True. It might. But there is a certain principle here. We have a group of Admins and we have agreed to vote on installations, modifications and anything else major for the site. This was installed by one Admin with no discussion. So most of the others have agreed it should be removed.

The version we have is Miserable Users 2.01. So, if this is a simple one click uninstall and removing it won't cause the board to have any problems, then that's what the majority have agreed should be done.

As mentioned before, it is.

Hi

I am trying to upload the Miserable User Hack but it keeps saying

XML Error: syntax error at Line 2

I am importing it as a product. The file is called

Miserableuser.xml

Any idea why it won't work?

Thanks

P.S Great idea for a hack by the way.

Paul M 12-22-2005 07:24 AM

Download it again, sounds corrupted to me.

Raydar 12-22-2005 07:42 AM

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your suggestion.

I tried that and got this message.

XML Error: xml declaration not at start of external entity at Line 1

Any idea what that means?

Thanks

Reg

Paul M 12-22-2005 08:05 AM

None whatsoever, how are you downloading the file, and how are you installing it ?

Raydar 12-22-2005 08:09 AM

lol, I can already feel my stupidity coming on :(

I click the install button. A page opens up showing the code. I copy and paste that code into a text editor (wordpad) and name it miserableuser.xml.

This is what I am trying to upload as a product. This is very wrong isn't it? :ermm:

Thanks again Paul

Reg

Paul M 12-22-2005 08:22 AM

Copy/paste is screwing it badly - right click on the file and choose "save as" (or equivelent) to save it to your pc.

Raydar 12-22-2005 08:28 AM

Wooops!

Thanks for the support Paul, it worked straight away.

Have a great holiday season.

Reg

Installed this last night. It's too cruel so I cut back on the torture and it's still like hiking uphill in the mud with a heavy pack. Genius

Thanks

AquilaEagle 12-30-2005 05:49 PM

Hahaha!! sounds great

Bluetiereign 12-31-2005 05:46 PM

I'm using vbPortal. It keeps sending my test 'miserable user' to a page that says

Quote:

you would need to provide your own index.php if they don't have to use the home module, because the index.php included with vbportal, just sends them here.
Any suggestions ? I really like this... :devious: ..and want to use it... but this printout is too much of a clue that something is up.

Try putting the redirect page in as http://www.checkpointdelta.com instead of /index.php. You can send them to any URL you want though.

I tried that, and it didn't work. However keeping the member a member of their current group and making them a member of the targeted (secondary) group did.

Thanks for your help..

Installed. lol.

Installed. lol.

That's how we do it as well.

sportsoutlaw 12-31-2005 10:42 PM

Afer having his installed for quite a while, I may actually have a use for it now. tested it on a test user and it works perfectly

cdoyle 12-31-2005 11:20 PM

Oh this is the funniest thing I've ever seen. INSTALLED!

Edog 01-04-2006 02:23 AM

I been testing this and I keep getting a similar reaction. The page will just hang and never go anywhere. Granted this is one of the things it will do but that is all it ever does. These are with default settings and tweaked. Never does a redirection no matter what percentage I set it to.

scootman 01-06-2006 07:01 AM

<font color="Blue">Install</font> ,This is a very great hack thanks

samu2 01-09-2006 05:54 AM

samu2 01-09-2006 06:16 AM

Duh! save targert as.Hey,it is only 8.am,Im tired LOL

neutek 01-09-2006 01:06 PM

+install

NexDog 01-11-2006 11:44 AM

Great idea, installs. :)

SpeedRacer 01-11-2006 01:27 PM

This is an AWESOME hack! Thank you!

I have only one small issue. One of my "miserable users" just happens to be a Super Moderator. When SM's click to edit a profile, or their own, they can see the list of primary and secondary usergroups in profiles. Therefore, I gave the new usergroup a non-descript name so as not to arouse any suspicions from the other mods. Is there a way to "hide" that usergroup from being in a users profile options? Or is there a way to make them a miserable user without them or other mods being able to see that they are in a secondary usergroup? Otherwise, this has been a BARREL OF LAUGHS!! :devious:

Paul M 01-11-2006 05:00 PM

You cannot hide the usergroup - and TBH I would seriously question why someone you want to make miserable is a Super-Moderator ?? BTW, if you require support, please click "install".

Jeminemt 01-11-2006 05:08 PM

haha i made one of my mods a miserable user, but only to test it out. i love it, thanks man

The list of reasons is long and distinguished... it's just a little retribution for many things this person has done, and the many knives sticking out of my back. Actually, it's only used as a "mute" button for them. :ninja:

Oh, and <clicks install> :devious:

Paul M 01-11-2006 06:00 PM

Your could add his ip to the miserable ip list.

Well this they are on their way out of the position and the board... it's just a matter of time. But this will make the time pass with a little more satisfaction. :devious:

Breeze 01-12-2006 03:17 PM

Thanks, Great Hack! Way better than just banning them.

I would love to see a log page of exactly what a miserable user suffered. :D

wolfyman 01-12-2006 03:19 PM

HAHA! That would be absolute comedy :D

Edog 01-13-2006 03:12 AM

Anyone confirm the redirection working? I couldnt ever get that part to work with me testing or anyone. .

Paul M 01-13-2006 03:16 AM

Yes, it works fine for me.

Itzbenreel 01-13-2006 06:03 AM

I can think of some many people this will come in handy for...

*Clicks Install*

Julie 01-14-2006 01:40 PM

Genious! :D I love it! Thanks! *off to make a horrible looking skin for these lovely people.. mwhahahha*

Oo, that gave me an idea... Any way to add a little, say, 10% of the time they'll get another skin? (where we provide skin id(s))? :D

aitonk 01-14-2006 03:45 PM

Dude I love this mod soooo funny

Rakehel 01-16-2006 04:18 PM

OK, I'd like this and am going to ask a stupid noobie question. When I attempt to install I get this message (can't find a topic on it here using search.):

Quote:

XML Error: xml declaration not at start of external entity at Line 1
What is this telling me? Should I try putting it on the server first and then upload it via the product manager, rather than uploading directly from my machine?

Paul M 01-16-2006 04:27 PM

Are you sure you are trying to upload it as a product, not a plugin ?

Also, how did you save it on your pc ?

Rakehel 01-16-2006 09:39 PM

Thank you for the insight Paul. I had saved it incorrectly. It is now installed and ready to go! :)

reverse1312 01-22-2006 02:00 PM

I love this Hack !

If I may, a little suggestion :

Some users are very vicious and change their login easily, erasing cookies and having changing IP at every new connexion. We have to make them "miserable" at each new account.
I assume it is possible to target specific users more precisely on basis of recognizing OS, graphic resolution and some other criteria which limit error possibilities.
Do you think it would be a good idea (and not too complicated) to implement it on your (already so good) plugin ?
