Same issue here. Google must have updated their code. 404 on all the buttons and the map no longer shows user locations.
|
Ok, can anyone tell me why the 'pin' graphic URLs are wrong in my installation of this? http://www.isxgames.com/forums/usermap.php
On the demo site, the image location is http://i.dpstatic.com/pins/mm_20_red.png ..however, on my site it is http://labs.google.com/ridefinder/images/mm_20_red.png I can't see anything in the xml file or the php file (included with this addon) that helps me figure out how to fix this particular problem. ---- In more exciting news, once I get this problem solved I will be able to send a version to digitalpoint that doesn't require you to have the GeoIP php extension installed :) EDIT: Ooops, I just noticed that some others have reported this same problem. Looks like he fixed the demo site though. |
It's been updated do the pin images are pulled locally from your server.
|
I believe there is another issue, the map zoom freezes on mine and only 1 pin shows even when calling the pins from local server.
|
What's the URL?
|
Looks like that issue is fixed, no worries.
Just now it seems everyone is a admin ? http://www.travel-fans.com/usermap.php |
You also need to put the copyright link back for the mod.
|
Double check the "Admin/Moderator Usergroups" as set under AdminCP -> Settings -> Digital Point User Map?

Not really sure why they would all show as red (assuming the mod/admin groups are set right) to be honest... Can you try using this usermap.php file and see if it changes anything?

I dont think this would cause any issue with the product however, so any advice on that welcome too. Thanks. |

Hmmm... is anyone else seeing a similar issue? Not really the easiest thing to debug since it's working fine for me, and the install package is literally a copy of the files we use.
|
Anyone can see my maps?
http://www.inforge.net/community/usermap.php GEO-IP installed and working (see http://www.inforge.net/community/usermap2.php) |

I have edited this addon to work without the requirement of having the PHP Extension installed on the host. It was actually very easy with the php available at the GeoIP site.
Anyway, I sent the modifications (which is really just two lines in usermap.php) along with the extra necessary files, to digitalpoint. I'm not going to post it here without his approval (to avoid confusion); however, if you want to PM me, I will forward you the same message I sent to him. You can see it on my site at http://www.isxgames.com/forums/usermap.php |
Shaun,
The file states it is version 1.03 but the xml inside it states it as 1.02 so it shows up in the version check as being an old version. |
Shaun,
I though this was fixed. I am getting these errors when viewing the map and there are no spiders or users online. Quote:
|
Are you sure you updated the usermap.php file?
|
The file is dated from 2010. Looks like you have the old file in the ZIP file for download.
|
Ick... okay, I think I figured out what went wrong. For some bizarre reason I had two different usermap folders on my dev server and I zipped up the wrong one. Uploaded (hopefully) the right one now. :)
|
I figured it was a simple mistake. ;)

Can someone please write a usermap that shows the usernames of the users and actually works?
I tried this, had my web host download the PHP and data files and nothing. There was no support. Plus my users want to see where each other live and don't care about "privacy issues". I would pay for someone to write one that does this and works instead of this POS. Nelson |
Calling this mod a POS isn't going to get you anywhere. It works great!
And, Shawn, all is right with the world again. Thanks for the update, sir. ;) |
Here is my question:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...onitor&page=16 And the response from the coder: "I don't know why it wouldn't work" And my request that he contact my web host, because of info he asked for that I simply don't have access to. It shouldn't be supported if it doesn't work universally. Three stars, and doesn't even deserve that. Yep, a POS alright. Worst mod I have installed from here. Others worked like a charm. Someone please write one that WORKS...and shows the users by name. "Privacy concerns" is not a reason to exclude this functionality. Nelson (stands by my opinion on this mod) |
Good luck with that. ;)
|
Giving users an option in their profile/setting to have their Username displayed on the map (or not) might be nice.
Display Username on User Map: yes/no (default = no). I do have to agree with Boofo, that being derogatory isn't going to have any positive effect. The fact that this Mod is working for others tends to suggest that the issues you're having are somehow related to your specific installation... since this is not a paid for Mod, pointing the coder to your host and barking "fix it" is not likely to get you any support, let alone the support you imagine you should get... then add to that, that you're bagging his Mod (that works fine for others)... that's kind of a bridge burning move. The old idiom of; 'You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar' certainly applies here. |
Shawn, do i need to reimport or just uplaod the new php file since the update a few days back?
Thanks. |

I have this mod working on a relatively fresh install of vBulletin 4.1.8... it is working as it should (after getting HostGator to install the GeoIP php extension). Thank you to Shawn of digitalpoint for providing this great mod for free, it is appreciated greatly.
|
WEll i run a modified template so i have a search box to search the map, id rather not have to manually edit it if i can just upload the new php file only.
|
Did you read my original question, or just ignore the link to post your biased opinions supporting this erm, mod?
Asking nicely, pointing the coder to the web host who can answer his questions, got NO response. Is that what you call support for a mod? I don't. I call it throwing up your hands and ignoring someone with a problem with the mod. The problem was beyond my ability to diagnose and required more information that only the web host could give him. I directed him in that direction and got dead silence. He didn't bother to contact my web host, just moved on like it didn't happen. That is BS. The fact that this mod "works for some" isn't exactly a glowing endorsement, except by fellow coders and friends. The mod should work for everyone. And the fact that it doesn't and has issues you fellows are still talking about only proves the point. So far, I have downloaded and installed "DownloadsII", "PayPal Donation", "Newsletter" and one or two other mods without an issue. So obviously, I am capable of installing something that works. As for burning bridges gentleman, I uninstalled this piece of crap from my site a while ago because it didn't work, and I was getting no help from the coder. My users are still asking me for a member map for our site, particularly one that identifies the users by username. (They feel that the coder's "privacy issue" is no issue to them and want that option). I write in the hope that some talented coder can write one that works for me and most everyone else, and has the feature that you agree would be good to have and be able to toggle on/off. Time to sweep a mod that "works for some and not others" and is unsupported into the trash and come up with one the caliber of DownloadsII, PayPal Donation, Newsletter, etc that work when you install them. Not all of us are coders or techies to be able to diagnose and fix the bugs that prevent this desireable yet flawed piece of programming waste from functioning. This will be my final say on this, so feel free to flame if at will. I speak candidly and from a desire to have something that works and will please my users. Nelson |

I can help people, but when user's I'm trying to help don't want to do it and pass me on to someone else, not really going to go out of my way, sorry. :) If your server does not support geoip PHP extension, there's not a lot I can do to help you. If you could get at the server logs, it probably would tell you exactly what the problem is so your hosting company can fix it for you. But either way, there's nothing I can do within the addon itself that will make geoip extension work (or be installed properly) on your server if it's not already. It's kind of like trying to run a PHP script without PHP installed on your web server and then blaming whoever coded the script that it doesn't work on your server. |

When you've been involved with this community for as long as some of us have, spent tens of thousands of hours on your site, and/or thousands of dollars on custom modifications, servers, and everything else, then you maybe can complain a little bit. If anyone should be complaining here it should be Shawn for having to deal with shi**y people like you. |
This is a great mod. I have a question. If I have only one admin or mod on the site why does it show so many red pins?
I went to admin setting and only added the one usergroup as admin. Does this thing cache somewhere? |
