Great product...easy install, Thanks!

Enyay 05-29-2007 02:48 PM

/me installs - great thanks!

girlboheme 06-07-2007 08:28 PM

I just wanted to let you know that I went from about 5 registering per day to 30 (still) and it's been six months. It quadrupled the member count we had after 1.5 years in just six months.

Thanks :)

HydraulicJack 06-08-2007 07:59 PM

This looks like a very elegant system!

I'm curious though as to what happens if an unregistered person visits the website
but blocks the cookie.

Is the forum then wide open for viewing unlimited thread / post content, or???

HJ

Ted S 06-08-2007 11:50 PM

The same thing that happens if a bot comes == there's nothing to count visits so they can keep on browsing.

HydraulicJack 06-09-2007 12:02 AM

Thanks very much Ted... I saw your post here after I'd ask you this in the PM you so graciously sent. All the best!

Thanks for this great MOD.

I was wondering besides the guests, whether Google, Yahoo! or MSN spiders are treated as guests or are they allowed to view any thread/forums infinite times?

Steve-EFC 06-10-2007 09:19 PM

Thanks alot, Wanting this kind of a mod for a long time!

AnaB 06-10-2007 11:00 PM

Great mod. Thanks so much. I have no idea how I hadn't seen this mod for so long.

AsilentFart02 06-11-2007 03:56 AM

Nvm, figured it out. Is there any way to get this to show up in the main forum section instead of just topics?

Ted S 06-11-2007 04:14 AM

Not without modifying the hack. This isn't meant to be a general message but rather to specifically address viewing posts.

Try the welcome header hack if you want to bug people everywhere.

ATP_JD 06-13-2007 07:04 PM

This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find for our forum. Actually, it's better than I imagined. INSTALLED

Thank you!

keyness 06-13-2007 11:24 PM

We already know that LGV increases the number of registrations. We can call this "direct benefit" of mod.

But in my opinion this mod also would increase the number of online users (and active users, as well) am i right? Because users who view threads as visitors (We know there are lots of users who is doing that) would log in after they received block message. In this way, this mod also would liven up the forum. They will log in, maybe they will reply some threads or create new ones, and posts number will increase too. So forum will be more active. And we can call this "indirect benefit" of mod. What do you think about this? Any experience?

And I'll install this mod. tomorrow. Thanks!

JodiSal 06-14-2007 12:05 AM

I would like to install this one but I have a question first.

Does this mod override what is already set for Unregistered users? We have our forum permissions set so that guests cannot view anything. We want to change that.

Nope. This doesn't change any permission settings.

Out of interest, how many of those actually come back again, as opposed to just register, view and then vanish again ?

Nope. But it's a pretty safe bet that they won't be affected.

:D who care we can annoy them with forum emails lool :p << !!!!

GrendelKhan{TSU 06-21-2007 10:48 AM

probably blind ...but I searched and didn't see it...

1. is there a way to make so it blocks the number of posts (pages) one sees in a particular thread? (eg: guest can only read first page of a thread or first 3 posts...then asked to register).

2. How DO you add a search bots if you have to? I have a few international search engines I need to NOT block...but not sure how I would add them.

suggestion: maybe future you add in admincp a simple way to add bots without having to go into the code? (like a box to add other bots in addition to the default ones this covers).

Ted S 06-22-2007 01:54 AM

GrendelKhan - To answer your questions.

1 - Nope.

2 - You don't have to. The system uses cookies, bots don't use cookies. If you did want to hardocde a bot in, you would edit the xml file (search for Google).

ORP 06-22-2007 04:09 PM

Yup yup. There are options in your vbulletin settings are to control how they work together.

A little patience goes a long way.

The tracking is done by cookies -- if you view 4 threads, change the settings to 2, and come back, you'll already be over the limit.

vitrag24 06-23-2007 11:20 AM

u rnt gettin my question

let me explain in simple way

if guest has viewd more than 4 threads once and then he login and then in his next visit as guest will reg. block/takeover msg be shown directly or after 4 threads only?
this is much imp question spl regarding reg.block msg..

ideally it shd be like each time guest can be able to view view number of threads set in acp... ..i think u have done that only but wanna confirm as i have no idea..

Ted S 06-23-2007 04:27 PM

Please use full sentances, I can't understand what you are saying.

You aren't getting my question. Let me explain in a more simple way (oh the irony):

If a guest has viewed more than four threads in one visit and then logs in, in his next visit as a guest will the Block/Takeover Message be shown immediately or after another four threads? *gibberish*

Ideally, the number of threads a guest can view each time (during each visit??) should be set in ACP. I think you have done this but I wanted to confirm because I have no idea.

LOL.

Good job with this! *Installed*
