Version 2 (already being built) will be a product with ACP controls, dynamic tab generation, additional content addition, usergroup permissions, AJAX (with multiple settings that can be turned on and off and set for specific "times") and more..

Version 3 (on the white board) will consist of USER controlled Tabs so that THEY can decide what order they want the tabs and what categories/forums fall under each tab..

G'day Bobster - I have searched here and can't find the answer to this one. Might be here but...... I can't find it.

On page one the forums are expanded and look like this:
Attachment 80571

However on the tabbed page all I can get is this:
Attachment 80572

Is there some code that allows me to have the header expanded as in page 1. Not the brightest with code but not scared to have a go either.

The top link (header) will expand to give the same view as page 1 when it's clicked on.

Cheers - Neil :)

PS Thanks for this great add-on. You've done really well. I love it.

When it is done, I will update this Mod thread. (you will receive automatic notice if you have it marked as installed) It is going to be awhile tho.

This mod is fully search engine unobtursive and does not effect any spidering.

This works fine on 3.7.0 If you are missing the comment on your template, then you must be using a custom style and they removed the comment.

Hey Bobster,

First off great addon. I have a question though. I do not want to show the forums that are on in the tabs on the main forumhome, so I take the category they are in and make it hidden, but then on the tab, it removes all of the last post, thread, and reply counts. Any way around this?

TIA

lauxanh 05-15-2008 08:03 PM

Does it work on 3.7?

It looks so nice.

How can I turn off the auto cycle or change the time it cycles through the tabs?

in the init() parameter.. Auto rotate is off by default () the rotation time is in microseconds, so if you want it to auto rotate 10 seconds between tabs, set it to myforumtabs.init(10000)

Code:

<!-- Tabbed Forums switch tab script -->
        <script type="text/javascript">
        var myforumtabs=new ddtabcontent("forumtabs")
        myforumtabs.setpersist(true)
        myforumtabs.setselectedClassTarget("link")
        myforumtabs.init()
        </script>
        <!-- /end Tabbed Forums switch tab script -->

michaelsilvia 05-15-2008 11:42 PM

Thanks!

I think it is ON by default. After it was installed on my forum it started rotating.

I have not installed this only because...well there are a lot of changes to be made, however, I just wanted to say this is an EXCELLENT mod...voted!!

It may have been mentioned, however, will there ever be a time this will be able to be done with a product?

VGPelega 05-17-2008 08:19 PM

I have this all installed and working like a treat, apart from one minor minor issue, well kinda a big issue but bet its really small and simple to fix.

Basically it loads all the tabs fine, and I can select them, but after I select any tab, all the other tabs disappear and it loads the right category, but all the tabs disappear.

I would really love to mark this as Installed, but until I am using it I won't mark as installed.

I was starting to read through the posts to see if someone had the same issue as me, but got to page 8 before I gave up. Is there something that causes the tabs to disappear after selecting one?

EDIT: I found the error, I had simply placed the navigation inside the first Tab container. Was a simple error I noticed after taking a 40 min break from 4 hours of setting up over 30 forums and categories.

Fantastic Hack, and very much appreciated, and I will look into the vbSEO aspect of it, and let you know how that goes. :D

Yes, version 2 is being worked on now and will be a product along with ACP Controls for setup and configuration.

Wished I would have been on earlier.. I've actually done that myself and could have told ya right away lol.. glad you figured it out though! No issues that I am aware of with vbSEO....

I am trying to use this wonderful mod, but probably should be sleeping by now,
anyway

I do not get the "tabs", only underlined forum names, that link to nothing

I am having trouble understanding which variables go where
<li><a href="#" rel="tcontent1" class="selected">Tab 1 Name</a></li>
href="#"....forum id # ??
rel="tcontent1"...??????
Tab 1 Name.......name of forum area ??

<!-- Tabbed Forum Home – START Tab 2 Content Layout -->
<div id="tcontent2" class="tabcontent">

id="tcontent2...........same as above ?????????????
class="tabcontent".............?????????????

thanks

these are probably very easy answers, that I cannot see at the moment

In this part, you only need to be concerned with the Red and Blue colors. The Red (Tab Names) are the text you want to appear on the Tabs themselves. The Blue highlited text identifies the DIV Containers that will contain the data (See both Code Areas)...

class="tabcontent" is part of the CSS File that determines the CSS portion that is used for the particular element.

Code:

        <!-- Tabbed Forum Home Tabs Layout -->
        <ul id="forumtabs" class="shadetabs">
        <li><a href="#" rel="tcontent1" class="selected">Tab 1 Name</a></li>
        <li><a href="#" rel="tcontent2">Tab 2 Name</a></li>
        <li><a href="#" rel="tcontent3">Tab 3 Name</a></li>
        </ul>
        <!-- /Tabbed Forum Home Tabs Layout -->

Code:

<!-- Tabbed Forum Home – START Tab 1 Content Layout -->
<div id="tcontent1" class="tabcontent">

<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
<thead>
        <tr align="center">
          <td class="thead">&nbsp;</td>
          <td class="thead" width="100%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td>
          <td class="thead" width="175">$vbphrase[last_post]</td>
          <td class="thead">$vbphrase[threads]</td>
          <td class="thead">$vbphrase[posts]</td>
          <if condition="$vboptions['showmoderatorcolumn']">
          <td class="thead">$vbphrase[moderator]</td>
          </if>
        </tr>
</thead>

$forumbits

<tbody>
        <tr>
                <td class="tfoot" align="center" colspan="<if condition="$vboptions['showmoderatorcolumn']">6<else />5</if>"><div class="smallfont"><strong><a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]do=markread" rel="nofollow">$vbphrase[mark_forums_read]</a><if condition="$vboptions['forumleaders']">&nbsp; &nbsp;
                        <a href="showgroups.php$session[sessionurl_q]" rel="nofollow">$vbphrase[view_forum_leaders]</a></if></strong></div></td>
        </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

$forumhome_markread_script

</div>
<!-- /Tabbed Forum Home - END Tab 1 Content Layout -->

This is so awesome, just what I need.

Now I've got a question. What I want to do is to make the tab which is open first dependent from a certain value. How do I change which tab is open on the first visit though?

I tried removing the class="selected" from the 1st tab and added it to the 2nd one, but it didn't seem to work.

What am I doing wrong?

Yes, that is how you do it. It uses persistance tho (which can be shut off .. its on by default).. Persistence brings you backc to the same place as you left... ie, if you clicked on tab 3, then viewed a thread and went back to forum home, Tab 3 would be active (if persistence is on).. if you shut persistence off, it would always default to the "selected" tab.

Change Selected to tab 2 like you did, then log out and log back in.. it should launch this time with Tab 2 open.

zappsan 05-20-2008 02:24 PM

I'll try that, thanks for the help :)

which file, and where in it, would one make persistance be shut off?

You can shut it off in the template itself.. Just change true to false in the red line below.

Code:

        <!-- Tabbed Forums switch tab script -->
        <script type="text/javascript">
        var myforumtabs=new ddtabcontent("forumtabs")
        myforumtabs.setpersist(true)
        myforumtabs.setselectedClassTarget("link")

Hmmm, looking at my boards... is it possible to have these tabs show at the top of FORUMDISPLAY and SHOWTHREAD? Would make navigation super easy ....

The way I do it on my site is to use remote links. This is explained in post 2 of this thread. You can set up the look and feel on those templates and just use the remote link to take you back to the selected tab. You can even make it look exactly like the tabs on the forum home page if you want to ..

Dynamically selecting a tab using a remote link (tabcontent.js v2.2 or above)

Eq4bits 05-20-2008 04:39 PM

thank you! will try that. must have missed it when i was *first* reading thread before installing (eyes probably glazed over.... 18 pages......)

OsideRida06 05-20-2008 05:27 PM

I just wanted to show everyone my tabbed forum. It works like a charm. I have also marked it as installed. So let me know what you guys think. ok?

http://calistyle101.com/
http://calistyle101.com/forums/index.php

Eq4bits 05-20-2008 06:12 PM

Of course *now* a question/problem:
In FORUMDISPLAY above [code]</head>I inserted
Code:

<!-- Tabbed Forum Home Header Code -->
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://www.********.***/forums/tabs/tabcontent.css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.********.***/forums/tabs/tabcontent.js"> </script>
<!-- /Tabbed Forum Home Header Code -->

then right below
Code:

<!-- / controls above thread list -->
I inserted
Code:

<!-- Tabbed Forum Home Tabs Layout -->
<ul id="forumtabs" class="shadetabs">
<li><a href="index.php?forumtabs=1"><b>Forums</b></a></li>
<li><a href="index.php?forumtabs=2"><b>Out Of Character</b></a></li>
<li><a href="index.php?forumtabs=3"><b>Role Play</b></a></li>
<li><a href="index.php?forumtabs=4"><b>The Vault</b></a></li>
<li><a href="index.php?forumtabs=5"><b>Board Of Directors</b></a></li>
</ul>
<!-- /Tabbed Forum Home Tabs Layout -->

The tabs show up perfectly but when in a subforum and I click one of the tabs it doesn't 'take me to' what I clicked (did that make sense?) it just moves me up one forum level instead of to the correct category.

Do I need to also edit forumdisplay.php the same as I did for index.php?

you MIGHT have to use the full URL.... can you PM me a link so I can take a look at the pages?

Trana 05-22-2008 06:35 PM

OK, I have my first tab working which displays all the forums.

My second tab shows up fine but I don't really understand the concept of categories. I have forums that are subforums of a VB "category". I used this category number in the URL as per your documentation, however on the second tab I only see a link to the category itself and not a list of the subforums. If I click that link (of the category), I go to the default VB forumhome display for the subforums.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks.

Hey Trana :) Sounds to me like you are using the wrong Cat ID to create the Forumbits themselves (just need to use the next higher parent IDs). I PMd you my Chat ID and can try and help you that way..
