I dunno. What's wrong?

Hi,

I just have a white screen here - http://phonexpo.net/worldmap.php

And the red X here - http://phonexpo.net/online.php

Hi.. awesome mod!

I have 1 question:

-Is there a way to remove the mouse over zoom effect and make the map a static size of 900px width? It would really look far better on my forums if the zoom effect was taken out.

Hope to get some feedback

This is great! I was searching vb.org for a mod like this but could never find out so you really have made my day !

Ron1n 03-24-2006 01:33 AM

this is a great mod - i really like this concept and the execution... no problems on any of my boards! i like the concept so much that i'm going to add this feature to a custom forum I wrote.

I believe the DP usermap is limited to the last 500 visitors. In any case, it's just a suggestion but you already have a great hack on your hands. Thank you!

Please someone help me with my question.

ie. yourforum/worldmap/geoip/GeoLiteCity.dat

If you havnt done that, I cant help you.

I followed all the steps and even double checked them. What does it mean to extract the .dat file? I just downloaded the file at maxmind and uploading it to worldmap/geoip/

ConqSoft 03-26-2006 09:26 PM

When you download it, it's gzipped. You need to extract the .dat file from the .gz.

In my FTP the file extension is dat.gz is that right"?

ConqSoft 03-26-2006 10:39 PM

No. You need to extract it. .gz is like a .ZIP file. It's compressed and has to be extracted.

How do I extract it?

ConqSoft 03-26-2006 11:34 PM

gzip -d [filename]

DementedMindz 03-27-2006 01:22 AM

lol open that thing up and drag the file out to your desktop and then upload the file inside.....

ConqSoft 03-27-2006 01:24 AM

..assuming you have an application installed on your PC that handles gzip... I know the latest WinZIP does.

It's faster to FTP the .gz file up to your server and extract it there though.

DementedMindz 03-27-2006 01:25 AM

yeah but thats only if you have ssh... which i doubt he does since he cant get this going.....

You're probably correct. ;)

DementedMindz 03-27-2006 01:29 AM

its way easier thats how i do most of my work.... ReadOrDie you have winrar??? cause he may not be able to extract it or something... can you open the file up????

overload7 03-29-2006 12:44 AM

I'm sorry if this issue has already been addressed, I skimmed the whole thread and didn't see too much discussion on it:

If I replace the map image files with a map of my demographic region, and name them all the same, will this hack still work?

I really like this hack, but don't want the whole world. Just the New England region. If replacing the image is not an option, is there any other way to get this done? It would be a huge marketing step for my site, since we would be able to see areas of New England that we need to concentrate on advertising in.

Thanks

ConqSoft 03-29-2006 01:14 AM

No, it won't work. It would require modifications to work with different maps.

ReadOrDie 03-29-2006 02:04 AM

Can someone please post careful directions? I have winrar but I don't know what to do. How do I extract the file?

DementedMindz 03-29-2006 02:09 AM

as posted before its really not that hard lol open that thing up(the rar) and drag the file out to your desktop and then upload the file inside.....

If anyone could make it possible, please let me know what compensation you would like. I do want to use this hack with a New England Map. States including: Connecticut, Rhode Island, Mass, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. PM me if you can make this possible. Thanks.

ReadOrDie 03-29-2006 03:13 AM

Ok now I only get one error:

Quote:

World Map Plotter

Fatal error: error traversing database - perhaps it is corrupt? in /worldmap/geoip/geoip.inc on line 418
I "extracted" the .dat file, but there's a possibility I didn't do it right. If anyone would like to post the attachment or help me fix me error that'd be nice. Thanks.

DementedMindz 03-29-2006 03:17 AM

its to big to attach

DementedMindz 03-29-2006 03:24 AM

how big is the file when you uploaded it?

No one even cares to tell me how to get it extracted. I keep pressing extract, extract, extract. I get the same results. I downloaded the file, then pressed the extract button in winrar but I still get the file thats 14.9 mb. Can anyone tell me what to do specifically?

P.S to the owner of this: You should also include how to extract in the directions. You should be more considerate, not everyone knows how to use winrar.

DementedMindz 03-29-2006 10:24 PM

lol wow its not to hard.... open the rar up..... like i said before drag the file inside out to your desktop after you drag it out to your desktop then you upload it.... its really not that hard if you know how to extract files from zips its the same thing... if this dont help google it... sorry man i explained it to many times...

Well ok for one let's start here. There is no .rar file. It's a GZ file.

DementedMindz 03-29-2006 10:48 PM

good luck :)
