I became a script for a stand alone (without vbadvanced.. thanks(
but now:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /www/htdocs/v141979/page/scripts/slideshow.php on line 236

line 236:
$getnews = $db->query_read("SELECT threadid from " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread WHERE attach !='0' AND forumid in($forumid) ORDER by sticky DESC, threadid DESC LIMIT $limit");

fishhub 03-18-2007 04:57 PM

can this work for 3.5.x? This looks great!

Cajun 03-20-2007 12:54 AM

I have installed the mod but can not get it to look like other sites. See the image.

Lionel 03-20-2007 01:28 AM

you probably have some other css declarations with same name interfering

Cajun 03-20-2007 01:31 AM

so what do i need to look for

Lionel 03-20-2007 01:59 AM

at the bottom of the slideshow.php module you will find <div id=xx, the <div class=xx
those are what determine the display of the digits

I don't think you quite understood what I'm asking... what does your mod do to make it work / interact with the Joomla mod? I don't want to pay to download the Joomla mod only to see the specifics of how it does (from a site owner's perspective) what it does.

ZiG 03-21-2007 03:59 AM

I've got this running perfectly at the website in my sig

I could not get this module to work in vbPortal, the javascript was not working for some reason, and I was positive the filepaths were correct...so I gave up...

great mod though! thanks for all the help, sorry for the fusses

Lionel 03-21-2007 04:02 AM

I am glad you got it sorted out. Me I am about to drop it. I am currently working on the ultimate slideshow. But that will not be released. Too much hassle.

Lionel 03-23-2007 07:49 PM

here guys, if you want to see real slideshow. :D

Not for sharing.

you can kill me but you have to tell me :(

Very good job, Lionel. For all the great job you've done with that site, I can only admire you.

Lionel 03-24-2007 05:25 AM

I had to spend $29.00 to get it going. Folks here seem to be pretty upset and demanding when they have to dish out money. The initial configuration is tedious and took me 4 days. Thanks but no thanks, I have no more energy left to go over things, specially it would have to be customized per case. Given that some people have problems with simple modules, that one will definitely overwhelm them.

On a good note it can hold unlimited amount of pictures (I have 150 currently in there) and the site opens up instantly since it does not add one single query.

Anyone wants it, would have to pay me for the install, and 4 days of work is not cheap.

chickadee 04-26-2007 07:14 PM

Hi Lionel, I've installed everything as per your instructions, but for some reason I can't get the slideshow effect. When I click on any of the numbers or arrows, nothing happens. The first 'page' works (ie. I can click it and it takes me to the corresponding post), but I can't access any others.

Just so I'm clear, I'm supposed to make a new thread for every 'page' I want in the slideshow, and the latest attachment to the first post will be the image shown?

Also, I also don't have the solid grey bar at the bottom that stretches the length of the module like your attached images do. Mine only appears as the background for the numbers/navigation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for a great mod!

Sorry about all the questions, but I have to ask one more: is there a way to only display one 'loading' image, instead of one in the center and one at the top?

BadgerDog 05-01-2007 04:27 PM

Ok, I bought the "Frontpage Slideshow" component/module combo from JoomlaWorks.

I think I may have made a mistake, as the install instructions consisted of sending me Lionel's file (above) and saying thank you.... :D

Anyway, after reading most of the posts here 10 times, I think I have a basic grasp of this. I'm stuck at the question "Identifier" in the add PHP module function of vBa CMPS. I can't leave it blank as it won't accept that. What do I put in?

I followed Lionel's statement.... but make sure you select YES for clean file output and Use Module Shell Template: NO, but I thought I'd ask if there are any other surprises or fields I need to fill in?

I also set the access for Admin only, as I suspect this isn't going to go right the first time around. :p

I'm not sure I have my forums path set right, but we'll find out, if I can get past this stage.

Thanks for any help folks can give me here ...

Regards,
Badger

BadgerDog 05-03-2007 08:13 PM

Ok, does anybody have any idea what I do to clear up this?

The pic shows the result of running the PURCHASED (22 Euros) Joomla code along with Lionel's slideshow.php (provide by Joomla), pointing to a single forum with just one post in it that contains 5 attached JPG files.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Regards,
Badger

BadgerDog 05-03-2007 10:22 PM

Ok, got a little further.... ;)

See attached....

Now it won't load anything...

Badger

Did everything by the instructions, but get this error.

Quote:

Warning: fopen(/home/traderre/public_html/forum/clientscript/mod_fpslideshow/mod_fpslideshow.js) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /modules/slideshow.php on line 193

Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /modules/slideshow.php on line 194

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /modules/slideshow.php on line 195
It does pull one of the 3 images I uploaded in the selected forum (Image attached). The image shows up just below the error.

The error is falling on the line for the forum path. I know the forum path is correct because I uploaded a script.

http://www.traderretreat.com/forum/modules/pathinfo.php

This returned:

Quote:

/home/traderre/public_html/forum/modules/pathinfo.php
So I changed what you had to:

Quote:

("/home/traderre/public_html/forum/clientscript/mod_fpslideshow/mod_fpslideshow.js",'w');
Any ideas?

michaelsilvia 05-05-2007 04:44 AM

I just noticed something, my files came with 2 .js files.

fpss
fpss_uncut

What gives? There is no mod_fpslideshow.js

michaelsilvia 05-05-2007 05:24 AM

This may be the most frustrating mod I have dealt with. I run all the install, waste a full hour and then I am told "contact Joomla Works" by Lionel (thanks for the fast reply!). I go to the website and after some searching find this thread.
http://forum.joomlaworks.gr/index.php?topic=99.0

They tell you about it and say, "e-mail Joomla Works". Is there e-mail a secret? I had to do some searching of the site to find it. I will save you all some pain.

joomlaworks@gmail.com

Let me repeat this in plain English. When you buy the program from Joomla Works it will ONLY work with Joomla. Even though the company promotes this thread/mod and the integration with vBulletin, they DO NOT put the mod_fpslideshow.js file with the zip you download after purchase.

This was like a treasure hunt! I don't know why the company can't just add the file in a folder that says "vbulletin". Terrible business practice in my opinion. Hopefully this post will save some people time and Lionel should update this in the first thread so users don't have to read 18 pages to get to this.

Lionel 05-05-2007 05:28 AM

Read the first thread again

michaelsilvia 05-05-2007 06:59 AM

Here is your thread.

Quote:

Please note: Someone has posted a pirated version of the commercial mod on this thread. So I altered this zip to remove some key codes pertaining to the original developper and sent him the full zip. He will in turn release it to you with the javascript.
Am I suppose to translate that someone posted a pirated version here into something?

Quote:

To install, once you purchased the addon, upload the folder mod_fpslideshow and its content into the clientscript folder, making sure you chmod all the *.js to 777
Not here either. It says, "once you purchased the addon, upload the folder mod_fpslideshow and its content into the clientscript folder."

Is this encrypted language? Here is simple langauge:

"When you purchase the script you must then e-mail the devlopers at joomlaworks@gmail.com with your PayPal ID and they will send you the needed js file.

What am I missing?

Lionel 05-05-2007 07:08 AM

Well if you go to a joomla site and purchase a vb module, then God bless the vendor if he can guess that specific customer is a vbulletin customer.

michaelsilvia 05-06-2007 02:16 AM

Go back and read my thread. If they are going to promote that they work with VBulletin then they should include the file. Just make a folder that says "vBulletin Only".

I e-mailed them yesterday and still have not received the file. So, in summary YOU are promoting this without telling people there are steps that can take days before getting this to work.

There are business men and terrible businessmen. Making people beg for a javascript file is a terrible business practice. They are proud to announce that their script works with vBulletin, but make you e-mail them to get the file. It is nice for people conisdering using this mod for Vbulletin that you have to ask for the script and then wait days for it to arrive. Full disclouse is needed.

God bless the vendor? No! Adding common sense to the vendoer would be better.

Finally, I am providing you useful feedback. Being defensive and refusing to take inputs is also a bad practice.

Lionel 05-06-2007 03:50 AM

if you want I could tell him to refund you and you can forget about it. So why are you complaining here? Why don't you go and complain over there?

michaelsilvia 05-06-2007 06:09 AM

Just trying to give full disclosure so others don't go through my pain. No where in your first thread do you disclose that this could take days to accomplish. This seems fishy and a way for them to track how many people use vBulletin vice Joomla. Maybe a way to pay a commission to you? Why else would they require this terrible way of getting a mod to work with vBulletin?

By the way I still don't have the file. For those wanting to integrate this hack, know that you may have to wait days to actually get a single .js file to get it running. For some reason Lionel won't send it or attach to this thread. Makes you think.

Mike

Lionel 05-06-2007 07:26 AM

If no one installed it i could not care so i don't have to read non senses like yours.
In fact, me I am no longer using it myself, and not supporting it either. Got much better than that in my home. Maybe I should just remove it and save myself some aggravations?

Had you been smart when you purchased it, then you would have been all set. Now this is the week end, you have to pay for your lack of judgement and wait.

I hope you'll be able to install it without any problems, because you are on your own.

michaelsilvia 05-06-2007 08:02 PM

You are my hero. I am sure you are a great businessman with your charm and patience.

By the way, I still don't have the file.

Lionel 05-06-2007 09:37 PM

I hope you get them next year :-)

michaelsilvia 05-07-2007 11:19 PM

Quote:

I hope so also, that way people can see the true value of paying for this mod. It is 50-50% if you ever get the final piece to make it work, if you don’t mind wasting days of your time.

ZiG 05-17-2007 09:27 PM

hey lionel

i am redesigning my website and am still using this mod, however I would like to use the updated v1.4 version of the fps script coming from joomlaworks.org which feature the thumbnails underneath the slideshow, rather then the numbers to switch between feature stories.

i requested the updated version from joomlaworks and received the files in my mailbox today ( mod_fpsslideshow_1.4.zip and com_fpsslideshow_1.1.zip ). I'm assuming just like when i initially installed this script that the mod_fpsslideshow_1.4 contains the files that are necessary for me to get the updated script running on my website and that the com_fpsslideshow is irrelevant. my question to you is, the updated 1.4 comes with two files mod_fpsslideshow.php and mod_fpsslideshow.xml. I checked the php file and it didn't seem to have any of the vbulletin variables (forum id, limit, etc.) that your slideshow.php file has here.

from my understanding your slideshow.php file doesn't support the updated version with the thumbnails underneath and is outdated? i could be wrong, but will I need an updated version of your slideshow.php file in order to get this updated version of the script working properly with vbulletin integration? any help with this is appreciated as i understand you are no longer supporting this script, but I do want to update to the latest version available so please help me out a bit if its not too difficult and you have the time. thanks a lot, looking forward to a reply from you.

I just installed this mod and am getting this error message:

Quote:

Warning: fopen(/forums/clientscript/mod_fpslideshow/mod_fpslideshow.js) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /modules/slideshow.php on line 193

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /modules/slideshow.php on line 195
All other modules in the center column are not showing up and the script is not scrolling through the stories in the selected forum.

Anyone know what can be done to fix this?

SBlueman 06-09-2007 10:25 PM

Ok, I have this running on my site now and am running into some issues:

A) The block is showing up at the very top of my site over my DHTML menu and forum header.

B) Can I edit the link that says "Latest NFL Headlines" after [read more] to be on a separate line?

C) Can the images be set to align in the middle?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

All the html is set in the module

SBlueman 06-18-2007 05:03 AM

I am not seeing where to set it....and any attempts to do so end up in errors in IE where the entire slideshow is pushed to the far right on my main page. What in slideshow.php needs to be edited and how?

This is the HMTL part of the file:

Anyone know what can be done to fix this?

How did you fix this issue as I got the same?

Thanks, Frank
