vbHome (lite) 4.2 Released
[high]BEFORE YOU ASK A QUESTION, SEARCH THE THREAD OR THE SUPPORT FORUMS.
[high]I will not answer anymore to any questions in this thread, that's why we have forums.[/high]
CANNOT GET THE LATEST VERSION? CLEAR YOUR BROWSER TEMP FILES.
[high]Why did you scrolled down without reading the copyright??[/high] Scroll up and read the copyright. Thanks. :)

DPoole 04-30-2003 01:23 AM

193 pages is a lot to read and search does not work on a single thread unless someone knows something i dont.
So im pretty sure if everyone who was stucj had to read 193 pages then Vbull would not be where it is today.

I see from the other side as well - answering questions that are already been either sorted or fixed - so maybe dead posts which aint relevant to the hacks should be deleted thus lowering the posts and making it easier to find stuff withing a thread.

DigitalDesktops 04-30-2003 01:38 AM

There is a "Search this Thread" Hack at the bottom of this page. :)

DPoole 04-30-2003 02:01 AM

LOL neat in all the time ive been on vbull i never even knew this existed.Goes to show we dont know everything dont it :)

When did that appear ?

Could of used that when i was doing the Store hack - wot with all those pages - i was forced to read and every one :(

Cheers anyway DigitalDesktops

@Tigga i am a begginer here and if you wish to help me you can explain to me how to make the images showing like image not like a link?

without looking through the prior 2887 threads, if i remember correctly you have to allow HTML in whichever forum(s) you're displaying as articles on your main page (prolly your news forum) to display bb tag info correctly..i might be mistaken but give it a rip and see if that works for ya

TonTon 04-30-2003 08:48 PM

fixed

Harken 04-30-2003 09:32 PM

OK i know...ive read through the "readme file" a million times...and i know its something stupid..but the home page did not take my forums style...it looks like the original "vbulletin forum" sorry..i know its something simple

this is my test home page (home.udgnet.com/index.php)
i got the style fixed..kinda...but the images dont display.

deepdark 04-30-2003 09:36 PM

Here is the solution for the IMG code....

Version: vbHomeLite 4.2

resolve issue with no bbimagecode-parsing:
Files to modify: vbHomeLite 'global.php'

------------------------------------------------------------------
1) find in 'global.php':
------------------------------------------------------------------

function codeparse( $bbcode , $allowsmilie=0 )
{
global $allowhtml,$activebbcode,$activesmilie;

$dohtml = $allowhtml;
$dobbcode = $activebbcode;
$dosmilies = $activesmilie;

return makecodeparse( $bbcode , $dohtml , $dosmilies , $dobbcode );
}
------------------------------------------------------------------
replace with:
------------------------------------------------------------------
function codeparse( $bbcode , $allowsmilie=0 )
{
global $allowhtml,$activebbcode,$activesmilie;

$dohtml = $allowhtml;
$dobbcode = $activebbcode;
$dobbimagecode = $activebbcode;
$dosmilies = $activesmilie;

return makecodeparse( $bbcode , $dohtml , $dosmilies , $dobbcode, $dobbimagecode );
}

------------------------------------------------------------------
2) find in 'global.php':
------------------------------------------------------------------

function makecodeparse( $bbcode , $dohtml , $dosmilies , $dobbcode )

------------------------------------------------------------------
replace with:
------------------------------------------------------------------

function makecodeparse( $bbcode , $dohtml , $dosmilies , $dobbcode, $dobbimagecode )

------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

Now set in admincp -> vBulletin Options -> [Front Page]:
'Enable BB Code in article?' to yes.

Hope that helps!!
Please correct me, if I'm wrong.

Not to be rude, but did you even read what I quoted from the first post in this thread? Specifically "I will not answer anymore to any questions in this thread, that's why we have forums.". If you have a problem with the script I'm sure you would get some help if you posted on Teck's forums.

deepdark 05-01-2003 05:04 PM

Personally that's not the way I would do things - that's just me though. Considering the fact that Teck is releasing his product here for free though, I don't think his request that support be handled on his own forums is too much to ask, and I'm sure he has his reasons for this.

where's the support forums... give me a link

Andrew111888 05-03-2003 02:33 PM

For some reason when I go to my index, it says there is an article, it has a box, but the article is not displayed. Why is this?

leviw 05-04-2003 05:05 PM

I'd like to take the vbhome sidebar with sponsor, greeting, etc and copy it to my entier vbulletin. Every page with a few exceptions if possible would have the sidebar on it.

So, as users browse the forum (not just vbhome) they would still see the sponsor, welcome, recent articles, etc.

I imagine it will take playing with the templates a good bit. Any advice?

Version: vbHomeLite 4.2

Files to modify: vbHomeLite 'global.php'

(bunch of crap)

Hope that helps!!

No, that doesn't work. I myself am having the problem with replacements not actually replacing {imageshome} with the right stuff. It appears as many other people have too, and it also appears as the owner of vBulletin home lite just ignores the problem--rudely.

Shawnn 05-04-2003 08:25 PM

I'm a little green on this and I'm having trouble with step 4 could someone give me a little more deatail onthis step. I'm in the control pannel and have selected Replacements > Add
and don't under stand what to do next.

STEP 4
Open vBulletin Admin Control Panel and a new {imageshome} replacement variable to your full website URL, like that:
Replacements > Add

and enter the following information:REPLACEMENT SET
(your choice here)
CODE TO FIND
{imageshome}
CODE TO INSERT
forum/images

Change the code to insert to match your forum location. Save the replacement variable.

!!! 05-04-2003 08:29 PM

Here's how you fix it. When it's all said and done you have to go to admin CP vB lite homepage options things and find the field that asks about the template set. Assign it one that (still) exists.

I believe it's set as default to 0.

Shawnn 05-04-2003 10:36 PM

I managed to stubble by and get it working and get buy the below error

Invalid SQL:
SELECT COUNT(*) AS total
FROM thread
WHERE forumid IN( ) AND dateline>1051847882.

Might be a good idea to note that in the instructions that you should turn on all the options in the vbhome section in the control panel to get past that error. It took me two hours to read and find a post to fix it.

How do I edit the header so the I can make the home page look more like the forums format?

TECK 05-05-2003 11:43 PM

Well, I assumed everyone will set at least one option before they use the script. ;)
About the header, there is a tutorial on the support forums.

Fatal error: Failed opening required './global.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /home/vbulletin/index.php on line 10

Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?

When you ran the install, did you execute the articles indexer? My problem is I have to do this every time I add a new article. Any thoughts?

Hey, he did very well by posting a violation of the copyright.
If you complain is probably because you do/think the same.
vbHome (lite) is free to use ONLY if you do NOT alter the copyright notice and follow the conditions listed in the first post related to copyright.

Did you removed the vBulletin copyright? You did not. Why?
So what gives the right to someone to do it with my script? Nothing.
You don't like the conditions, don't use the script. Simple.

Yes because I think tattle-tales are annoying, that must mean I am doing everything they are tattling on. What a great and noble theory!

I don't even understand what this means. And for the record, I installed vBulletin lite. The copywrite is still there, but I don't actually use it because it sucks. mYvBindex is much better, anyway. Plus, you can't just alter an already copywrited material to spice it up and then put a copywrite on it yourself--as well as try to force people to keep the links you stick in it. If I ever do use this hack, I will probably remove your copywrite because it is not legit.

leviw 05-07-2003 09:11 PM

Heh, snerts. Whaddya gonna do?

Anyway, the site has probably been reported to VB HQ for missing copyright info a dozen times by now, as it should be.

Still a great hack, Teck. Cant wait to see what you develop next. =)

As a suggestion, there are a few really common mistakes people make on the installation. You may consider updating the installation help page to include instructions on resolving more of them, if nothing else just to save yourself some trouble telling them to search the thread.

Juch 05-07-2003 11:37 PM

HELP, I installed the hack according to what I read, and in the end I dont have the control options in the VBulletin Admin and my home looks like this

someone please help me, you can add me to MSN. => mjuch@home.nl

Mr_Johnson 05-08-2003 09:43 AM

Umm not sure what I did to my site, but everything was working fine and now when I post new articles only the subject shows :( I had installed quick reply and tombot; but I have a seperate forum accsessing the same forum db and even when I post articles using that its the same thing. Any help here?

As well, when I click the subject the thread opens fine and its all there as it should be :nervous:

I wasn't going to respond to this, but I think I need to clear a few things up here.

Teck spent a lot of time and energy putting together this hack and continues to improve on it with every new release. It is stable and has a lot of the same things the other Home Page hacks have and at a fraction of what they are going for (which is free, actually). All he asks in return is to leave the copyright there. Is that really too much to ask? vBulletin does it and do you complain to them? We here at vb.org are a community. And communities watch out for each other and take care of their own. That's all I was doing. It's not "tattling" as you call it. (That's a term for children, by the way.) It is merely righting a potential wrong. If that doesn't set well with you, then I'm sorry, but learn to deal with it. 'Nuff said!

First, your remarks show how ignorant you are related to PHP code.
Second, half of vBulletin team are admin or mod members of my web site.
Go figure if they will allow me to post something illegal related to copyright or vBulletin software.

Juch 05-11-2003 11:20 AM

I found the solution to my problem. It was related to a fault in the php.ini

It is fixed now, however I have a question, is it possible to have the latest discussions on the center of the page, above the articles? Or do I have to mod it myself?

Neo 05-12-2003 12:19 AM

Floren, I got a idea. Why not have in the options a option for each side bar thing to have it on the left or right side, for more customizing
