I'm not sure if this is written in your (Alfa1) functionality list, is possible to add :

1) Users/Members can only rate once
OR
2) Set usergroup permissions so that a we can set a limit on how of times a usergroup can rate

I think regular users rating more than once could cause possible biased ratings on product and place reviews. What does everyone else think?

Alfa1 02-24-2012 11:47 PM

Users should only be able to rate once, or if they are allowed to change their vote, then at least their vote should be counted once. But I think that is logical. It makes no sense to allow users to vote multiple times.

It has been 2 months since your ACS beta 2 was released. I'm not seeing any activity in your tracker since January. Is this project aborted or do you have plans for a Gold release in the near future?
I'm running out of time due to financially pressing issues and am considering to hire developers to commence on this project, if there is no sight on a solution to the feature list in post 1.
Please be so kind to keep us up to date.

kruchczan 03-05-2012 04:28 PM

I've tried using beta 2 version of forumsmod product, there is some bugs, and i couldn't make it work :/ (bought lifetime license btw). Hopefuly there will be beta3 soon.

Ramsesx 03-05-2012 06:37 PM

Seems he is doing this part time. Sadly this all takes ages for a final mature product...
And the coder I hired to convert GARS has delivered only one screenshot in 4 months.
It looks like we need to stay forever on 3.8.7 :(

ForumsMods 03-05-2012 06:46 PM

I am currently working in Beta 3 version, which is planned to be the last version before gold release.
For this reason a lot of new features were added, specially paid features like pay to publish, pay to stick, pay to bump, pay for new fields and pay for a different style for listing.

GARS importer is done and will be released with ACS Beta 3.

m4cios 03-10-2012 05:25 PM

It would be nice to have working product. IMO you should first make everything works with existing features and then add more. Please let us know when can we expect beta 3.

Agree, priority should be a full working basic product and complete instruction instead of a 1000 feature pocketknife all in never finished program.

Alfa1 03-11-2012 02:53 PM

There already are basic products available: either as TedS his Product Review Forums or as the working beta 2 of Advanced Content System. What sets ACS apart from the rest is its advanced feature set.
Commercial features are vital needs for more than a few admins, because these functions will pay their bills. In my communication with various people to chart their functionality needs, commercial functionality comes up again and again. ACS providing such functions in beta 3 makes a world of difference.
Please do not see it as superfluous bloat, because its not.

m4cios 03-11-2012 05:04 PM

Im aware that its better for author to write code 1 time and fix bugs than rewrite it every time when he try to add new feature, but i would give much for more informations about progress.

jshallo 03-18-2012 01:27 AM

I just stumbled on Edirectory.com 's software, it seems nice from a first glance but, I don't see any listing about vbulletin integration. If this was possible and you could customize a hosted solution it might be promising for me since the hosted version was $99/mo.

Alfa1 03-18-2012 04:36 AM

Dang! $1800 purchase price plus $400 per year for updates.
Thats quite a steep price tag.

Sure, there are basic products available.
But, TedS product isn't right for my needs and ACS beta 2 isn't working for me, 3 months after purchase.
Do you have it working on your site alfa?
So, that's the reason why I said to make the product first basic and working.
Makes no sense to me to add thousand of features if the final working result isn't foreseeable.

bigtree 03-20-2012 05:34 PM

man, so disappointing waiting so long. I'm with Ramsesx. Something simple that works would be great.

Teds is right on but lacks the ability to add new products via the Vbulletin 4 Editor. I can't understand that at all. The XML import is great for those who actually get company data via XML feeds for products but in my line of business, no manufacturer lists their product in a XML, so I have to copy paste product info one by one and the editor makes this much simplier. With Teds system, you have to grab all the HTML and screw around with that.

If I use the vbulletin Editor, I can copy past hundreds in a day, no problem ( images and tables etc, just like the product website displays !) . Awesome this way!

BUT WITH With Teds, I have to input all the html code via the CP which totally sucks. Its so slow and useless. Its focused on their agenda which is part of their business. I'm interested in boutique products and reviews. Not importing thousands of amazon type reviews in hundreds of categories. Way overkill.
Again, Teds XML import is great in their eyes , wonderful for importing thousands of products ( ONLY AVAILABLE in XML) but useless for simple solutions and the boutique product reviews.

If someone improved Teds, allowing the added ability to CREATE PRODUCTS with a vb style editor via the CPadmin or via the forums, Teds would be perfect for thousands of vbulletin websites!

Something simple, more personal that works. I would gladly pay for that.

Maybe there are two different GARS sites? I can't see a legit demo or any info on GARS confirming its ready for vb4. I'm guessing its the owner of GARS) asks if we are interested but provides no link (confirmed). So we need to google GARS only to find a site with dated info and a goofy download link requesting money for what?

For those familiar with your GARS, this may be a no brainer but for those not, is it ready for a production site? From my perspective, GARS appears to be dated and unclear if it is ready?

Anyone care to enlighten the unfamiliar, I'm interested in something that works for vb4. Out of all the hype here, It appears Adrian is the real deal.

Cheers!

Try deleting all the code inbetween lines 295-357 in gars_admin_phrases.php while you do the install

Edit - after looking at the code again it maybe 295-355 but It only needed it for me an upgrade (not clean install) and I haven't got a test site to upgrade to try it out atm.

Thanks for your support but doesn't work, if I remove until 355 it gives no message but doesn't complete the install, if remove until 357 get again the message "The Three Stooges...".
I'm upgrading, no clean install.

z3r0 03-20-2012 09:34 PM

I just tried the clean install again and that worked fine, I only did the upgrade once and from my notes that was what I needed to do to get it to complete.

If your interested in getting to upgrade working I'll download a backup of one of my 3.8 sites tomorrow and do a 4.1.11 update and find the steps I used for the gars upgrade.

This would be fantastic and very helpful z3r0, thank you very much.

z3r0 03-20-2012 09:39 PM

No problem, I'll set one downloading and give it a go tomorrow.

It maybe worth checking your php error log if it's turned on, that's how I found the fault in the gars_admin_phrases.php when I was doing the upgrade.

Please continue the GARS support conversation in a dedicated thread or in the GARS social group.

cellarius 03-21-2012 08:16 AM

I have given up on my products from vbgeek. Morgan's last post on that site was close to one year ago, and then there's another two posts since June 2010 (!). As sad as it is, and as great the geeks product's were, they are plain dead. Still recommeding it seems not a good idea.

vijayninel 03-21-2012 09:48 AM

If this is useful to anyone.. Gars forumdisplay gives a blank white page on PHP 5.3.6 and some other PHP versions as well. Turning off "GARS - Prep Forumdisplay" plugin from the plugin manager will display the normal vb forumdisplay so at least the articles can be seen.

Webrunner 03-22-2012 01:25 PM

Thanks for this great topic, i will be keeping an eye on this.

What is the progress on the different addons? Does anyone know what is going on with ChrisTERiS mod? Is it still in development?

I also stumbled upon iReviews from vbcover. I saw it was mentioned here once or twice?
Why is no one considering that mod? Am i missing something?

I have posted an update, but the GARS discussion has snowed it under.

Regarding GARS:
GARS is dead.
Even if someone would fix GARS, then its still unsupported undeveloped software from 2007.

We have not heard from Chris for a while. I hope this does not mean that his project has fallen through.

iReviews is nice software. But its encoded. So you are not able to modify it or resolve issues in case such arise. While I find it perfectly understandable that developers do not want their work nulled, I simply don't want to use encoded software. iReviews does not offer all of the features requested in this thread.

I haven't adopt the project but I was busy with a custom Gallery mod and a custom Mobile version of my Classifieds. Since Monday I'm working to reviews mod again, but I did some database changes to minimize the amount of queries. Now the homepage has around 5 queries, the listings 1 (!!) and the review page 9. Please note that I don't count the native vB queries.

Chris

Webrunner 03-22-2012 07:26 PM

Thanks for your answers. I think I will not go for Ireview as I am used to patching stuff myself.
I guess I have to be patient a little bit more ;)

Jaynie 03-22-2012 08:10 PM

Me too webrunner, I'm still waiting on further project development. Btw Forumsmods wrote in his site that ACS Beta 3 will be released on Monday, April 2.

Just in case anyone missed that ;)

I had a little trouble getting my 3.8 backup to update to 4.1.11 (I dread the day I need to do it for real), anyway it's done now and I manged to update gars without to many problems so I'll post the edited file in the thread at the gars forum for you to try.

Webrunner 04-03-2012 06:25 PM

Any news on any of the applications?
Deadlines are passing without any update :(

I really need a mod that does reviews in a good way but I am reluctant to buy something that is not supported in an orderly way :(

Alfa1 04-05-2012 12:33 AM

Forumsmods is adding more functions to beta-3 before releasing.

Webrunner 04-05-2012 04:46 AM

I hope it doesn't get to bloated and i hope he will optimized for speed.
That for me is more important than even more functionality.

Ramsesx 04-05-2012 08:31 AM

And I say it again, it was so promising when the Advanced Content System was released, purchased a license on January 9 and after 4 month it's still in beta and I can't use it on my site because of some bugs and no real instructions. And the promised gars importer? Seems to be ready but will be released with Beta3. And when will Beta 3 be released? In additional 3 months because there need to be included a lot of extra stuff the majority doesn't need?
Because of that extra stuff there may be more bugs and a final version far away I guess.
I'm very disappointed right now.
The priorities are just set wrong.
Why don't you make a basic full working and bug-free version like you have it on your demo site first?
Most people are only needing that basic stuff and if it's fully working people will buy it.
After you can release a pro version with all that additional extra stuff.
It's really that simple, concentrate to the basics, get more customers and make money with it than coming to a deadlock.

Alfa1 04-05-2012 11:59 PM

There is the issue that quite a lot of people are waiting for a solution and have been searching and waiting for a year since this thread started. While its very positive to see that several coders are working on something, I think its fair to say that a lot of people are not willing to wait much longer and want me to start hiring developers for this project.
So it would be good to see a release in the coming 2 weeks.

Alfa1 04-09-2012 05:06 AM

I added the following features to the list:
  • A store like display option.
  • Optional 'Buy now' button on forumdisplay for affiliate products.
  • Navigation treeview menu widget to display categories.

Webrunner 04-13-2012 07:57 AM

for what it is worth: i am willing to pay for a mod like this.
Something like $100 is no problem for me.

Alfa1 04-16-2012 02:04 AM

Added another feature to the list:
  • Excellent SEO / link structure in pages and navigation

Great to hear this! When do you think you will be ready for a production site and where is your link to your mod or download?
Sorry, if I'm daft, I don't know where your demo is ?

Is it here?
