Don't think he was talking about detaching it, but putting a link on the navbar to link to the box but as it is only the main page I said no need for it

Anyone got any idea how I disable this Shoutbox on pages where it displays a vBulletin Message such as below?

This particular Message is from "Force Usergroups to Read Thread"

Thanks

Is there any chance of configuring the app so that the txt that you are entering is below the box and not to the right? Or any chance of making both windows adjustable?

Good App for sure!

I just installed this today. My one big question is where and how can I set a shoutbox to a specific forum in vB 4? In other words, what template and where in it do I modify to add the var to add the instance to specific forum?

Also, can it be added to the frontend CMS? If so, how?

swescape 02-18-2015 02:41 AM

My question is, how do I remove all the fun stuff for certain usergroups? font colors/font size/bold/italic

and maybe decide default chat colours and stuff like that for specific usergroups?

To put vBShout in a custom location, do the following:

Step 1: AdminCP -> DBTech - vBShout-> Instance Management -> [Edit].

Step 2: Change the Auto-Display Shoutbox setting to Disabled.

Step 3: Write down the the Varname setting. For the default shoutbox, it's instance1. The rest of this guide will assume you replace instance1 with the actual Varname if it is different.

Step 4: Enter the Style Manager and add either {vb:raw show.vbshout_instance1} (vB4) or {$show[vbshout_instance1]} (vB3) to the templates you wish the shoutbox to appear in.

Follow these steps as described and you will have total control over the position of the Shoutbox.
Please note that some locations may not work as intended on vBulletin 3.8, and also note that it is not designed to go in the Forum Blocks side-bar (vBulletin 4).

Instance Management, you can disable shout controls from there :)

Hi people, as I can make him change time format on chat? try everything but can not find

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2015/03/32.png

Alan_SP 03-07-2015 07:46 AM

It's setting on global level, AFAIK.

You need to choose how time is shown in your posts. Same format will apply to vBShout too.

mykkal 03-07-2015 08:48 PM

Can I use this shoutbox externally too? My forum is inside of a subdirectory but I have a main index page. I'd like to call the shoutbox to our index page as well.

Something like this: http://castcaller.com/

Guest210212002 03-29-2015 01:16 PM

I'm considering the pro version of this - but before I install, does it do any integration out of the gate? I only want this on a separate page for chatting, not anywhere else on my forums (under the navbar, etc). I'd just like to make a Chat tab that points to it and have my users click it if they want to chat, that's all.

Does the basic install do any automatic template edits, other than the footer branding?

The Shoutbox does have a detached mode, but it still contains the vB header & footer. There is no embeddable version of the SB at this time.

You would need to create that link manually after disabling the automatic deployment :)

Is there anyway to change the colour of the chatbox header bar to the same as used elsewhere in your forum?

DragonByte Tech 04-06-2015 04:57 PM

vBShout v6.2.8

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed an issue where chatrooms the user had not been invited to could still be read by manually requesting the data

This happens automatically, it uses the same CSS class as all other headers of its type.

Why not update it here ?

By the way I tried from his site & it gives me error/invalid when download :erm:

dknelson 05-03-2015 11:46 AM

I agree. If people are going to release their mods here then they should keep them updated here as well. I sincerely appreciate the coders here who all add so much to the VBulletin experience and I have paid for pro versions of more than one mod here, including two or three from Dragonbyte. I've even paid some coders here for some custom work. The fact is though, they get more exposure releasing their mods here than they could anywhere else. I'm glad and they deserve it but if they are going to take advantage of the great exposure, they should also keep their mods updated here as they are developed.

Alan_SP 05-03-2015 06:02 PM

DBTech has a policy of testing their mods for about a week before it makes them available here on vborg.

They do that because they want to eliminate the most obvious bugs before posting new versions here. On their site they can relatively easy sort errors, here it is much complicated process.

If some of you really want the latest version (i.e less than a week old), you need to go to their site. On the other hand, if you can wait one week and let others do "heavy" testing, wait one week.

You decide.

You can try using the custom deployment feature in the Instance Manager, see if that works :)

Like Alan says, it's a measure I introduced for my mods (not all DBTech coders follow it) in order to weed out the most obvious issues. 99% of times it's fine, but that one time when a serious issue occurs, I can't as easily scramble to fix it.

To fix an issue @ DBTech: Fix file, commit changes to source control system (SVN), tell SVN to push changes to release. Done.
To fix an issue @ vB.org: All of the above, download Lite version, open vB.org, find thread(s), edit thread, remove attachment, upload new attachment, save. Done.

As you can tell, there's around twice as many steps. Of course, there are measures I could take to make this process easier. I could create some form of "release builder" that would automatically prepare a Lite version and allow me to upload it quickly.

That being said, there's also the fact that over @ our site, we've built ourselves a community of people who are quick to jump on new versions of our software, and will report issues in a clear and concise manner with all required information.

In other words, it's the difference between someone saying "hey I installed the new version and now it doesn't work!" and someone saying "hey I installed the new version, and I now receive the following error message: <some error here> when trying to access <some page>"

To be absolutely clear, I'm not saying that Person A is "bad" or "wrong" in any way. Their report just doesn't contain all the information I need in order to fix it quickly and efficiently. If their timezone differs from mine, it might take 18-24 hours before I can address their issue to everyone's satisfaction.

The "regulars" over @ DBTech know by now how I like my bug reports, and as such they deliver them to me in ways that allow me to fix the issue pretty much as soon as I see the report notification.

This leads me on to my next point; vBulletin.org's notification system for thread replies is not brilliant.
If I don't visit a thread in question, I don't receive notification of future replies to the thread until I visit the thread.
If two people post new support tickets @ DBTech, I receive notification of both.

All of this put together is the reason why I chose to wait a week. Hopefully it makes more sense to you now :)

That is good If it is a new feature

but security issues & important bug fix must be done fast

Thanks again to this coder

Alan_SP 05-07-2015 04:46 PM

I'm sure if a serious bug is spotted (and solved, of course), it gets propagated here immediately, as DBTech's history already showed.

Honestly not sure if I'm blind, but I'm looking in there and not seeing an option to turn it off. Thanks for helping by the way. :)

I have the pro not sure if the light has it best to let the coder reply or post on their site for a faster reply

Code Geass 06-01-2015 07:29 PM

There is more important features missed in this product

Is to allow to shout not only by groups but also after reach a specific number of posts / threads and it will be good also if there is option for "X" days after registeration date

Because I want to make our members can shout but only restricted to high posts members only to avoid spam and abuse
