you need to pay attention to individual pages such as a portal or index page

forums will have a high bounce rate if you have a lot of traffic (indexed pages) from SEs

The lower the better as people are staying and looking at the content of your site instead of just moving along to the next site. There was a video of a SEO specialist talking about bounce rate as being the most representative analytic. He was also saying that a number to strive for should be 30 to 35%.

Depends a lot. I have few sites with bounce over 50 but thats not stopping the site from earning. On the other end, I have a website with bounce under 20.
Bounce is important but is not everything. For example if you have ads on the site, clicking on them immediately after visiting your blog will be counted as bounce, but may still bring you cash.

I don't know if its a coincidence or not, but after moving similar threads to top, i stop having a daily bounce rate of 60% to start having a bounce rate of 2% .....
is it possible ??

google analytics says it...

My bounce rate (according to Google Analytics) is 8.80%.

Bounce rate on portal is 39%, forum 17%, wiki 9%, which seems quite good.

my bounce rate is pretty high: 60%.

bumping an old thread..

Can anyone share any practical tips about reducing the bounce rates.

My stats
  • Search Engines 210k visits (75.02%)
  • Direct Traffic 63k visits (19.68%)
  • Referring Sites 16k visits (5.30%)
  • Bounce rates 45%.
As you see from search engine referrals, my content is very relevant and I receive most of traffic from SE's but bounce rates for SE traffic only are even higher.

I've researched many articles/threads/blog posts and till now I had little success.

I appreciate any tips from other vBulletin developers.

Thanks.
