Can I ask which StyleVar or Template governs the message box that appears asking you to register (the takeover). My current style renders the text and colours quite wrongly so I probably need to adjust them.

Karushica 07-21-2010 07:14 AM

Does this module influence search engine ?

ArchAngelz 07-21-2010 07:25 AM

Did you read the installation instructions?

Take over uses the classes thread_controls lgvcontrol although you can edit the template limited_guest_viewing as you see fit.

ArchAngelz 07-22-2010 03:32 PM

Thanks for the input!

Unfortunately, I'm no coder, would you be able to guide me as to how I can change at least the text colour and the bar background colour? Right now on my style, somehow its set as gray text on gray background, resulting in the text being invisible :P

Strange...

It works nice in FF , but not in IE8. The message is not displayed in IE8

Anyone knows Why?

Ty in advance

nakedanvil 07-23-2010 03:51 AM

I have Photopost vBGallery installed and a part of that needs to always be public. How will your mod affect (or not) that? Or does this only affect forums? What about CMS?

edit: Ah, I see the CMS addressed above.

And after reading the entire thread, all of my questions have been addressed. Guess I'll have to try this one. Thanks!

Akuma2000 08-01-2010 09:09 AM

We got a problem with Vbulletin version 4.0.5.

It doesn't show the warning message after 7 views.
We set the block page after 15 views, this does show.

What can we do to fix the warning message to show?

Thanks in advance.

ArchAngelz 08-05-2010 02:04 AM

I was hoping someone could teach me how to edit the templates to show change the text colour and background; right now the text can't be seen (I'm using VB.com's Bold Grey style)!

There's only one XML file outside of the upload files.

Budget101 08-13-2010 01:33 AM

After setting this mod it returns a blank page once a guest has reached his/her limit.

Mark have you installed the template variable from the instructions?

What does this mean? Sorry - I've installed the xml, but what else should be installed (and where do I install it?).

And from the instructions below-- where is my "includes/cron folder"?

Step 2) Upload the attached cron file (optional)

Upload the attached file lgvdb.php to your includes/cron folder. This file is used to clear out old records for users with database enabling turned on.

Thanks. J

There is a variable to add to your templates, it's explained in the install guide.

Tried it in several versions of vb & on several browsers
In 4.0.2 pl4
Enable Guest Viewing: Yes
Database Logging: No
Enable Register Takeover message: Yes, 5
Register Block: Yes
Register Block Count: 15
Excluded forum Ids: (blank) also tried it with 2 specific forums
Clear IP: doesn't matter, not using it.

in vb4.0.3 & vb4.0.5 & vb4.0.6
Enable Guest Viewing: Yes
Database Logging: No
Enable Register Takeover message: Yes, 5
Register Block: Yes
Register Block Count: 20
Excluded forum Ids: (blank)
Clear IP: doesn't matter, not using it.

In IE it took 47 pages before it showed the "Block" page and when I clicked on another page, it returned a blank page.

In FF it took 13 pages to show the Register takeover message, then returned Blank pages following that page.

Code is not variable, it executes or it doesn't... Either their is a conflict or the cookie isn't getting set to track it. How fast are you refreshing? What other mods do you use? Are you watching the lgv cookie increase as you reload?

Is this mode also good for 4.0.3? I really like this mod

coloradomoms 08-30-2010 04:37 PM

is it possible to use this as a registered user, anti-lurking tool? As in, if they are logged in, but have zero posts, they can only view x amount of threads before posting an intro?

You probably forgot to refresh your AdminCP after the import. Or you're looking in the wrong place. It's in Settings>Options>Limited Guest Viewing System.

Thanks, I'm going to try it out. I have limited xml knowledge, so lets pray I don't crash my site in the process! LOL

I dunno. Forced posting? Why should they register if you're going to force them to un-lurk whether they do or not? If you're taking a vote, I vote no.

Instead, you may want to consider one of the add-ons that force them to read a thread. Not the same thing, I know.

Thanks TED!! Your MOD is working fine in Vbulletin 4.0.6. But the problem is it is working only for forum threads. I have done some tweak (here) to make it work for blog section. But still struggling to enable it for CMS section. Please help!!

Love to see this working with vBulletin CMS articles as well ...

Would be willing to share in any cost to bring that functionality to this excellent mod... :)

Badger

Thanks! Installed!

Mopar1973Man 09-16-2010 08:58 PM

Spiders and Bots is a serious worry for me and I'm sitting on the fence about this mod... I really would like to install this but I get alot of my traffic from search engines like Google.

So what can anyone tell me about this mod is it safe? or am I just worrying too much?

----- Update

I desided to give it a try and see if the mod works... Well I viewed over 10 post with second computer run IE8, FF, and Opera and still no message...

8thos 09-23-2010 04:48 AM

This mod doesn't work for guests viewing your archives.

Correct. But then, if a lurker is really determined to view your forum, they can just delete their cookie. This isn't a security mod, it's just meant to encourage people to register for free.

This is very important modification.
i installed this modification for about 6 months before. It increases the registration but i think the alert page must have the registration form like the attachment which is on facebook homepage. it forces the registration.
