Thank you Paul, if you have time to look that would be great.

I'll PM you the info.

towermatt 08-12-2008 04:50 PM

Just so everyone knows, my problem with the calendar was not Paul's hack. The fact that it worked after the disable was a total coincidence.

Amazing support on this hack, thank you for your help Paul.

glennybee 08-15-2008 03:31 AM

Is there any way I can change the font for this text...???

No Unread Posts since your last visit.

Thanks :)

EDIT:

I found it lol...I edited the phrase and that fix it. :)

forumguy 08-28-2008 12:58 PM

Installed this hack and upgraded the previous one. Works well except there seems to be a small change. In the previous edition when you viewed an unread post it left in the unread post section, just not bolded.

Is there anyway to go to having the unread post stay in the unread section instead of disappearing after it is clicked?

Brad Jones 09-01-2008 11:14 AM

Paul, thank you for this plugin. It works very well.

Could you make an option whereas the admin could choose to display the number of posts and threads? The display could be something like, "x new posts in y threads".

Seeing both numbers gives a better sense of what kind of unread monstrosity you have awaiting you when there's been a particularly active time since your last visit.

theparentpack 09-02-2008 06:51 AM

I have this installed on 3 of my forums, and one of them is a new forum. I am having issues with the Unread Posts link working on my vBa CMPS hompage. The Unread Posts link works fine on the forums page, but not the CMPS page. How do I correct this issue?

As per earlier messages in this thread...

vBulletin Options -> Display Unread Posts and Reputation -> Links Prefix Path

You need to enter the path from your homepage to your forum, with a trailing slash.

For instance, I use, "/forum/".

theparentpack 09-03-2008 06:43 PM

thanks! I solved the other issue, but now I am having another issue.

Every time any of the members or I visit the forums our unread posts says No Unread Posts. When I click on unread posts there are some listed, but they are listed as if I have already visited the site. In other words above the unread posts list of posts it says:

The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts.

How do I fix this? It is only happening on one of 3 forums that I have. I am afraid it is affecting the activity on my site.

What do you have for the following?:

vBulletin Options -> Display Unread Posts and Reputation -> Display Unread Posts Option

It should be set to "Count All Posts Marked as Unread".

forumguy 09-04-2008 12:30 PM

Anyone know how to resolve this issue:

It should be displaying read and unread posts.

Paul M 09-04-2008 12:52 PM

As I have already told you once, that has nothing to do with this modification - that is how unread posts are displayed in vbulletin (using database marking) - nothing has changed in the mod.

forumguy 09-04-2008 01:58 PM

Ok do you know what setting I would need to make to enable that?

Because it was working when I was using the previous version of your hack with the latest vbulletin release.

Paul M 09-04-2008 02:49 PM

Enable what exactly ?

Database marking has worked like that since vb 3.5, there is nothing different about it in 3.7, nor has this mod changed between 3.5/3.6 and 3.7.

forumguy 09-04-2008 04:01 PM

Ok. What I am asking is how to go back to the way it was before I upgraded the hack.

For example, when you click an unread post, it dissappears after from the unread posts section.

Before it use to just unbold and still show the unread post there.

So it would ideaully show READ/UNREAD threads here:

http://www.*******.com/search.php?do=getnew

Is it a specific marking system I have to select or some other setting it get it show both read and unread now?

theparentpack 09-07-2008 07:54 AM

Got it, thanks so much. Awesome hack btw!

I have this mod, and the Ultimate Navbar installed on my forum. While the Ultimate Navbar is installed I no longer have the Unread Posts link. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi! When I click on either UserCP or the link displaying how many new Rep Comments I have I get this error:

Uninstall it and then re-install it - for some reason the column creation failed.

Sweeks 09-13-2008 01:46 PM

I dont understand what $ I am supposed to use to get the unread posts to show where I want them to. Can anyone advise me on this please. Thank you :D

Dear Paul,

I posted this back on page 4, but don't think it got an answer (apologies if I missed it somewhere in all the pages of posts!). As I'm doing some template config at the moment, it's again relevant. I'd be grateful for your help:

Is there any way to display the New Posts reading separately from the Welcome block? I very much like it there; but I'd also like to add it to various locations on custom forum pages -- e.g. we have a 'welcome page' that displays a quotation, and where I used the old Show New Posts hack to paste in the HTML code so that the reading would show.

How can I display this hack's readout elsewhere via HTML in templates?

Paul M 09-29-2008 09:42 AM

I believe the variable it creates is called $unread - try putting that in your template.

user02934123123 09-29-2008 06:19 PM

Dear Paul,

That seems to work - many thanks for it. But now, how do I get rid of it displaying in the default location in the navbar? I.e., I want to move it to a different location in my navbar (since the default position is causing layout display problems). I can use the variable to insert it elsewhere - but how do I stop it displaying immediately after the 'Welcome username' location in the navbar?

Many thanks.

Paul M 09-30-2008 10:31 AM

You cant without editing the plugin code, which is beyond the level of support I can provide atm.

Forum Exlude List

Paul M 10-11-2008 03:56 PM

Goomzee 10-13-2008 05:44 AM

i went there but it;s show only Display order number but forums ID

Charlie98902 10-15-2008 11:19 PM

Code:

Welcome, Charlie.
Display Unread Posts
You last visited: 09-15-2008 at 09:44 PM
Private Messages: Unread 0, Total 1.

I had to restore my database and such from a corrupt vbulletin upgrade and now it shows the above code on the unread posts. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the product. The product was installed the day the database was backed up too.

EDIT: I did a post from another account so it isn't noticing this either when there is a new post.

Charlie98902 10-16-2008 01:04 AM

I clicked mark all forums read and this issue was no longer there thanks anyways.

Paul M 10-16-2008 06:45 AM

What issue exactly, what you posted looks fine to me. :)

Charlie98902 10-16-2008 09:59 AM

Actually when there was any new posts it wasn't working. After I marked all forums read & cleared my cache it started working again.

Paul M 10-16-2008 10:17 AM

Looks like it was working to me - you did read this in the main post ?

Quote:

.. if a member has not visited for more than x days then a simple unread posts link will be displayed, not an actual count ..

Charlie98902 10-16-2008 12:37 PM

No I didn't see that post but like I said After I click mark posts as read it was fix as it sould of said this:

Welcome, Charlie.
No Unread Posts since your last visit.
You last visited: 10-16-2008 at 05:04 AM
Private Messages: Unread 0, Total 0.

Notice it now says No instead of display.

Paul M 10-17-2008 10:41 AM

It should not have said that at all, notice the LV date in your previous post ;

You last visited: 09-15-2008 at 09:44 PM

That date was more than the X days limit, therefore it defaulted to the simple unread posts link, irrespective of how many you actually had. It worked as expected/designed. :)

Daky 10-21-2008 12:08 AM

Hi
great mod, very nice..

is it possible to display unread posts from specific category or forum only?

tnx

Paul M 10-21-2008 01:24 AM

No, there is no such facility.

struff 10-25-2008 01:03 AM

How long should this take to import? It's been on Adding Index for about 30 minutes so far.
Thanks.

I gave up after an hour.

How long should it take?

Paul M 10-25-2008 05:05 PM

Depends on how big your posts table is, but sounds to me like it hung, just try again.

1,015,857 posts. I tried it twice and it was the same both times. I'll try again. Does the board have to be off for the whole time?

Paul M 10-26-2008 11:42 AM

I suggest you add the index manually via phpmyadmin. Mysql is taking so long to add the index that php is timing out.
