Since switching to PHP 5 the location on "Who is online" is everytime wrong.
User is on index.php, but "Who is online" is showing the user is on vbshout.php! Any suggestions?

Please help, thanks.

How would I go about getting the Shoutbox on another page, other than FORUMHOME? Simply including $Shoutbox in the template doesn't seem to work :(

FRANKTHETANK 2 02-19-2007 07:04 AM

is there any way to add a time that the person chatted in the box

Shazz 02-19-2007 01:08 PM

It should be in this one automatically

Frank don't you play Battlefield2142? If so, I believe I have played with you. Go to www.thepublicenemy.net if you have and hit me up. I can't send you a private message because you haven't enabled it here.

I just got an alarming letter from my host complaining that this script is eating up bandwhith and resources. Does anyone have any idea why that would be?

afmarko99 02-20-2007 06:16 PM

Optimize tables?

I have 6 terabytes of bandwith a month so I don't think they will be notifying me anytime soon either way.

Actually this is what they say. Maybe I mis interpreted it

We've noticed your site using a lot of server resources and in particular it appears to be the script below causes a higher than allowed CPU resource usage. Do you know what may be causing this and how it could be rectified? Thank you for your cooperation

Top Process %CPU 29.5 httpd [www.binarytechzone.com] [/vbshout.php]
Top Process %CPU 29.0 httpd [www.binarytechzone.com] [/vbshout.php]
Top Process %CPU 26.3 httpd [www.binarytechzone.com] [/vbshout.php]

Does that make any sense to anyone? lol

I've done what you suggested but see no change. What would happen if I use the repair function? Do I lose any data? Or does it change any mods or whatever on the site?

Jorrit787 02-20-2007 06:25 PM

The Shoutbox uses a LOT of resources because its AJAX functions check every so many seconds to see if there are new shouts.

I don't see what difference optimizing tables would make.

da420 02-20-2007 06:36 PM

For those having problems with the shout box using too many resources I would check out the 2.1 version found at www.vbhackers.com as it uses a flatfile instead of pulling directly from teh database.

I really love the time stamp feature almost a must to have. What gets me is that this just started happening in the last week or so. Its been installed on my board for quite sometime now. And I went to look at the other one you posted. Why does he claim that VB broke this version? The other version doesnt seem like it has any other benefits other than being flatline. I have this version running on a few sites without any issues of this nature.....

I did just read that my host upgraded the MySql could that be a cause?

The time stamp can be hard coded in to the shout box, and a user has explained how to in the vBShout 2.1 thread at vbhackers.

The whole advantage is the flatline, which in my opinion, is a lot better solution than directly accessing the shouts from the database, and will be 1/10th the resource hog. The moment I installed it, I noticed this.

Highly unlikely, mine was the same way. It could be because you have not cleared your shout archive lately.

That's between ZT and vB admins. I do not have any information on this.

rjmjr69 02-20-2007 07:42 PM

Ok awesome as long as I have the time stamp I am happy. I will check it out I thank you very much for the info.

How do I clear the shout archive?

PS. I was just curious as to what was going on didnt expect you to have the info.....lol

da420 02-20-2007 07:44 PM

To clear your shout archive type '/prune' into the shout box and hit enter. ;)

Clear your shout archive.

Or you can look at my post above yours for the flat file version which is a lot less resource intensive.

mrcrx 02-22-2007 11:19 PM

I have the flatline version and I clear about 10,000 shouts out every few hours. Any other ideas?

Jorrit787 02-22-2007 11:39 PM

<font color="Red">* Uninstalled and installed the flat-file version.</font>

already have the flate-file version 2.1 running. Someone has to have a way to keep this running without crashing both apache and mysql. anyone???

Needled 02-23-2007 02:24 AM

Well, sorry if this has been answered already, but how do you fix the shout box to be able to use symbols?

rjmjr69 02-23-2007 02:42 AM

hhhmmm pretty sure you should be able to run it no problem I would redo your install making sure you follow the directions very closely. And I would think this is not the proper place to ask for support for that version considering it was not released here.

anyone know a way of doing this?

The point of this would be to keep the top ten shout count that users have accumulated without having to keep the large database table

mat.knott 02-23-2007 03:26 PM

in the last pic it shows moderation im guessing.. where would i find this?

Um, That would be the archive.
Just click on the title "Shoutbox" or whatever you have it and it will take you there :)

mat.knott 02-23-2007 07:41 PM

thnx :)

other problem i seem to have is since installing this, every now and then my site just freezes for me and no link does anythink. i hve to close IE and reopen it and hten i can access my site again

Shazz 02-23-2007 07:49 PM

That would most likely be a shoutbox problem on your site
is it just this shoutbox mod that has done it? Could be a low use of host.

If you IM me I can help you out

killerkraft 02-25-2007 11:49 AM

Installed under 3.6.4 and seems to work fine.

KK

kunninmindz 02-25-2007 04:27 PM

I have forum version 3.6.4 but not happy that this shoutbox doesn't work in a standalone iframe, althought it works directly on the forum, but we'd also like it to work in a standalone iframe, if this can be done. Can someone let me know

sally27 02-25-2007 04:30 PM

I have just installed on 3.6.4 and so far have had no problems.
