You're welcome :)

AzH 01-11-2009 08:57 AM

This is a great product. My only wish is for more banner locations. I need three and this only supplies two so need to seek out an alternative to compliment this one.

We can talk about this extension but it can't just be implemented - careful planning is required in order to keep it a reliable software solution.

Currently I'm using a TINYINT(1) field to distinct between 2 locations, and have 2 placeholder options available. It can't be an infinite number of locations, else it becomes difficult to handle the options. You'll agree with me, once there are more locations available, people would like to have any number, though. ;)

AzH 01-11-2009 01:27 PM

Is it possible to rename the product something else so that I can run two versions? That should give me 4 locations non?

You could globally replace "rbs" with something else. Needs to be applied to all file contents and file names. That could do the job I think.

AzH 01-11-2009 06:28 PM

Would you be able to do the job? (for a small fee perhaps?)

I'm currently unable to take any small or big job. It should be really easy. Just a simple replace and rename job ;)

Please create a new post and paste into the message body @vbbanners@. A banner must show up. If it doesn't, reinstall the product and keep the sample banners and retry, until the banners are shown.

Once they are on-line, add @vbbanners@ to your templates where you wish to see banners. Once they show up, you may add, delete and change the conditions of a banners at your wish. In the attached help file you may find addtional information of the fields and how to setup your system in order to make it work.

Can't seem to get this to rotate for nothing. I have also clicked vertical for each banner I add. It only shows the first banner and thats it. I know its probably something small that I overlooked but can't seem to figure out what. Thanks! Great mod btw..

Try to add just another banner (different image) with the same settings as the one you see. Then, adjust the options to your wishes.

I suppose you have only one single banner which can actually show for the given options, and thus you'll see only that. There are many factors which may limit a banner to show in certain places. When starting, best practice is not to select any option and work with the basic default options. Also keeping the samples is a great help. ;)

I figured it out. It was the time and dates..

To upgrade from 2.0.6 to 2.1.0 I just reupload all the contents of the download? It will not replace my current information will it?

zorag 01-22-2009 11:11 AM

It would be FAR better if this mod could work with multiple banner locations using specific custom code zones like this:

@vbbanners_468x60_header@
@vbbanners_728x90_footer@
@vbbanners_125x125_zone1@
@vbbanners_125x125_zone2@

etc.. etc..

You would then just enter the codes into the Style Manager/Ad Location Templates for the areas throughout the forum. Maybe add a Type category in the create banner page which over rules the @vbbanners@ code allowing users to enter custom code as above.

Just my 2c - would be much more powerful !!

The data in the database remains untouched :)

I'm sure it would, but then it won't be a simple tool any more, since the infinite number of possible areas would not allow to use the standard options, nor understand on the fly where what is shown.

For the moment I believe the winning applications are those which remain simple to maintain and address a large number of users. Such an addition would create very small benefits to most of the users, but add a great number of additional problems.

I have a limited extension in mind and scheduled, though, for up to 10 different locations, which is about the upper limit I would ever suggest to use, and which would just fit into the vBulletin options ;)

:)

Reinstall the product.

If you have data stored you would not like to loose, make a backup of the rbs_banner table first, reinstall and then restore this table.

Anyway it shouldn't go all italian unless you have installed and chosen to use Italian as the default language ...

bwcbob 01-23-2009 02:08 AM

Mine is now Italian to!!!

Reinstalled 3 times, rebuilt the only language, ENGLISH, on the forum... still shows up in Italian... The phrases in the ENGLISH section are well.... english...

bwcbob 01-23-2009 02:30 AM

Fixed,

Code:

SELECT *
FROM `vbulletin_phrase`
WHERE varname LIKE "%rbs%"
LIMIT 0 , 300

Delete all rows, and reinstall...

bwcbob 01-23-2009 02:39 AM

Uninstalled, banner not showing up - replacer being replaced with nothing...

used correct thing, does not insert ads - 0 rating... poor uninstaller, alpha level coding at best.

y2ksw 01-23-2009 10:09 AM

Can I please know what exactly you did to get the Italian version? Have you Italian installed? What is your default language?

y2ksw 01-23-2009 10:31 AM

I have added in the English Help / Installation the following note which reads:
Quote:

Please note that the lang-it-rbs.xml file is intended to use only on boards where the Italian language is installed and used as default.
This help file will be deployed together with the next version.

hieronymous 01-24-2009 07:53 AM

a nice mod. i'm not exactly a n00b at this kind of thing, but it took a lot longer for me to implement it on my site than it should have done. some more explicit instructions and examples would have been helpful

like too many of these mods, the instructions airily assume that the person implementing them is of the same level of knowledge and competence as the person who wrote them - and that rarely is the case

that said, it seems to works well. thanks for sharing it

Yeah, I'm aware of this problem.

It has worked out, it needs a final user to write the resume and additional information, since the point of view is always very different. Starting from the terms up to images, the sequence of actions and setup are generally so different, it can't be fully percieved by a developer (the more expertise the larger the gap) ... :)

It works on 3.8.0 and thus should run also on 3.8.1 (not tested yet).

C138 Kaysone 02-20-2009 04:21 AM

no clickable ads?

Rodimus 03-18-2009 11:29 AM

Might sound like a dumb question, but is there a way to have a set of banners to work on 1 style and another set of banners to work on a different style?

You may use and show your own HTML for your banners.

I believe I'm not going to embed automatically SWF banners, since the HTML embed tag is not W3C compliant and the object tag only half way supported by all browsers.

If there is a # in place of an URL, the user click does not go anywhere (local unreferenced anchor).

Not yet, sorry ;)

Rodimus 03-18-2009 04:27 PM

Yet? Does that imply that it might one day?

y2ksw 03-18-2009 04:55 PM

It may happen if this is a request of at least a few more users, and if then it works out technically in some way. It may work, for example, if the style information is available when the page is rendered.

Hi,

I just downloaded the file. How do I add the rotating banner or install it on VB?

Thanks.
