The instructions are a tad vague for an extremely casual website mistress like myself. Where exactly do I upload the "chat and includes" folders to? I have a somewhat unusual installation. My web root is the directory for my forum, thus you get to my vBulletin board by going to:
http://mysite.net The chat folder that came with Flashchat was uploaded directly to this root, located at: http://mysite.net/chat Furthermore, the includes folder for my vBulletin installation is in that same directory: http://mysite.net/includes If I follow the instructions for flashchat integration and simply upload the folders named "chat" and "includes" that cam with this mod, I'm going to be overwriting a LOT of php scripts and other files installed by vBulletin and Flashchat that seem vitally important to the board. Where, then, should these folders go in an installation like mine? |
You are making an incorrect assumption - you will not overwrite everything that is already in those existing folders, as the filenames are different - all that will get overwritten (correctly) is one file.

Hi Paul. Thanks for the reply and explanation.
The old addage, "You learn something new everyday" certainly applies here, as does "better late than never"! I am a newcomer to dealing with my own website but certainly not a newcomer to computers, having built my own systems for 7 years, tweaked operating systems for high performance in video editing, successfully dealt with rather complext driver issues from the pre-windows 98 days, etc. And through all of this, I completely believed that if I drug a folder called "X" into a directory where there is already a folder called "X", I would completely overwrite the destination folder "X" and all of its contents. I didn't realize until a few moments ago, when I tested this, that only the files in the destination folder that had the same names as those in the moved "X" folder would be overwritten. Have I truly been under a rock on this issue for 10 years, or was there a prior version of windows that in fact did not selectively overwrite in this fashion? I understand if you don't feel like replying, I'm just curious at how I ever acquired the belief that things worked differently. |
It has been the case on windows for as long as I've been using it (since 1994) - and was also the case on my older RISC OS.

How can I get rid of all the rooms and just have one main room? Where do I find that?

I Have a small problem. I purchased & installed flashchat, Then used Paul M's integration mod & it works perfectly. Thanks Paul :)
Today i purchased the Desktop Skin (formerly Amfichat) & installed it. It also runs perfectly. outside of vbulletin. My problem is the "Flashchat" link in the navbar still points to the the original flashchat. How do i change this to the amfichat? Many thanks :) |
