What about cookies? I have the cookie domain for my main forum set in the AdminCP. What changes, if any, would need to be made? Will it still work?

I think it is unrelated as now it started working. For whatever reason it is intermittent, just wanted to check to see if maybe I wasn't the only one.

Just wondering, how are you guys resolving the site name? In google my second domain shows up as the same name and description as the first domain. Is there any way to make it unique?

Same Question here.

merk_aus 12-15-2010 10:03 AM

Damn I installed it (finally upgraded from 3.8 where I had this working properly) however no matter what domain name you enter it just redirects to the main domain - any ideas on how I could fix it?

List your settings and if you are using the suite.

Sticky,
Sorry about that it was like midnight my time when I posted and many things were going through my head.

I am using the vBulletin Publishing Suite 4.1 - I have the CMS turned off at the moment as it is uneeded however have the forum and blogs turned on.

Below are the settings I have - keep in mind that I am currently not using the Facebook stuff however do plan on maybe using them in the near future I am just trying to do one thing at a time otherwise it's going to be a mess.

Code:

[forums.sportainment.com.au]
bbtitle=Sports Force Interactive
bburl=forums.sportainment.com.au
homeurl=forums.sportainment.com.au
catids=1,49,3
styleid=10
cookiedomain=.sportainment.com.au
facebookappid=222222222
facebooksecret=222222222

[paranormalboard.com]
bbtitle=Paranormal Board
bburl=paranormalboard.com
homeurl=paranormalboard.com
catids=1,5,3
styleid=9
cookiedomain=.paranormalboard.com
facebookappid=222225552
facebooksecret=222225522

[sports-force.co.nz]
bbtitle=Sports Force
bburl=forums.sports-force.co.nz
homeurl=sports-force.co.nz
catids=1,49,3
styleid=10
cookiedomain=.sports-force.co.nz
facebookappid=222222255
facebooksecret=255222222

[webmasters-resort.com]
bbtitle=Webmasters Resort
bburl=webmasters-resort.com
homeurl=webmasters-resort.com
catids=1,15,29,3
styleid=8
cookiedomain=.webmasters-resort.com
facebookappid=222222288
facebooksecret=222222282

Please let me know if you are able to help (or anyone for that matter) to try and get this working how it should.

I do realise that there are two Sports Force sites listed above - the reason for that is Sports Force is our more popular site and so last night when I couldn't get it to work I opted to reopen that site as our main site and attempt to fix everything else up.

Thank you to all for everyone who is able to help.

EDIT: Never mind, ignore my original response, I see what is going on.... the "meta name" & "meta description" are not being updated uniquely per domain. I'll experiment a bit tonight to see what I can do.

OK, here's the solution...

For those interested, the fix would be to modify your "** Load Config **" plugin and look for...
Code:

case 'bbtitle':
    if($ib_in_matching_host) {
          $vbulletin->options['bbtitle'] = $ib_the_spec[1];
    }
    break;

... and then below it add:
Code:

case 'keywords':
    if($ib_in_matching_host) {
          $vbulletin->options['keywords'] = $ib_the_spec[1];
    }
    break;
case 'description':
    if($ib_in_matching_host) {
          $vbulletin->options['description'] = $ib_the_spec[1];
    }
    break;

Then in your Cerberus settings (ACP => Options => vBCerberus => Cerberus Definition) add two new entries for 'keywords' & 'description' as needed. :)

Going by my example URLs I posted earlier, "CinVin.com" is my 'real' site while "LowerPottsgrove.com" is my virtual site I am running off of it using Cerberus. With that in mind, below is my current definition entry after adding the settings for 'hometitle' (see earlier in the thread), 'keywords', and 'description' as described in this post.

Remember, for your main 'real' site you only need to add the definitions for what you are overriding, you don't have to duplicate the settings that are normally in your ACP already. ;)

Code:

[cinvin.com]
catids=50,202,144

[lowerpottsgrove.com]
bbtitle=Lower Pottsgrove
bburl=www.LowerPottsgrove.com
homeurl=www.LowerPottsgrove.com
catids=513,529
styleid=66
cookiedomain=.lowerpottsgrove.com
facebookappid={use your own!}
facebooksecret={use your own!}
hometitle=Lower Pottsgrove
keywords=lower pottsgrove, pottstown, spring city, royersford, birdsboro
description=Online community for Lower Pottsgrove, PA!

Are you sure your domains are properly parked with your web host? (and not on domain forwarding)

I think VB needs to start paying you. You are an amazing resource on this board, seriously, your help with this product is better than most supported products.

You have my gratitude and I am in your debt.

Thanks for attempting to help
My forums are at: http://forums.sportainment.com.au - where this is installed - I have attempted to Park the Domain which then points to our main site (WIP) at http://www.sportainment.com.au - then attempted to redirect that to the board however doing that only shows the sportainment forums.

I have attempted with an addon domain however it doesn't work.

Just for information purposes (incase someone else wants to know) I am using cPanel.

EDIT: OKAY I thought I would update everyone. I finally got this installed. I installed a new one on my websites main domain http://sportainment.com.au and once doing that I have turned around and somehow got everything else to work.

My only issue now is (and I will be reviewing this entire thread to see if it is posted here) I am trying to make it that the CMS is only available on domain1.com and so if members type in domain2.com, domain3.com they get taken straight to the forums for that site.

If anyone can help would really be appreciated - in the mean time thank you to all the help from everyone in here so far.

I'm not following entirely... you're trying to get "forums.sportainment.com.au" and "www.sportainment.com.au" to show different content or the same content?

Sorry to begin with sportainment.com.au was going to be a WP blog, with forums.sportainment.com.au as our forums - however I just posted while you were typing (I guess) I have altered everything and am now just trying to get it to a point where the CMS only displays when people type in the domain name sportainment.com.au and not when people type in any other domain.

There might be a better way but you could use the conditional I have in post #193 and put code in the header of the CMS template to forward people to another page depending on which domain they are using.

You can redirect with Javascript then...

Code:

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
window.location = "http://www.domain2.com/forums/forum.php"
//-->
</script>

How do I use this conditional or where do I put it? Forwarding to another page depending on the domain would solve all my issues as I would just forward them to the section ID that sorts the CMS for the domain.

thanks to everyone for their assistance - things are working alright now. If they type in domain2.com it loads the maindomain.com stuff however if they type in domain2.com/forums.php it works how it should - kinda weird but it's liveable.

I will make a post to update their bookmarks or else i will smash them lol

    • SOLUTION: Add 'cms_default_page' to the list of options getting parsed. (Added as of this post in response to a PM request).

Sticky, what this means for you is to add this line...
Code:

cms_default_page=644
... to your second site. The end result should be that when somebody visits SiteA.com/content.php they will see the normal CMS page but when they visit SiteB.com/content.php then they will see the page for section 644.

Please let me know if that is what you hand in mind, thanks. :)

so just install this product like you would a normal product? (Sorry for sounding like a newbie I swear I'm not however just don't want to break anything)

Once again thanks for your work much appreciated.

Like normal but "Allow overwrite" set to "YES"

Basically you're replacing the original version with this one. Your settings will be saved, you won't have to re-enter them.

merk_aus 12-16-2010 02:39 AM

Cheers - I just saw an error with this modification.

I have attempted to install a couple eg: Credits/ vBookie
if you go to http://sportainment.com.au/vbookie.php it appears however if you go to http://forums.sports-force.co.nz/vbookie.php (an addon domain) it comes up with a 404 Error.

The trick is going to be figuring how where you have the different URLs going (and what method are you using to redirect the, the javascript Joe posted or something else?). Do the two URLs physically map to the same folder?

Thanks KW802 I will attempt to answer.
I currently have a dedicated server in which www.sportainment.com.au is the main account linked to it.

To get this modification to work - I put all the details I posted earlier in the options part but to get the domains to work I...

Created Addon Domains for:
paranormalboard.com - which directs to public_html/
webmasters-resort.com - which directs to public_html/
sports-force.co.nz - which directions to public_html/sportsf - and from that site just a directed link to forums.sports-force.net.au/forums.php

I am sorry if that is confusing however wanted to put exactly what I had/have done to get this to work.

This does work with 4.1 but remember this mod status is officially an Alpha version- you should be very weary of using it on a live forum at this stage. There is no official support though there are for now people trying to help- that could change at any time.

Dude, come on, you have to put in some effort on your own. The guy is doing great stuff for everyone, he isn't a slave.

It really isn't all that hard to get working, just takes some work.

Agreed - Thank you to all helping with me sorting it out - I have had to disable it for the time due to some errors but will be working hard behind the scenes to fix it.

Things like random members getting no permission warning, and the fact I couldn't get things like vBookie etc installed properly - not major show stoppers but something I am working on to rectify behind the scenes.

I agree 100%. I have try so much since day one this modification was release as you can see I been posting here since day one. lol
But for some reason I have try everything and still have the same issue you had before with the style breakdown.
Is not asking much just a hand. :(:o

I will try and see how far I go

May be I don?t get it in total, so I hope someone can help me out:

Is this mod sharing the same database, same tables and same fields across the different domains, too? That would be exactly what I?m desperatly searching for. Haven?t read the whole thread by now. Damn to long ;D

A short yes/no/maybe would be appreciated ;)
