K, well how about just IDK fixing the PIN issue as it is stopping the whole modification from working at all. Uninstalled until this issue is fixed.

basilrath 07-04-2008 02:14 PM

What are you talking about? If you don't get the test message with the PIN, you're not going to get any messages at all from the modification. The purpose of the PIN is to prove you own the number, as well as confirm your settings are working and you're receiving texts before the forums bother wasting resources and trying to send you all these texts that you're never going to get.

See what I'm saying? Make sure you're using the right carrier and email, and make sure you don't have to activate the email to text service through your carrier.

You are not getting it. I along with a bunch of other people are NOT getting the PINs in the first place. The phone number is correct, but NO PIN!

I'm not going to get into a shouting match with you over it, becaues it's like I said. That means your settings are by some ways or means incorrect, and you are not going to receive any messages at all with the settings you've chosen (number + carrier + email).

To help remedy this, instead of simply telling me it's not working, you could tell me what carrier you're trying to use and the email associated with it, and then I might actually be able to do something for you. The PIN number is sent the same way as all the other text messages are sent by the modification, so you're attacking the PIN because you're not getting it, but that's not the problem. You're not getting the text message that contains the PIN in the first place, thereby indicating your settings are incorrect somehow because other users can get the PIN number on a variety of carriers and countries.

Small problem when I tested the mod on my forum with my profile.
I selected Orange UK as the provider put in my phone number. It then wants me to select an email address but there is none to select.
I'm now in a loop and unable to get out of this. Reset fields does nothing and when I go to edit my details I'm taken straight back to the above screen.

BigDog56 07-05-2008 12:13 PM

This is too cool! Thank you very much! I'm using Sprint, tested, worked like a charm.

zigojacko 07-05-2008 03:17 PM

Hello, sounds a great mod but I haven't been able to get it working yet. The mod seemed to install fine as I have all the SMS options etc in my admin cp but when I don't appear to be receiving the test message with the pin to my mobile number.

I am on 02 (UK) and there was only one email address to select which I did. Entered my mobile number as 07933xxxxxx (all numerics) and then sent the test message which I have not received yet, been waiting for over an hour now. (I did re-request the test message three times as well).

I have read the troubleshooting section of your read me file "Q: I'm not getting the text messages/I'm getting them after a long time." but I couldn't really understand what I needed to do.

Is there any advise you can offer at all please?

Thanks

Make sure you don't have to activate the ability to use the email-to-text service through your cell phone company. I'm not familiar with the companies over there, but I know with Orange you have to activate MMS first. If that doesn't work, the email I have for that carrier may be bad. This will hopefully be fixed soon. :)

Have you activated it for 02, you have to text on to number 212.

Also make sure you enter your number as 447933xxxxxx and not zero.

What he said. :p Thanks.

I've built a feature into v1.2 that allows the SMS mod to report to me which carriers are confirmed working, and allows users to report carriers that are not working properly (i.e. wrong email). The automatic reporting can be turned off in the Admin CP if you have privacy concerns, but you'll be able to learn more about all this when I release it.

Anyway, this has given me the idea to add a field to the database to record carrier-specific issues or directions for each carrier or email. :) It's probably not a bad idea.

okhissabigfish 07-06-2008 04:20 AM

I'm using with Sprint and works like a well oiled clock.

I have enabled/activated the MMS service but that didn't seem to make a difference.

I see from replies to this thread however that others have got it working for o2 which is strange... :(

I tried this and unfortunately it didn't make a difference. I am still not receiving my test message containing my PIN :(

I have tried to set it up again and the only carrier email address that was there before has now disappeared so I have no email addresses to select now.

Any ideas?

Thanks

zigojacko 07-06-2008 08:35 AM

I've uninstalled the product and reinstalled and now the mmail address is back for O2.

Am just trying again...

Not sure then fella, sorry.

I enabled the mms service, selected o2 from the dropdown and inputed my number with 44 instead of 0. I then selected the email and sent the test message.

Is it a pay and go or contract phone but not sure if this would make any difference.

AdmiralGeek 07-06-2008 05:45 PM

will this work for version 3.6.7

AdmiralGeek 07-06-2008 07:38 PM

nope, needs to be ported.

I should add to this, and I do not mean in a negative way. The script can be easily converted as a standalone. And can cause massive congestion on the mail servers through a function assigned to a loop.

When you send the request, it can be looped to what ever numerical value you may like and incremented to what ever numerical value you want assigned to a $variable (as an example). Say multiplying this value by *90. And having your .ini timeout set to a high value.

I do see that you have provided security by means of an ID, this can be easily changed to simply echoing and applied to a logical statement. Or even a conditional statement.

There was a similar script release a couple of years ago, and was shut down as it provided malicious means. It was then further released, but this time, the source code was "closed" as in encrypted.

This is only directed towards mobile/cellular phone providers that offer the email as free.

It is very original, but it can cause havoc on a mass scale. I'm surprised that it is allowed to be released here. As it should a standalone AND "closed source"

If someone really wanted to use a script to flood a mailserver, they could use a better one than this I'm sure. This is obviously much more than just mailing a cell phone, it's integrating your forums with your texting services for convenience and coolness. What people do with it beyond that is their responsibility and not mine. :)

They can use a better one, that is why I inputted examples. But the main concept is the core of your source code.

The script is "mailing a cell phone". Not just for "forum" use.
*this is not a means to turn people off of this script, just a justification of it's technicalities*

You have programmed it to adaptable to VBB in accordance to it's function.

I have passed on the concept to managerial personal within meteor Ireland, so they can evaluate the congestion and prospect of a Web based APP intrusion.

I am trying to demonstrate to you, about releasing this source code in public view, it is quite easy to reverse this. And Jelsoft should be weary too, as they are hosting responsibility. You should however, encrypt it with ion cube, or zend guard, and publish it on a different domain. And create a more thorough installation procedure.

Sorry, still don't understand what your issue is. :p Like I said, this is nothing that couldn't be done with a simple PHP script or opening your mail client and sending an email. I don't see any reason to encrypt it.

All the script is doing is mailing another phone via it's email. I don't understand how this program could be a threat of national security -_-. If someone really wanted to spam a cell phone, all they would have to do is create a function that would mass send a message, which this modification does not support.

You have got email enabled in your usercp?

How many mms carrier emails came up for you when you did it mate? I only had the one available.

My phone is pay as you go although, I too am unsure that would make a difference.

Yep I have all the receive email options enabled in my user cp...

Gutted, really wanted to get this working, heh

Thanks though
