Thanks :D

that really annoyed me, it looks way better now

iojam 07-09-2007 09:47 PM

T_Richardson,

in case if your forums URL is defined in admincp like http://example.com, you should submit sitemap like http://example.com/sitemap.xml (NOT http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml).

the sitemap tool is working for a year on my board..
but, Google like to index pages from my board that are really old, and i don't want google bots to access those pages, which means that i shouldn't send google in the sitemaps old URLs..
I have just one google bot on the site, it is the same bot that is downloading all the sitemaps, and it his crawling my board a lot, so I want it to crawl new threads , what do I need to change to Generate filtered sitemaps (which means that only threads from a certain date will be included in the site maps files) can you please help me?

iojam 07-11-2007 10:12 PM

vBSEO Sitemap Generator doesn't allow to exclude (cutoff) the threads based on the posts age.

Should I see an entry for every single day in my "Show Reports List" ? I only have 3 entries there and this has been installed for 6 days.

Hello,

try to execute sitemap generation manually in vbseo_sitemap/ interface to check if it finishes successfully.

Boots 07-17-2007 11:25 PM

It executes fine when run manually.

Bacon Butty 07-18-2007 09:41 AM

Newbie alert here lads.

I installed the mod a while ago, but when I go to googles webmaster tools I am getting an error when I try to add the sitemap.

I have tried forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz and /sitemap_index.xml.gz but it isn't accepting it?

When I check in the FTP there is no such file as 'sitemap_index.xml.gz' How do I generate it? I have run the sitemap generator I get;

Code:

Any help greatly appreciated.

Bacon Butty 07-19-2007 09:21 AM

I found three files in my /forum/vbseo_sitemap/data which look to be the sitemaps;

sitemap_index.xml.gz
sitemap_2.xml.gz
sitemap_1.xml.gz
sitemap.txt.gz

But I cannot add any of these into googles webmaster tools 'add sitemap'. Can anybody tell me were I am going wrong?

iojam 07-19-2007 06:23 PM

Boots,

do you have a new entry in reports list after manual generation?

What is the error you get?

Bacon Butty 07-19-2007 08:46 PM

Thanks iojan for trying to help.

Basically when i put sitemap_index.xml.gz in the google sitemap i get;

Quote:

General HTTP error: 404 not found
We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.
When i put this in the google sitemap i get;

forum/vbseo_sitemap/data/sitemap_index.xml.gz

Quote:

The Sitemap must be located at http://www.mysite.com/. To add a Sitemap at http://www.mysite.com/forum/vbseo_sitemap/data/, first add that site to your account and then click the Add a Sitemap link beside it.
Any ideas?

Simetrical 07-20-2007 04:36 AM

Is there/will there be any functionality to automatically exclude threads and forums that aren't readable to unregistered users? I've manually excluded most of them, but there are still some remaining and more will accumulate over time. I don't want Google wasting its time looking for things that, once it's parsed the <meta> tags, it will discover it's not supposed to index anyway.

iojam 07-25-2007 10:19 PM

Bacon Butty,

what is sitemap URL you are submitting?

Simetrical,

all non-visible to guests threads should be excluded automatically. Make sure that you use the latest version of vBSEO Sitemap Generator.

I didn't look at whether the threads were being excluded, but I saw that the forums themselves were being provided. That would, I guess, just lead to Google/Yahoo! getting a permission error. For instance, it included forum 151 (the admin forum) from my site. I excluded that, and a bunch of others, but it still includes the ones I didn't specifically include even if they're passworded or otherwise hidden. For instance, the URL http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=252 is passworded but still available in the sitemaps at http://www.twcenter.net/urllist.txt.gz (and presumably the Google site maps too).

iojam 07-26-2007 10:41 AM

Is it closed for reading for "Unregistered" in usergroup permissions?

Simetrical 07-27-2007 02:29 AM

Sorry, it seems I was mistaken. Forums set to be unreadable to unregistered users don't show up, as intended. There's no problem there. Passworded forums do seem to show up, but that's probably good (actually there's a passworded forum I go to that I tend to find by Googling its name). No complaints from me, then, thanks a lot for the extension.

iojam 07-27-2007 10:04 PM

Great!

wickland 08-11-2007 03:07 AM

wow, this hack really made things easy. I've never been able to create a sitemap before this hack! It was too complicated but now I got it.

Can you believe that Google picked up 383 of my forum URLs over 2 weeks but after I sent that sitemap, it picked up 1152 URLs in TWO MINUTES! f-ing hell, Google used to be the slow one haha.

Thanks for the hack, really appreciated. Although I still have to figure out this Yahoo Appid thing and try getting that to work

Installed
Best Regards

Does anyone know how to authenticate the Yahoo Application ID? Does it just sit there for a Yahoo guy to approve or am I supposed to upload the Unauthenticated ID to my server or something before it gets approved?

Thanks

Just do as it says, paste the code into your page.

blazingpc 08-12-2007 12:02 PM

I'm sure this has already been asked but there are 20 pages to this thread.

It works fine with Zoints SEO, at least without the mod-rewrite option, which isn't recommended in any case.

The yahoo application ID that you applied for? You go back to vB options > vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator > scroll down to Yahoo Application ID, and paste the long ID into the box. That's all.

So is this an unauthentic application ID that I use or does it have to be authenticated first?

If it does, how do I get it authenticated?

silverleaf 08-14-2007 07:05 PM

Went from 500 urls to 9700. Great Hack:up:

Michael2 08-15-2007 08:02 PM

It looks like the files are being saved in the /boards/vbseo_sitemap/data directory but Google is looking for them in the /boards directory. How do I change that?
