I've now read this thread again.... I see people asking the same as I.. but none of those posting a solution...
Perhaps better wait for the new update as I read the code was to be redone anyways. Thanks for the support Oblivion Knight!

gmarik 06-03-2003 04:30 PM

Adding the AP things. Only the first part.

Code:

// Step 2
if ($install=="2") {

$DB_site->query("INSERT INTO settinggroup VALUES (126, 'Journal Pro', 126)");
$DB_site->query("INSERT INTO setting VALUES (NULL,126, 'Mini Calendar', 'valid', '1', 'Do you wish to have a mini calendar with links to posts?', 'yesno', 1)");
$DB_site->query("INSERT INTO setting VALUES (NULL,126, 'WYSIWG panel', 'valid', '1', 'Do you wish to have a WYSIWG panel when submiting / editing an entry?', 'yesno', 1)");
$DB_site->query("INSERT INTO setting VALUES (NULL,126, 'Short / Full Entrys', 'valid', '1', 'Do you wish to have short article linkinking to the full artcile?', 'yesno', 1)");
$DB_site->query("INSERT INTO setting VALUES (NULL,126, 'Random photo', 'valid', '1', 'Do you wish to have a random photo in your journal profile?', 'yesno', 1)");
$DB_site->query("INSERT INTO setting VALUES (NULL,126, 'Archive / Static HTML', 'valid', '1', 'Do you wish to have an archive by months and create static html from php files?', 'yesno', 1)");

echo "Adding field to vBulletin Options....<br>";
echo "..<b>Journal Professinal Settings have been added successfully!</b><br><br>";
echo "<b><a href='$PHP_SELF?install=3'>[Continue Installation]</a></b>";
}

bandersen 06-03-2003 05:08 PM

da, spasibo boljshoe? :-) "yes, I wish to have".... and perhaps able to register on tomorrows date / coming weeks too....

gmarik 06-04-2003 05:34 AM

Pozaluista :o) The problem is - don't have the time and knowledge. We defiantely need somebody, who could become the big remaker of this great hack.

Intex 06-04-2003 07:08 AM

I believe Amiloo said she would be looking at it, but I guess its not one of her priorities, especially after joining the vB.org team.

Ryangel 06-04-2003 02:05 PM

Will be working on it again, starting sometime this week. Stay tuned but no promises. busy busy busy ...

bandersen 06-05-2003 09:32 PM

Great... I wish someone would include the features mentioned here. If you need a tester PM me.

Crinos 06-12-2003 04:08 AM

Hmmm, I made mine like that by just replacing this in journal.php:

PHP Code:

/*
if ($bbuserinfo[userid]==0) {
  show_nopermission();
}
*/

with this:

PHP Code:

if ($bbuserinfo[userid]==0) {

show_nopermission();

Basically just uncomment it :D

redd 06-12-2003 02:20 PM

I hope this still works with vB3.

Koutaru 06-12-2003 03:35 PM

It's not, vB3's coding has been completely reconfigured.

Ninth Dimension 06-24-2003 11:42 PM

installed, very cool, thank you.

PhoenixBB 06-25-2003 06:00 PM

Has anyone got the vbMoods hack working with this yet? If so how?

Those who had a problem with smilies not rendering (other vbcode tags are ok for me except img and smilies, but I don't have imags on the board) did you fix it. How??

Someone mentioned back on page 7 they knew how to limit entries per day, but they didn't appear to follow up with the 'how to'. Anyone?

Has the upgrade been abandoned??

Thanx!

PhoenixBB 06-26-2003 09:44 PM

Sigh, it's getting like a ghost town in here. :(

Okay, I got the mood widget on the 'journal_newentrybit' template, and a 'currently playing' text box also. Looks very nice too. Of course it doesn't work, but you knew I was gonna say that didn't you? :P

I'm not unveiling this for my members until I've got at least a rudimentary 'moods', and 'now playing' going. Looks too basic without, especially as I'm touting this an an alternative to LJ.

I've searched this thread and the vbmoods one till I've gone cross-eyed, but I can't get these functions to work. So ok, time for more primitive stuff: I'll forget about vbmoods and just use text input for the 'mood' as I'm doing for 'currently playing'. Only problem is the bloody text won't go into the posting box for either one!!

[high]* PhoenixBB weeps with frustration
[/high]

I know it can be done, and I saw gamingforce has it on his journals, but god knows I can't figure it out. Surely if you use 'form' and 'input' it should post the wretched text into the box??

Someone spill the beans before I turn into Basil Fawlty and thrash the computer within an inch of it's life! Please? <ingratiating grin>

Some people on my forums deliberately keep refreshing the Journal page to increase the number of views.

Is there any way to stop this?

(I know this is trivial ;))

Gutspiller 07-04-2003 06:51 AM

I just added this hack to my site and I want to change one thing. On one of the pages where it says: "<< Back to Gutspiller's Journal"

The font isn't using the font of my site. It's using the default font and I was hoping somebody would be able to tell me where to look in the code to set that font so that it's my default font and doesn't look out of place.

Please help. oh and THANKS! :D

Hmm I have a small problem, whenever users use ascii faces like >.> ^.^ ..things of that nature they get changed once posted to things like &.& and so forth. Is there a remedy to this?
I fixed this using a temporary method.. However, it's probably not advised.. *shrugs*. Follow the instructions in the attached .txt file. However, I don't think this will automatically update all of the ASCII faces to work, people will have to edit them or something for it to update.

Mood & Now Playing Add-On
This hasnt been released, has it?

With this add-on, users can put down a mood for himself/herself, and put what they are currently listening to. I had this for quite a long time on my board and I finally decided to release it. Just to be safe, backup before performing this add-on. The instructions are a little lengthy, but it gets the job done. :)

Nice addon :)

Gutspiller 07-23-2003 11:58 PM

How can I get the latest journals to appear on a non-vb page? I have nothing that links to the journals so nobody knows when they've been updated unless they go into the journal section.

Can somebody please help me on getting the latest journals that have been updated onto a non-vb page?

Please. :(

Thanks.

FleaBag 07-25-2003 01:11 PM

Nice hack! Just what I was looking for...

Templates said they automatically installed, but they didn't. Manually added them and everything works fine... Thanks for the fixes too. As I become more savvy with PHP I might work on this - see how it goes.

[B]I didn't alter anything and I have the same problem;

Database error in vBulletin 2.2.9:

Script: http://www.gamercrossfire.net/bb/bb/...14&action=view
Referer:

-------------------------------

Much appreciated. I used this. A few notes though;

In memberlist.php use
PHP Code:

// vBJournal Hack by Ryangel

if($userinfo[journal]==1){

$journal '<a href="journal.php?s=&journalid='.$userinfo[userid].'&action=view"><img src="images/journal.gif" alt="View '.$userinfo[username].'\'s Journal" border="0"/></a>';
    }
    else {

$journal ''

instead of
PHP Code:

// vBJournal Hack by Ryangel

if($userinfo[journal]==1){

$journal '<a href="journal.php?s=&journalid='.$userinfo[userid].'&action=view"><img src="images/journal.gif" alt="View '.$userinfo[username].'\'s Journal" border="0"/></a>';
    }
    else {

$journal '';
// vBJournal Hack by Ryangel

In the memberlist template add;

Code:

<td bgcolor="{*tableheadbgcolor*}" align="center"><smallfont color="{*tableheadtextcolor*}"><b>Journal</b></smallfont></td>
above
Code:

$memberlistbits
rather than putting
Code:

<td bgcolor="#1D6AA0" align="center"><smallfont color="#EEEEFF"><b>Journal</b></smallfont></td>
below it.

In the memberlistbit template use;

Code:

<td bgcolor="{*firstaltcolor*}">$journal</td>
rather than
Code:

<td bgcolor="#13486D">$journal</td>
Most of this isn't your fault. I noticed when you put something like {*tableheadbgcolor*} (without the *s) it's replaced with the tableheadbgcolor HTML for this board.

Remove all the *s in my coding for it to work.

[/i]
I've done this, however I get a Parse error: parse error in /home/guforum/public_html/test/memberlist.php on line 202

version is 2.3.0

any thoughts what's wrong?

Intex 08-01-2003 10:45 AM

Great hack - a nice addition. I've installed it and it appears to work fine with the exception of when you view a users journal, which produces an error at the top of the screen:

'Query could not be executed'

I'm able to create journal entries and they display no problems (public and private). So I'm not sure what's actually missing.

Anybody?

midnightz 08-04-2003 04:16 AM

Ok I have decided to take on the task of adding on some options, I am adding on the ability for new comments and entries to appear in New Posts, since this is something I have been wanting for a quite sometime. Give me about a week to pull this together.

I need a break, I just added a hivemail de-limiter so you need a minimum of posts to have access and I need to finish three websites, then I'm on it.

Cheers all - This is great hack and needs to evolve.

Oblivion Knight 08-04-2003 10:13 AM

I hope the avatar issue is eventually solved (showing custom avs only)..
I've had a go myself on a couple of occasions to fix this and just can't get it to work.

midnightz 08-04-2003 11:11 AM

what post # was the list of stuff to be fixed and added?

RammStein0071 08-05-2003 03:41 PM

I only have one question before I strongly think about installing this

does it have an option where though you make the entry private the writer can select whom they want to read it by entering a username in a field?

Hi, Ramm!

Ninth Dimension is correct. This journal doesn't have selective private entries.

Unless if you're well-versed in the fundamentals of PHP, furthermore, I also advise against installing it since it seems that installations have lately been more complex than when Ryangel first released it.

Oblivion Knight 08-05-2003 11:05 PM

Ryangel has said he will update it, which I'm sure he will once he has the time.. Anime-loo also said he was going to be coding his own version of a journal system, but he's now decided that it will be coded and released for vB3 only (the last I head from him on the subject anyway).

There are a quite a few issues and addons dealt with since the original instructions were posted. It would seem my HTML characters fix doesn't work for entries, and only comments at the moment which I will try and look into when I get some spare time..

PhoenixBB 08-12-2003 05:38 PM

Joeboo, thank you VERY much for the mood and np add on. It works great! :D

If your bbtags aren't working correctly with the journal, there was a problem with the install..

I think someone had a similar problem earler in this thread.

I just installed this and embedded BB Code images worked the first time I tried, but subsequently they do not. I tried editing the original post with img tags, and adding more posts, but they appear simply as url-type links.

Currently, bbcodes like BOLD, ITALICS, COLOR, SIZE, URL links, and smileys and such do work. I wonder how the vBulletin code would know whether or not to display embedded images?

Matt

(I know this is trivial ;))

Well, I have an idea for you. You might change the counts so they are only incremented when someone other than the journalist or a guest visits his page.

I added the parts in yellow to journal.php. Don't forget the closing bracket!:
Quote:

// Increase view count by 1
// only if the reader is not the journalist and not a guest!
if (($bbuserinfo[userid] != $userid) AND ($bbuserinfo[userid]!=0)) {

$view_up = $DB_site->query("UPDATE journal SET views=views+1 where journalid = $journalid");

if(!$view_up)
echo "Query $viewup could not be executed";
}

The reason for not having guests increment the count is that a person could simply log out and hammer their journal to increase the post count. Unless guests were already disabled from reading, as recommended elsewhere in this thread.

Of course, to circumvent this protection, they will simply need to log in as someone else and then hammer the journal. But we needn't tell them that!

Regards,

Matt

A member complained about that his first entries were gone. I checked her journal and this was true. Do journal entries automatically get pruned or do I have to change something somewhere to make everything show again?

It only shows a user's 10 most recent entries I believe..
Nobody implemented a way to view a journal in it's entirety or added pagination.

The entries are still there in the database, but they have been cut off from being displayed.

There is a link for [View All Entries]. It seems to work properly on some of the posters' forums.
