Yes, I use a custom style
the black background appreared is the same of footer background, comming from here

I can't notice any relation between the awards system, profile background and footer background

(Customize profile) is a new feature added in version 4.0.8

When you use custom profile (change the profile colors), the awards tab will still the same, I mean the color of awards tab in the profile could not be changed. :)
