hi, is there anyway to have the articles arranged in alphabetical order rather in the order they are posted?

thanks!

Bush Music 06-22-2004 03:06 AM

Hi,
Is there a way form the article's that I upload into the article hack to be read by RSS news readers? In other words I would like for people to be able to pull down my daily articles as RSS. If this is possable, please share with me how to set up the hack so that this can happen.
Thanks in advance!

I only have one small problem. When I designate a article to be featured, this is what happens to the preview-

This (^) only happens to the second paragraph. Any thoughts?

Nevermind I figured it out. You can't have any text formatting or the codes will show up.

mixylplik3 06-24-2004 02:38 AM

FANTASTIC. Thank you!

PolishPanda 06-24-2004 09:47 AM

I got my problem fixed.

I have a question though. Could I change article.php to articles.php and still have the hack run correctly?

ethics 06-24-2004 03:59 PM

Anyone hacked it to be workable with the uttstore hack? I'd like to reward people who write articles.

Acido 06-24-2004 06:37 PM

Please Jhon, can you tell me how i can change the Character limit for the caption of the thumbnails?

Thanx in advance ;)

Mijae 06-24-2004 07:29 PM

Anyone?

MikeeX 06-27-2004 03:27 PM

This may be a stupid question. But I don't have the option to add articles. And yes, I have updated the usergroups ;)

Thanks for any suggestions.

MikeeX 06-27-2004 03:50 PM

I figured it out thanks. Didn't work for the template I was using, upload the images to my themedir. All fixed up.

zerinS4 06-27-2004 05:39 PM

Okay I must be an idiot because I've followed the instructions to the T and this is what I get when I go into my AdminCP...

If I click on Save, it redirects to a page that says "Nothing To Do"

Does HTML in articles work for anyone else? I have allow HTML checked as yes but all it does is print out the code on the page.

http://www.rcflying.net/forums/article.php?a=5

It appears to take all my HTML hyperlinks and adds another set of <A HREF> links around them.

Code:

<CENTER><TABLE><TR> <TD><A HREF="<a href="http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/kit1.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/kit1.jpg</a>" TARGET="_blank"><IMG SRC="<a href="http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/sm_kit1.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/sm_kit1.jpg</a>" HEIGHT="100" WIDTH="125"></A></TD> <TD><A HREF="<a href="http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/kit2.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/kit2.jpg</a>" TARGET="_blank"><IMG SRC="<a href="http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/sm_kit2.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/sm_kit2.jpg</a>" HEIGHT="99" WIDTH="150"></A></TD> <TD><A HREF="<a href="http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/kit3.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/kit3.jpg</a>" TARGET="_blank"><IMG SRC="<a href="http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/sm_kit3.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.rcflying.net/caextra27/sm_kit3.jpg</a>" HEIGHT="99" WIDTH="150"></A></TD></TR></TABLE></CENTER><br />

WreckRman2 06-28-2004 10:38 AM

OK, if I remove the http://www.rcflying.net from my links it works fine... so this means you can't link to stuff outside your own domain I guess.

Rids 06-28-2004 12:34 PM

Good addition to vB but I need to display images within the text and not at the end of the document so I guess my search goes on ... and on ... and on ... :D

Well, you can use the [img] code to embed an image in the usual fashion, but I'm guessing you're looking for a way to display saved images rather than hosted ones?

Rids 06-28-2004 03:56 PM

Thats right, because of the nature of the documents (graphics tutorials) they will need multiple in-line graphics and I can't take the chance of the images disappearing off other people's web-space.

I see this being more useful for articles and such where it's not about discussions but about focusing on one initial post (the article). At the same time you can allow for commenting and rating of the articles, but if they want to actually discuss it they'd have to do it elsehwere. At least that's how I see it.

I need something like this too, or at least the normal "unregistered" options, where I can type in a name/email address for a submitter rather than it strictly being posted as "Unregistered".

I'm convering old stuff from my site to try to integrate everything with vb, and I have 4 years worth of articles posted by various people and right now there is no way to post those without them either showing up as written by me or Unregistered.

zerinS4 06-29-2004 03:49 PM

Any ideas?? Dying to get this working right...

JustAskJulie 06-29-2004 06:14 PM

Moderation doesn't appear to be working.

I have it turned on and initially all it did was show a little icon next to the title of the article signifying that it needed to be moderated (but even unregistered could see it). Now it doesn't even show the icon and registered or not you can view the article.

JustAskJulie 06-29-2004 06:16 PM

Nevermind. Evidently since I was posting them from an admin account they wouldn't get moderated.... at least that would make sense.

nm :) I found the problem, i over written the includes init.php file by mistake and forgot to re-add the changes for this hack to that file.

bgtking 06-30-2004 07:54 PM

Thanks for another great hack John!

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could do a mod for this system that would add a 'Favorite Article' button, similar to the install function on these forums. And, if possible, have your favorites displayed in your profile. if anyone could do this, that would be great.

JustAskJulie 06-30-2004 09:17 PM

Can someone tell me how I would move the "Featured Article" into a specific category rather than having it on the Category List page?

Holidazed 06-30-2004 09:39 PM

This hack is absolutely awesome John.

Is there a way we can have the Featured article pick a random article to feature?

m0h2 07-01-2004 01:55 PM

I had some problems while installing it so I uninstalled it to do a new fresh installation but when I tried to reinstall it I got an error, it looks like the installation script can't be used after uninstalling it!

I tried to follow the steps in the installation script (doing it manual) but I get the no permission error when I try to access the article page (I also did follow all the other instructions)

Any ideas?

Along these lines, it would be nice to be able to remove a featured article so nothing is there. Once it's set, it's locked in.

Ig@r 07-02-2004 06:15 PM

Install, works great. Thanks a lot

It would be nice to have a possibility to post huge articles and books with many pages.

Delirion 07-03-2004 08:43 PM

Installed it, works great :)

I really just wish I could move some of the threads from the original forum over into the Articles section, making them Articles instead of threads. That'd save me the work of having to move over 500 or so posts.... oh well.... there isn't anything I can do about that, is there?

m0h2 07-03-2004 08:59 PM

I was able to get it installed at last!
Its a great hack! thanx :)

Bush Music 07-06-2004 07:33 PM

Another install. Works great! Thanks for a super hack.

Raimund 07-06-2004 09:09 PM

Same here. I uploaded the new files from 3.0.3 folder so obviously, the hack (article) disappeared. Did you reapply the modifications to the new file for 3.0.3?

Acido 07-07-2004 05:33 AM

Permisions settings are not taken effect on "unregistered" usergroup. I set diferent permisions on this usergroup, and no one had effect.

Help Please.

Deska 07-07-2004 11:04 AM

Any idea for Article with multiple attachment?
Thank's....

i got this fixed, since the uninstaller is useless and i don't wanted that my articles are gone, i looked at the templates, the ARTICLES template was outside of the articles group and some templates were missing, really strange, so i used the installer and installed the templates only, that did it for me.

SmasherMaster 07-07-2004 02:17 PM

Oh God, I've Been Waiting For This For Enternity! Thank You! :D :D :D :D

EDIT: Installed and worked perfectly. Great hack John! *hits install*

SmasherMaster 07-07-2004 05:01 PM

Hmm, John, you didn't put anything about file edits in functions_online.php. ;) Here's the necessary <sp?> file edits so articles will work in 'who's online'

Find in Includes/Functions_online.php:
PHP Code:

        case 'bugs':

$userinfo['action'] = construct_phrase($vbphrase['viewing_x'], 'Bugs'); // Don't report 'bugs' as needing to be translated please :p

break;

Add BELOW:
PHP Code:

        case 'article':

$userinfo['action'] = 'Viewing the <a href=\"article.php?$session[sessionurl]\">Articles</a>';
            break;

Find:
PHP Code:

    case 'bugs.php':

$userinfo['activity'] = 'bugs';
        break;

Add BELOW:
PHP Code:

    case 'article.php':

$userinfo['activity'] = 'article';
        break;

Save & Upload Includes/Functions_online.php

All done. :)
