In settings - you have a choice of script to stick ads in. At least one of those needs to be ticked.

Furthermore, in each banner, you can choose which script it appears on (from the ticked global list). At least one of those needs to be ticked.

Lastly - when you run a test - a script has to be chosen that would have a banner appearing in it. Otherwise no banner gets pulled.

Update.

Thought I would take a minute to update you on the progess. There has been very little - but there has also been a lot ;)

Basically - I have spent the last week re-writting GAL in order to bring it in line with what I am trying to do with GAB. I am almost there and its looking real sweet. However it has caused me to rethink my approach to GAB.

Basically, I am going to finish GAL4.0 and release it. Then I am going to complete GAB as the core banner system. I will then put out a new hack that will tie the two together to allow admins to create packages to sell on their site that consists of GAB banners and/or GAL links.

My question is - do you guys feel that the GAB system operating soley as an admin controlled system works to your liking? If so I should be able to wind up a final version of GAB shortly after GAL is done for final release.
I can then focus on a stand alone module that ties the two together.

Thoughts?

The Geek 04-29-2005 03:14 PM

Hrely or visions - if either of you want to PM me login details with admincp access Ill look into it for you

Lionel 04-29-2005 03:16 PM

id put it on the first line of the template so it appears above the navbar/breadcrumb section.
Personally, I think it looks better UNDER the navbar, but if you use any flash ads, it covers the drop downs.

king zell 04-29-2005 07:08 PM

I got this messege when I tried to upload a banner :

Quote:

Warning: copy(./gab/tg-tile-dsrpgsara-pinky.gif): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /admincp/GAB_admin.php on line 716

Just finished reading the 200+ post/story of GAB and could hardly wait for the ending. I would like to raise my hand with a vote for a user interface to upload/manage banners sooner than later. I will be using GAB as part of a business forum where paying members will have one banner rotated as part of their member benefits. Banners would ideally be associated with one member and stop when their membership (paid subscription) ends.

This looks like a fine piece of work and I look foward to installing it when a user interface is completed. The Geek - do you accept donations for your work? If this works as I think it will then you would deserve it.

djjeffa 04-30-2005 02:35 AM

got it to work but have a glitche with the :want to advertise with us? link is there a way I could make it go to a thread ill make to explain how to get a banner on my site?
and also when i do stuff is says could not find gab save setting how could i fix this mannually?

Watson 04-30-2005 07:18 AM

really interested in this also, and the idea of allowing users to upload in exchange for paying membership really appeals to me also

The Geek 04-30-2005 07:30 AM

TO be honest - quite a bit of the UI stuff is now done.
I think it would go much faster and easier though to decouple GAB from the UI perks.
That way we can all be happy that one works to our liking and then focus on the next bit. People not wanting the UI wouldnt need it.

Hope this makes since. I think its the way I am going to go. Otherwise I think GAB will actually take longer to get out there.

dj- dont worry about the gab_settings phrase bit. Its fixed in the next release and doesnt interfere with anything. The colon is in GAB_ad template. Change it to whatever you want there.

... and if I may elaborate as to why I agree - A good banner manager, such as phpadsnew, can be installed and integrated into vBulletin in short order to give admin full featured ad controls. I've got that down. The real appeal of this to me is tying it into usergroup permissions with even a very simple user interface. That would be something found nowhere else. I would contribute to the completion and do a handstand over that.

The Geek - (or anyone) Are the screenshots still accurate or have there been changes since they were posted? Is there any UI at this point? And - whichever way you see fit to complete this is fine by me. I'll stay tuned for updates.

Is there a way to setup multiple adds in one add display?
Say I have adds that are only 200pix wide.. and my forums are 600pix wide and I would like to put 3 adds in one banner spot..
Would this be possible?

if you do $add1 $add2 $add3 it will put 3 full banners there with the frames around it.. can the Add frame be removed as a variable?

Thanks!
Russ

depending on your settings, GAB will producr a $GAB_ad{x} for each return.
You can stick these where you want.
If you are trying to get multiple ads side by side - that would require some tweaking of the GAB_ad template to remove the table around it. You would have to most likely stick that that in another template to wrap around the results.
Ill see if there is a way I can do that in the next release.

king zell 04-30-2005 09:42 AM

can I remove "want to advertise with us?" from the banner?

The Geek 04-30-2005 11:05 AM

Though punishable by imprisonment and tourture - go for it.
That side of things isnt active yet anyway ;)

Just edit gab_ad

DougM 04-30-2005 12:07 PM

OK, I'm geeting this on admincp index

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '=' in /home/batter/public_html/offers/admincp/index.php on line 581

... and have read "remove the http there" but find no http there? Can anyone help to track down the cause of this?

... or "just add $printhr = false there it shud work"

But where do you add "$printhr = false" exactly?

Thank you.

EDIT : After trial and error I just removed = false; on thre line 581, 594 and 601. I also tried replacing them with $printhr = false. Either way the parse errors were gone.

I now have three GAB control menus in admincp. Have tried uninstall and reinstall with same result.

CosmicBlend 04-30-2005 04:41 PM

I dont know if this is a bug or not, but i noticed after i added a banner to rotation.. when you click on the banner it does not follow the link you provide. It just goes to http:// thats it... also the phrasing after adding a banner does not work correctly, and i have done the edit and save thing with phrases.

m0nde 04-30-2005 05:15 PM

My Admin Control Panel was missing phrases, but I've fixed that.

Now that I'm in...

I get this at the top of the "Settings" Control Panel page:
Code:

<td class="tfoot" colspan="2"
and the "SAVE" and "RESET" buttons are missing at the bottom.

On the "New Ad" Control Panel page:
Code:

<input type="submit" class="but
appears at the bottom and again the "SAVE" and "RESET" buttons are missing.

"Display Packages" results in the following mySQL error:
Code:

Database error in vBulletin 3.0.7:

Invalid SQL: SELECT * FROM forum_GAB_packages ORDER BY ordinal, title,id asc
mysql error: Table 'bostonlove.forum_gab_packages' doesn't exist

mysql error number: 1146

"Add Package" has no "SAVE" and "RESET" buttons at the bottom.

"Display Frequency" Control Panel works! "SAVE" and "RESET" are available and all is wonderful.

"Add Frequency" Control Panel works too! "SAVE" and "RESET" are available as well.

The testing Control Panel seems to be working and shows the following:
Code:

Problem You have no usergroups set to actually view ads. Check your settings.
Problem You have no scripts set to actually host ads! Go back to your settings bad boy.
Potential Problem There are no forumids to show ads if the script is showthread or forumdisplay.

"SAVE" and "RESET" buttons show up on this page as well.

I'm eager to try this hack in beta, but I need a bit of help.

eXtremeTim 04-30-2005 09:17 PM

how about the ability to handle ads like google adsense?

Rich 04-30-2005 10:29 PM

Hello,
Without a doubt, I will be using this system. Lets see, I have the Article System, the Autolinks System, and Now the Banner Advertising.

The Geek hits a hatrick!
*Rich hits install!

Watson 04-30-2005 11:51 PM

dont really wanna install this in the b3ta, cause I am uselss at coding, and prolly wont be much help, but I am defo keeping my eye on this topic :)

The Geek 05-01-2005 12:01 AM

Doug - you will have to manually remove your extra admincp options. (Hey - look on the bright side - you dont have to stumple around looking for the settings!)

cosmic - In this version your ads can not be prefixed with http://

m0de - hmmm. Edit the GAB_admin.php page and look for <? after the javascript and change to <?php to see if that helps.
The package problem is a known issue - it isnt implimented yet.

Extremetim - It will most likely make the final

Thanks guys - Ill be picking this back up in a couple of days to complete it. If you are not offay with coding - I would wait a few for a final release.

THanks :)

uReside.com 05-01-2005 02:21 AM

Whats the ETA on a final release? (subscribing)

007 05-01-2005 04:04 AM

Hopefully any day now! :) This is going to be the best banner hack so far. I can't wait!

uReside.com 05-01-2005 04:06 AM

yea, its everything i need, but i dont trust myself to install it, plus i want users to be able to advertise on their own on my site aswell, full automated.

Lionel 05-01-2005 04:10 AM

If you have diificulties displaying it with advancedCMS, try putting
GAB_ad1
Gab_ad2
in the portal global output section

How do you make it rotate more than 2 banners? I have 5 of them, it is pulling them all, but rotating only 2 at the time.

The Geek 05-01-2005 07:52 AM

Final should be within the next week - however this will not include the user integration side of things (see my post here and here for details of what I am now doing).

In a nutshell - a lot of the work has already been done - but I am going to decouple this from the user integration side of things to make it stand alone then release a package that snaps GAB and GAL together into a 'package' system where users can buy combinations of banners and/or ads and track their stats.

Once I get GAL 4 done Ill complete GAB rather quickly. THen I should be able to complete the snap together pretty fast too.

Watson 05-01-2005 08:05 AM

I will need to uninstall the hack I already use for banners from me site :)

Aww, that didn't fix it, no worries!

One question though:
Geek, man... is this an issue that I'm just having? And if so, why?
Everyone else seems to be running fine!
Is it because they started with your initial beta and then modified it? I started with your 2.01 version.

I love your installers because they keep the modifications and errors to a minimum. That's why I've homed in on GAB.

I'll wait 'til you're finished and not bother you about this.

you should be able to set 'no of ads:' to 2 and number of banners in rotating'... to 2 - however I am not sure if its doing it as I jsut tr'ied it on a test version.

Lionel 05-02-2005 07:11 AM

It's not doing it.
