maybe you should of read the thread :(

jugo 09-30-2005 06:25 PM

Is there a way to create a post with a digest...like a bunch of headlines in one post as opposed to a whole bunch of posts from one feed.

Kirk Y 09-30-2005 06:28 PM

Would require changing the plugin code... and I dunno Visionz, it works for me. It'd be nice if Zero would support this hack.

It is very simple...this hack does not work on 3.5 Gold

While attempting to parse the document located at "http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/front_page/rss.xml" the system encountered the following error:

Invalid URL To RSS Feed Given

Please check settings related to this issue.

I'm running into the exact same problem. In fact, I ran into a similar problem using phpBB and their "FIND" system on "DreamHost". The funny thing is, I help out on another site running phpBB on "Powweb" and it works like a champ. So I decided to do some investigating, and it turns out that "DreamHost" has disabled the "allow_url_fopen" functions in PHP. They say it's a security risk, and several RSS fetching programs would be affected. Furthermore, they are predicting that most host providers will disable this function as well. Apparently there is some way to use cURL to get around this, but I'm *TOTALLY* clueless when it comes to PHP. I have NO idea how to implement this, as to make this code work.

So I'm really hoping somebody is willing to pick up this project, and can design a workaround using cURL as a fall-back (or something to that effect). Not to mention troubleshooting the other problems some of you are running into now that you are GOLD. Until then, I'll just keep an eye on here and cross my fingers.

Take it easy
KidneyBoy

thetoolman 10-01-2005 07:43 AM

is there an alternative rss script?

ecarabin 10-01-2005 09:29 AM

It's working on my Gold version very well...

Same error

TheMusicMan 10-01-2005 11:14 AM

Well, I added this Plug-in on vB 3.5 Gold with the example RSS settings from the BBC and it works a treat.

I'm off to find relevant feeds for my forum... what a corking way to get content. Superb, thanks

really?

then mine working fine must be a miracle of modern science!!

(apart from the dupes), but thats not version specific

Kirk Y 10-01-2005 02:16 PM

It works on 3.5.0... just not for you and some other people. Because it works fine on mine and apparently on Gizmo's.

thedvs 10-01-2005 02:34 PM

getting the same on my 3.5.0g

Fatal error: Unable to proceed with save while $errors array is not empty in class vb_datamanager_thread_firstpost in /includes/class_dm.php

I get the same here....

I get the same thing. It's obviously a combination of a configuration setting and the 3.5 Gold upgrade that is doing it.

adb22791 10-01-2005 04:50 PM

So this is basically the same as Article Bot, exept without all the features..?

Dream 10-01-2005 09:28 PM

same error here, had to disable the scheduled task

interfx 10-01-2005 09:39 PM

So does this hack

- Work on VB3.5.0
- Fixed Duplicate Issues???

Thanks, still looking for a robust solution...

On some boards, yes. On others, no...

jluerken 10-02-2005 03:02 PM

When I click on UPDATE FEED I get this:

PHP Code:

Fatal errorUnable to proceed with save while $errors array is not empty in class vb_datamanager_thread_firstpost in /includes/class_dm.php on line 758

You and every other person that's posted in this thread... almost, anyway.

Having this problem as well.

hobbes747 10-03-2005 07:21 AM

Me too. After my upgrade to Gold.

It's happening to feeds that have updates. The empty ones are fine.

Edit: It gives me an error, but it still posts the thread.

berberber 10-03-2005 10:32 AM

Just dont use it with cron jobs, just manually from time to time, its already good help

Bernhard

offline 10-03-2005 03:09 PM

I am having the same problem, even manually. Is there another mod that will do the same thing or a fix on the way?

Thanks!!

Sanjiyan 10-03-2005 04:20 PM

Does this support rdf feeds? I used to use Articlebot but now I have upgraded to 3.5 vB and now it wont work, so I thought I would try this.

But I cant get any settings when I point it to the RDF/RSS feed.

Well, it works on mine for 1 of my feeds, but fails on another, where on RC3, both of them worked fine. Something has changed enough in 3.5 Gold that causes problems. The error message is WAY too ambigious to tell us what the problem is.

The main difference between my feeds, is that one of them is has some ?'s and &'s in the URL, and the other one is a straight URL to the .xml file. I doubt that this would be the cause of the problem, but you never know.

Kirk Y 10-03-2005 06:52 PM

Yeah that would. As I said in an earlier post, this hack won't support dynamic URLs. It's gotta be a straight-forward .xml or .rss feed, not .php?feed=xml.

trilljester 10-03-2005 08:11 PM

Interesting, as the dynamic URLs worked fine for me in 3.5RC3, but are now broken in 3.5 Gold.

This is just broken overall.

I was testing out the feed using http://thesims2.ea.com/sims2_exchange/news.xml

That is NOT a dynamic URL.

jluerken 10-03-2005 09:00 PM

I tried to uninstall the product but this is also not working.
The entry stays in the admincp.

How can I get rid of this hack?

Fatal error: Unable to proceed with save while $errors array is not empty in class vb_datamanager_thread_firstpost in /includes/class_dm.php on line 758

Vizionz 10-04-2005 04:46 AM
