I did have intentions to do so, but I have no idea when that will be. I saw HM666 has a request in the paid requests forum, so maybe he can get a developer to come up with something.

I have tried to get someone to come up with a versatile, paid, community newsletter for years, to no avail.

A newsletter really boosts the site's traffic.

Well there are a few out there, but none of them select posts/threads to send. Everything is manual, which IMO I prefer, as I like to have control of what goes out.

Which ones are 'out there'? Other than the ProvB/ModervB version which doesn't work and for which support is maddeningly nonexistent, I haven't found any options (and I have looked far and wide)...

I use, [DBTech] vBMail v2 (vB4) when I want to send out newsletters from my site.

BGObsession 01-01-2015 08:35 PM

That's a nice email mod, but not quite what most are looking for. If you could use variables to automatically pull the last 10 threads, most recent posts, blog entries, or articles, new member list, member birthdays, that kind of thing - it would be a beautiful thing.

ozzy47 01-01-2015 08:44 PM

You could ask them on their site to add it to the mod, and they might just do it at some point.

But TBH, I can see all kinds of issues arising by doing something like that. There would have to be all sorts of checks and balances in place, to ensure the info grabbed was the most desirable posts/threads etc.

Think about this, lets say a spammer manages to make it through your registration process, and posts 5 spam posts/threads. Now you or your staff don't see this yet, cause you are asleep. Now sometime during the night, your newsletter is generated and sent out. It has the potential of having links to the spam posts/threads in it.

Our site is still using ProvB, which i bought some time ago. It does allow you to select a number of threads from each forum. The member can unsubscribe in his profile options which is good. However, the interface isn't very sophisticated. You have to create your own header and message in HTML. Occasionally, it crashes the database. You can't schedule when it goes out, you have to sit there and run it page by page. ?

A good program should pull the header from the site, so that the newsletter has the look and feel of the forum. it should have an editing section where you can edit the message as you desire before it gets sent out. it should work on cron to allow you to schedule the newsletter in advance.

The Greek gu.y had a mod. it worked once, then died. He was very excitable and gave it to Ozzy.

We really need a good one. We get huge traffic when we send one out. I wouldn't hesitate to pay for something good.

Nah - that's easily overcome simply by giving you the option of manually sending out the newsletter. That's how the original ProvB version worked, so if you did have threads that weren't legitimate, you could clean those up prior to sending out a newsletter.

I'm no coder - everything I know is self-taught - but it just seems like that Dragonbytes email mod would be a super solid basis for setting up a newsletter template as the previous poster described - that included site banner image, and options to add things like recent threads, articles, blog entries, and articles. The ProvB format was pretty decent - the problem is that later versions either didn't work or were buggy as hell.

I would also pay for someone to create this. For all those coders looking for work - I have seen numerous folks request this and offer to fund it. Seems weird no one is interested in making some money :)

1. Is his license still valid even though you changed the domain?
Yes

2. Is this the same hack but the name changed?
We've had updates since right before the change and also have a pending update.

3. If it is the same and he would still have a valid license is it possible to get the latest version of the Pro version?

Sure is, we don't expire our licenses at the moment.
