Why is this only available in America? Why not release it worldwide? I am in Australia... and very disappointed.

There are 2 problems with your licensing / business model model:

1) You own the customer. I own my users and don't want them to launch your client and have my forum appear right next to my competitor's, with god knows what advertising appearing in between. Maybe there isn't any advertising (now), but that's not the point. My issue is I have no control as to what appears until my forum's content is accessed.

2) Charging for the client. Virtually none of my 75K users will pay to install this app. If it were free, you have a snowball chance in hell of people installing, provided I were to sign up on my end. Earlier in this thread, you said, charge forum owners. Good idea, right ? Of course, when considering how you've positioned the product, it doesn't make sense to put any obstacle in the signing up new content since you are looking to create a portal application. So it's in your interest to have as many forums as possible so as to make it more attractive (install our app, your portal to 1 zillion forums, etc...).

The app looks interesting and well done, kudos for that, but business wise, I just can't be motivated to help Tapatalk acquire new customers at the expense of my users.

One hint - if you want to have any chanceof attracting serious forum owners, make sure you integrate some means in your solution of preserving third party content placement in the site (advertising), else my supporters may feel they have no reason to keep paying for the service that keeps my forum alive.

No you don't. You just have the illusion of 'owning' your users. If you're THAT paranoid about your users leaving you, then you might want to consider packing it in. Google puts your forum right next to every other forum, as does every search engine.

This is the best model, and the one that makes the most sense. The developer has to make money from the app, and there's no question that this app was definitely needed. With the licensing model of Apple, the dev had to front money to take care of this before it was even out the door.

Do you even get what this is? This is a 'mobile' client, not a full client. Of COURSE people aren't going to switch to this directly. This is an alternative to using a real client. The features of this client are dumbed down so much that you don't want to use it constantly, but it provides enough functionality that you CAN keep in touch with the forum. At last check, they WERE planning an alternative advertisement structure, but you can NOT put regular full sized ads on a mobile platform, it'll screw it ALL up.

Get over yourself, stop complaining, and start treating people with respect man, your post was comical at best. This app is very well needed, and whiners like yourself should either develop their own app (yeah right) or just take their whining somewhere else.

Well, not anymore!! The Tapatalk world-wide release is just approved by Apple and is ready to all countries!

Try it at http://itunes.com/app/tapatalk

Which release? The beta, or the real release ? ;)

AndyCooper 07-29-2009 09:37 AM

Working in the UK :D Great app for a quick checks of my forum!

Tom Finley 07-29-2009 11:30 PM

I wish I could post my questions at the TapaTalk forum but I can't seem to get on. Server trouble again?

1. I've verified the installation for my forum (CLAMtalk.org).

2. I've purchased and installed the app. It works, I can get onto other member sites fine (very cool, btw)

3. CLAMtalk logo and info shows up under the "Education" category as expected. Tap it and the message is "This function is currently unavailable..." If I click the "View in Safari" button, the site comes up (un-Tapafied). The Login and Register buttons next to the View button do nothing.

Bear in mind I'm new to iPhones and apps. I guess my questions for TapaTalk are--does this take awhile to start working? Is the forum down? If not, why can't I log in or get a new password (that doesn't work either)? Or are registrations moderated? (If so, you should say so.) And of course my BIG Q:

How do I make it work?

I've been around long enough to know that this will all be worked out and I'll be one happy customer, so thanks very much, in advance.

Tom

FIXED! The problem is a conflict with vBadvanced, I think. The solution is to replace "index" in define ('THIS_ SCRIPT', 'index') with "mobiquo" in three php files: get_forums, get_online_users, and get_board_stat.

Glad to see it working - we are putting this fix into next release also as more than few forums are having the same issue.

I understand his point, actually. I'll tell you why this app doesn't really phase me.

(1) I need a mobile version of my site. While this app is cool and wish them success, I need to solve that issue. Once it's done, I and my users don't really need this app.

(2) Many might not pay for a generic app that may or may not have all the functions of a vb forum, I don't know. For people who use VB often, if it makes life much easier, then it's a good app to buy. But many might not feel it's worth it so I'm still left developing a mobile/iphone version for my site.

So in conclusion, I'm not going to force or convince (as an affiliate) my users to buy an application for $3 in order to use an iPhone compatible version, especially without getting a piece of that revenue either. I understand the developer's point of view but it's unfortunately the way it is. Apple and it's iTunes store and their grabbing every penny doesn't help with the model either.

Nice app still and good work. Maybe in time, we'll see. Kudos to the developers on great work and a great idea.

OK Where are the install directions

bada_bing,

You can get started at http://www.tapatalk.com/directory

Enjoy!

Tilly 08-09-2009 12:13 PM

Should be something to allow to upload picture to threads, like an attachment only from your Iphone camera roll

yellowpeter 08-11-2009 04:32 AM

Yes indeed - this is a high pirority feature that we are working on now.

vbreal 08-11-2009 03:21 PM

thanks again for the great app. my users are really digging it and look fwd to future updates.

yellowpeter 08-12-2009 12:52 AM

Thanks vbreal.

Yesterday we have just released an updated version on Apple app store with Spanish and German support included, plus few minor bug fixes. Make sure your member go grab the latest one.

We have been slowed down the development a bit to enjoy the rest of summer - and expect to get full stream again for the long-overdue features such as Pagination, Image Upload and Push Notification.

Plus we received some crash report and will look into it ASAP.

sross 08-12-2009 01:55 AM

installed, running, and i can confirm -it's awesome!- :)

Alfa1 08-12-2009 02:47 PM

*Tagged for future use.

I will wait until you support more platforms then just iPhone. Do you have plans for Windows Mobile?

yellowpeter 08-14-2009 12:24 AM

Android is in active development - our goal is to cover as much smartphone as possible but need to balance our time and resource.

If everyone sits and wait now we will never get there :)

Is there any update on the ability to attach and, or include photos as post attachments to VBulletin posts via Tapatalk?

ibeteck 08-17-2009 01:04 PM

Is there any way of it not revealing the hidden section of my forum. I went in there and it showed all of the hidden threads.

Kronan 08-17-2009 04:10 PM

It's not letting me reply to any threads or posts, any idea how to fix this?

mikeo9043 08-17-2009 04:54 PM

is the Board Stats part only apart of the newest iPhone version, not the one that's released right now?

Hi pjcnlv,

We have started looking into it and what I can share is that this feature should be avilable in October time-frame, after we got the Push notification going in September.

Hi ibeteck,

Do you mean you set a particular forum as private forum and it still shown? It shouldn't as it inherit all the vb security settings.

PM me or you can post the issue at
http://www.tapatalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=13
where we track all the bugs and issues.

Alternatively if you believe it is not a bug but still want to hide a specific sub-fourms from iPhone, you can follow this step:

Hi mike,

Yes you are right that is part of the Beta version that we are currently fine-tuning. It will allow you to see how many users are online and number of total posts and so on. :)

Spinball 08-21-2009 09:18 PM

Working nicely. Like it. Good job.

Trana 08-23-2009 03:40 AM

Any possibility of you licensing this as a standalone app for specific forums? I have one forum where I would like to create a dedicated app for the app store.

Please let me know.

While not much immediate update going on from the iPhone app side, we are pleased to announce the Analytics support of Tapatalk where forum owners can check how well the Tapatalk do in their forum.

The idea is to provide similar dataset as Pinch Media, Admob or any other mobile app analytic provider - and as a forum owner you can check how many people is using the Tapatalk to access your forum, and the time spent on it, etc.

Attached is a sample screenshot of interface you get to see once you login to Forum Owner Area (http://www.tapatalk.com/directory).

My forum is closed to a specific corporation. I would like our users to have this feature, but do not want our forum listed under Tapatalk's Forum Network. Is this possible?

You can list the forum as "search only" where it won't show up unless it's looked for in that way.

Snug 09-01-2009 12:05 AM
