I checked the directory and it seems to match where teh images are located.

Also, how exactly do we work on our page? I have no clue on how to add new things on my page.
I am trying to members login section, a calendar, a poll , recent articles , and a news section on the middle.
