mysql error: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') AND dateline>1054514082' at line 3

mysql error number: 1064

and I followed EVERY THING step by step... the only thing i didn't do was replacements

Hi, I asked this question over at Teck's forums, haven't heard back yet...so I'm hoping a few users here may know the answer :

Quote:

Open template.php file (located in /admin/forum folder) and perform the code change listed below.
Shouldn't that be /forum/admin ?

Quote:

[ROOT] - upload here your vbHome (lite) index.php, backend.php and global.php files ---[FORUM] - upload here your vbHome (lite) printarticle.php and vBulletin newthread.php files ------[ADMIN] - upload here your vbHome (lite) vbhlinstall.php and vBulletin template.php files ------[IMAGES] - upload here your arrow.gif, article.gif, articleemail.gif and articleprint.gif files ---------[POLLS] - upload here your bar.gif, bar-bk.gif, bar-l.gif and bar-r.gif files
Isn't the "forum" directory the root directory for the forum? Is that saying with the index.php, backend.php and global.php I should put those in a directory outside of the directory my forum is in? If not then what is the "forum" directory? There is no forum directory inside the root of where vB is installed...

And it says to upload printarticle.php and newthread.php but in the download there is no newthread.php in the forum directory, only printarticle.php.

Could I get some clarification here? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks :)

Ok, I understand this now...

It installs a new portal index at www.yourdomain.com not at www.yourdomain.com/forum

That's where all of my confusion was...

So you HAVE to install the vB portal at the root of the forum directory?

You can't install in the same directory?

The reason why I thought this was because I came from InvisionBoard and the invision portal can be installed in the same directory, for instance at www.yourdomain.com/forum

Well, the gods know I am not really qualified to help anyone here, but I'll try.

Poison Fly - I don't really know what you are asking. I made a post in my 'site news' forum and it shows up, with the icon, subject and body of the post on the index.php in my main/root directory. All I did was set options to 'yes' and save them in vbulletin options.

Mirri - Go to vbulletin Options, front page and make a change, then save. Verify your articles forum ID matches the one you have set in vbulletin options and then run the vbhlinstall.php and reindex your articles.

dvd4arab - I suspect if you want a style like vbportal or vbhome, you'll have to make changes to templates or php files.

GXON - go to vbulletin options and front page, make a change and then save your changes. That fixed the problem for me.

Future - It is forum/admin -- that is apparently reversed. upload the index.php, global.php and backend.php into your main/root directory, not under the forum directory. You can actually install those 3 files under a subdirectory though, but just not in a directory where you already have an index.php or it won't work right.

Well, don't hold me on it, I tried. Hopefully it helped.

well im having a problem logging in, i type my info, and hit go, and it brings me back to the page and im not logged in, *and i did hit refresh*

KamuiX 06-03-2003 02:18 PM

Just a quick (hopefully easy to answer) question:

How do you get the news content to display? The headlines and other info show up fine, but none of the content...

(I probably overlooked something, but figured I should ask while I'm checking things out.)

KamuiX 06-03-2003 04:32 PM

It was an easy fix - just missed the indexer on the vbhlinstall.

Oops!

Blindchild02 06-03-2003 04:49 PM

well i still need a fix to my problem... someone :(

GXON.matt 06-05-2003 12:07 PM

Miratos... Actually the problem was is that I didn't do what I should have done... did the replacements...XD

Now... does any one know where to edit the poll options?

csidlernet 06-06-2003 07:01 AM

No Offence but you should of spent more time developing and editing.. I've found Numerous problems with the Homepage. The person really has to do a lot of template editing for This.. I May post some upgrades which fixes that problem if you like?? great hack though

RDX1 06-07-2003 01:41 AM

How do i use this thing?
I installed it, it seems like it doesn't have much features, how do you use this thing? I mean:

How do you get the skins to work?

How do you get the images to show up? I did the template replace

Is there any more admin features besides the small admin under admin options?

How do we add sponsors?

Our site has the same skin as http://tech-heaven.com - How do we get it to look like that?

enis 06-07-2003 10:58 PM

is it possibly to move some of the boxs to the right hand side with this?

mariannet 06-07-2003 11:56 PM

Hi there

Love this and it works ;o)

I have a password protected forum and I do not want these posts to show up on "Latest Forum Discussions". Is there any way to avoid this?

RDX1 06-08-2003 03:42 AM

Should be an option to shut it off..

Anyways, what about my questions

mariannet 06-08-2003 04:42 AM

Hi there

You can turn off showing the latest post function, but not just for a selected forum, it's either all or none ;o/

Since Teck isn't answering, I'll volunteer:

Please re-read Teck's description of what this hack actually does:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...380#post234380

1.) How do you get the skins to work?

The "skins" in this thing is merely the home_headinclude template, where you can change colors ... to create a different "skin", you merely create a new vbulletin style and just change the colors in home_headinclude template to what you like .... also note that you can change almost every aspect of the index page by modifying the home_* templates...

2.) Is there any more admin features besides the small admin under admin options?

No. Except for the Frontpage options in the VB Control Panel, this is not like vBPortal or phpNuke where there is a reviews section, downloads section or any other section that is not built into vBulletin ... it is merely an index page that organizes vBulletin content in a CMS-like manner...

3.) How do we add sponsors?

Look for the "Enable Advertisements" in the Frontpage section vBulletin main options page and choose Yes, then edit the home_advertisement template to put whatever ads, links or sponsors you like.

4.) Our site has the same skin as http://tech-heaven.com - How do we get it to look like that?

You have the same skin yet you want it to look like that? Confusing little statement there, but I think I know what you actually wanted to ask:

Anyway, see what colors they are using, and study what header/footer format they used, and modify your home_headinclude, home_header and home_footer templates accordingly ... to make this a "skin", create a new vbulletin style and do the changes there... (or you can just ask them what their templates contain) ... you may want to modify it a bit, of course, lest you make your page a complete copycat of tech-heaven :D

If you wanna see how much you can customize vBhome, check my site...

Any more questions?

Run the install file (vbhlinstall.php) for vBHome Lite again, and pay close attention to the top menu options ... click on the link called "Article Indexer" or something... I think it was mentioned in the readme file ;)

As for your problem with regards to the layout, that will have more to do with your HTML skills rather than vBHome itself ;) Mess around with the templates - it isn't that hard...

Here's a hint tho: tech-heaven's main table uses a fixed width ... go from there...

Editing templates is always the fun part in vBulletin ...

RDX1 06-09-2003 12:24 AM

DO i have to run the article indexer each time i post news?

RDX1 06-09-2003 12:35 AM

As for changing the width, how the heck can i do that when there are so many css files, i have gone through almost all of them and still no luck, i did get the header though

RDX1 06-09-2003 03:56 AM

<a href="http://www.techchats.com/" target="_blank">http://www.techchats.com/</a>

Why won't the article icon show up now

Crinos 06-09-2003 04:46 AM

First of all, no offense, but you whine too much ...

Anyway,

1.) DO i have to run the article indexer each time i post news?

NO ... There is a readme with that vBHome installation ... readit... it tells you the only instances where you need to run it.

2.) As for changing the width, how the heck can i do that when there are so many css files, i have gone through almost all of them and still no luck, i did get the header though

First of all, there is only ONE CSS, and that's in home_headinclude ... second, the CSS file does not control the width of your tables - they only control your fonts colors, font sizes, table colors, etc. To modify your table width you go to your "home" template, or any other template where the table width is specified. Are you sure you know what you're doing?

3.) Why won't the article icon show up now

Maybe coz you removed it when you modified your templates? View the original template for home_articlebit, and search for this line:
Code:

<a href="$bburl/showthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&amp;threadid=$article[threadid]">
<img src="{imageshome}/article.gif" alt="Read article" class="imgbordermiddle" height="14" width="53" />
</a>

That's the line you removed when you edited your templates, so it's your fault they're not there ;) Put it back in if you like - where to put it is up to you, figure it out...

Oh, and by the way, YOU'RE WELCOME :)

RDX1 06-09-2003 06:03 AM

I read the readme, i'm not dumb

I got it working fine, and i removed the post icon since it wouldn't work, plus takes up too much space, so i'm getting used to it.

I pm'ed a guy at tech-forums.net and he helped me, told me how to get it to work

======================

As for do i know what i am doing, i know html very well, but do i know the vbhome lite files? No, so i guess i don't know what i am doing..

And yes i specified the widt and it didn't resize it, but now i got it to work.

Crinos 06-09-2003 07:32 AM

Glad to see you didn't need my help :)

You might wanna thank Teck tho ;)

RDX1 06-09-2003 08:02 PM
